out of curiosity why are you getting new RAM when the laptop already came with 3gb which is the max Vista 32bit can read? I'm just asking so I know whether there's a reason I should get new RAM too =]

I went from the stock 3gb ram, windows score 4.5, down to 1.5gb (because my stock 2gb stick was fcked when i got it) and the score stayed at 4.5, which shows how crappy the scoring really is. But to answer your question about the CL4 g-skill ram, I bought that exact pair last week and guess what...my WEI scored changed none still 4.5

Edit: Remember for whatever reason the windows ram score is tied to processor speed so your score wouldn't drop to 4.5, more than likely it would stay exactly where it is right now. And as far as a speed increase I have no hard numbers but if I know its technically faster then it feels faster....right :)

Yes, probably because of our slow T5450 CPU. :(
p.s.: Do I see right that you only have 32bit Vista?:O

yeah, i didn't think it would... you need to upgrade the cpu, then it will jump to 5.0-5.2

Yeah I realize that all my ram isn't being used but the day I found out my stock 2gb stick was bad I immediately ordered that 4gb from Newegg and haven't gotten around to switching to 64-bit. I think that if I'm gonna go through the hassle of installing an OS again I'm gonna install XP and look to gain more performance than I ever could just switching from 32 to 64 Vista and utilizing that extra 0.5gb of ram.

iam going to use 64 bit probably soon which is amazing with 4gigs of ram.
i might update the cpu over the summer
how much and what processor can i buy?
i want to spend less then 300
