Hi all new member here with a POST problem on my Gateway M-685E laptop.
POST will not proceed beyond halfway before a black screen.
Press power ON, CPU fan starts, LED's for power, wireless, number Lock ON, (Cap Lock flashes), screen goes to BIOS startup, progress bar gets less than halfway, then blank screen.
This started when I was loading a software CD into the optical drive bay on startup, and power was lost (working thru power supply as battery was toast).
I have removed the optical drive, no change. I have removed the memory modules and replaced them, no change. I have removed the HDD, no change. I have snapped a picture of the BIOS sequence page (showing both memory modules passed inspection). I have removed the CMOS battery and held down the power button (no power ), no change.
The BIOS is 72.08, and gateway shows several higher numbers to download. Would that help? If so, how?
Any other tips or tricks out there to try?
