So I have a Gateway FX 6860. Great laptop, runs all the games I wanna play very smoothly. Had it since April of 08 and so just recently my GPU died out on me. So I did some reading and saw people have had success with putting the motherboard in the oven. Since I was having the exact same symptoms as those people I decided to do it for myself and now its working again.
So here's what I'm trying to decide on doing: either sell the laptop (I was hoping I could get maybe 500 at least for it?), and buy a new one (was looking at the Samsung QX410). Or simply save some money and just upgrade the CPU. Reason I'm looking at the QX410 is cuz I've reasd positive reviews about it and got to play around with it for a bit at Best Buy. It really looks like a nice laptop and as for gaming I'm not necessarily looking to run Crysis 2 at max specs ya know? Maybe run Guild Wars 2 smooth and I was looking to get back into EVE Online.
Also, what type of CPU can I upgrade to? Would the stock motherboard be able to support a good Core i5/i7?
Thanks

You're not going to get $500 for a baked laptop, and upgrading something that is going to die again is a horrible waste of money. Start saving your money for a new laptop.
