earlier today i noticed that all but the p173 series gateway notebooks are missing from the website -- discontinued, i presume.
so i was wondering, what laptop will replace the 7811, and will it be available by black friday (nov. 27)?

i'd take an educated guess, hmm gateway p-8822fx?
we may not know the exact configuration with the next fx,
but the naming sequence likely will start as 88xx .

    Whys that?

6831 - 6860 - 7811... theres no particular order to those numbers. The only thing they really have in common is the x8xx number, but so have the 6850 - 6852 - 6864 etc, etc, etc

I honestly think gateway just makes them up with out rhyme or reason.

Gateway asked their employees to choose a four digit number and they randomly pick it out of a hat and that'll be their next model.

hmm.. when was the 6831 officially released? and the 6860, and the 7811? I'm just pulling something out my a$$, but the 7811 was august 11th right? *811.. next series.. [series]month(release date). Series 7, month august, day 11th? I have no clue where this is going.. but I need a smoke.

hope you're done with homework..cause i haven't done any research. Seeing as you're still attempting to broaden your horizons with education an' all.. I suggest you write an 84 page report on the topic at hand. Or, just explain it in 3 sentences or less. your choice.

While 6(8-31) and 7(8-11) could both "kinda" fit your mold... there is no such thing as a 60th day to any month so the 6860 deffinatly doesnt work with that.

More than likely its just the stock number in their systems. We do it at my work all the time. We generate numbers for things that already have numbers just to make us feel better about it. And more often than not the numbers make little to no sense

    7811 was released either 8-14 or 8-17.

    7811
= 78 the number of Best Buy locations E-wrecked visited while attempting to exchange laptops.
= 11 the number of actual laptops E-wrecked returned.

I wonder if there were enough 7811's produced to see a refurb offering. Then I wonder if we would dare buy one. Could be a good deal.

Back then, there were only 68 locations to go to buy this laptop and it took someone 80 notebooks to get a good one?
