whiich of the two has better performance for crysis? also, whre do i get the xfastest mod? how to download and install too? i know how to install the laptoptogo mod drivers but not xfastest
-

This is my benchmark using the 180 driver..

Here's xfastest 177.85..

Both were ran this evening..nothing changed but the video drivers. Im trying to find a newer Xfastest driver with similar performance gains.
EDIT: link to 177.85 xfastest http://www.xfastest.com/viewthread.php?tid=12852&extra=page=1 -

i dont get it... performance gains? the 180 driver isn't even as good as the 177.85xfastest
 -

What were the video clocks when you benched? Are those xfastest drivers better than new 178.24 ones?
 -

how to install xfastest drivers?
should i uninstall my current drviver? -

Yes, always uninstall and follow the guidelines given here ...somewhere.
Basically as I did it yesterday and I love the xfastest 177.85:
uninstall
reboot in safe mode
run drivecleaner
reboot normally
install driver 177.85
reboot normally
smile & enjoy

when i downloaded the xfastest driver and installed it, it said i had to restart the computer and i chose the option to to that automatically. After the restart, the new driver was already installed without me removing the old driver. is this going to cause problems or will it be fine? sorry I'm very new at this.
 -

yes, they are also better than 178.24.. I ran similar scores to the 180 driver as I did with the 178 driver.
 -

E, how are you keeping your GPU so cool???
 -

 you mean here? http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=265740
 -

How are you guys getting 3dmark06 to score into the 9500's +
Mine only scores 8600-8700? I have ran it like 5 times. -

Umm.. nothing special going on. I use the targus laptop stand to elevate the whole comp off the table, and it allows air to flow freely underneath. I did apply the copper mod yesterday to my Northbridge side of the heatsink. It seems to have lowered my idle TZS0 about 5c. Here's some temps just browsin the internet.
Oh, and the x9100 may have something to do with it.. Since the P8400 likely bottlenecks the 9800m just a bit, it may cause the GPU to do more work to keep up. Mind you, I've got a 6MB Cache, not 3MB.. and 3.06 GHz, so it definately relieves the GPU of a little work.
The above pic for the Xfastest Driver has my idle temps before the heatsink mod..
Idle temps after Copper Mod:

And I think someone asked about my clocks.. These benchmarks posted are using the stock 600/799/1500 clocks. I shoulda posted a CPU-Z shot..but keep in mind the x9100 CPU makes a big difference with the 3dmark results. -

Ok, this is maybe OT in this thread, but my HDD is getting quite hot. Idle 55 and when gaming over 60C (140F). Seagate has written operational temperature is 60. My HDD is doing over that
 How bad that is?

And have somebody taken apart their laptop to see what kind of cooling and thermal paste 9800M GTS has? Maybe better paste and temps will lower? -

My GPU is at 67C when gaming but my HDD is 41C
 -

they use the same stuff that is applied to the CPU. Actually, Gateway did a great job at applying thermal paste to the GPU. When I cracked it open, I noticed they did the stripe and twist method..or so it appears. Stripe AS5 across at an angle, then applied heatsink and turned 180 degrees. Or, so it appeared.. Either way, it was a nice thin layer with a couple very minimal gaps, or air pockets.
And the seagate loves to run hot
I snagged the HDD out of the extra 7811 here, and am running 2 seagates now.. Im thinkin bout goin back to the WDs..they really never got above 50ish.

Ok, good to here that i am not the only one frying my HDD's

About those drivers, installed those xfastest 177.85 to XP x64, and the Mark06 scores were hidous
 Over 1000p lower when OC.

But under Vista x64 and Vantage run, my score improved over 200p in stock settings.
Did a little benching and this is what i got:
PhysX ENANBLED. P 5373
http://img90.imageshack.us/my.php?image=p5373physxenabledocqz6.jpg
and
PhysX DISABLED. P 4285
http://img90.imageshack.us/my.php?image=p4285ocphysxdisablednm6.jpg -

nice runs.. lemme see what mine pulls.
 -

man, i did not do that. i thougt that was only for laptop2go drivers only. after i dl the xfastest dirver,i just straight installed that thing. should i uinstall and do the procedure you gave me?
 -

gto..check the device manager and make sure it IS the display adapter..you are prolly fine
      -

how the heck did you get 9000+ scores ewreck? i got only 8750 and i downloaded the xfastest drviers.
 -

x9100 helped a bit..

can you upgrade cpu? how? does it void the warranty? does it improve crysis performance?
 -

 1) yes you can
2) open it up, remove old cpu, insert new cpu, close it up (of course its a bit more technical than that but the point is its easy)
3) yes it technically voids warranty but you will likely not have a problem as gateway won't care that you upgraded the cpu when you send it in
4) yes it will very slightly improve crysis performance, but you may not even notice it -

how many fps more? where is the tutorial for this? is the performance upgrade more significant than switching os from vista to xp?
and is overclocking really improve crysis performance?will it not slow the performance down after an hour or two -

More than likely, they won't even notice the new processor if/when you send it in. Generally, if they find a defect in the motherboard, they will replace the entire motherboard assembly or just give you a whole new/refurbished system (if you are lucky, you get your harddrive back - NOTE: when you send your laptop in for service, remove the harddrive or have a good backup).
 -

what about bestbuy warranty? will they find out i opened the cpu? where is the tutorial on upgrading cpu? what is the best motherboard for this laptop?
 -

the tutorial is this: flip the computer over onto its lid after shutting it down and removing the battery. then take a philips screwdriver to the larger sized panel on the underside of the laptop and remove the screws. once that is removed, you will be staring at the memory and cpu/cpu heatsink. take the philips screws out in numerical order. they are numbered 1 to 5 being careful to make sure there are no springs on the screws lest you lose the springs in the computer. lift the heatsink up gently and voila! you will be staring at your chipset and cpu. the cpu screw will require a flathead screwdriver to turn it. once it is turned all the way to the left, gently lift up the cpu.
reverse the process to put a new cpu in the computer.
the best motherboard for this laptop is the one that is already in it, as it is not upgradeable. -

ya know.. I've personally never seen a laptop with such an accessible CPU and RAM, and Hard drives... This thing is amazingly simple when it comes to upgrades. Aside from that, there's not much else you would upgrade internally. (btooth is easier with dongle) The FX series definately thought that out.. Pop the top, and swap the stocks.
      -

oh no.what i mean is the best cpu upgrade/unit for this laptop.does anyone know?
 -

as of now, the best cpu to put in the 7811 is the x9100, as no one can confirm that the new mobile quad core processors will work in these computers.
 -

is the x9100 on sale on best buy or fry's
 -

HIGHLY unlikely. your best bet to try and find it would be online on ebay or a hardware vendor if you feel like paying the retail price for it.
 -

x9100 is a hard to come by item, unless you want some chinaman to send it to you after it's been abused, for around $500. Or, from a retailer for $1000+ if they have it in stock. And by retailer, I don't mean BB, or CC, or CompUSA.. but online will be the place to find it.

which is better? xfastest md 177.85 or laptopto g o 180?
