There seems to be a FB03 bios update on Smart Update but not showing up on Gigabyte's website. Anyone know what the changes are for FB03?
I've been having issues with my 15x where after a few days or weeks windows refuses to boot and I have to recover using a previous system restore point. I wonder if this bios update fixes that
-
But I thought only the low voltage 8th gen were out by then? With the 7700HQ equivalent - perhaps the 7800HQ or whatever they decide to call it - not out until the end of the year or September perhaps?
The 7th gen 45 watt HQ will be better than the 8th gen U series - which would likely throttle under the same sustained load.
Or is the 8th Gen HQ coming out earlier and going to be in the Aero 15X refresh?
It would be odd for them to use a U series, but I've not seen any news about such an early release date - so something seems off there. -
I got a reply from Gigabyte regarding its update and availability on YouTube

I have one and it's awesome. Too bad I hear they are being discontinued? Not sure why. Once I got mine they became very scarce.

hey man there'll be definitely updated version of AERO 15X around Apr. -
Excalibur PC didn't post my Q and their A it seems, but here it is:
You can research more on Core i7-8750H and it is rated at 45W TDP. You should see the next gen Aero 15X by mid of April and GIGABYTE said they will finalize the price and specs sometime in March.
That's also the processor I found to be the most likely that they'll be using.
So 6 core, 9MB of cache, 2.6GHz vs 2.8Hz, but higher max.
Wonder what the thermals will be like, as same TDP, but 2 more cores (albeit lower speed), and it's essentially the same chip process I believe as kaby lake.
We might be seeing a 120Hz screen, and higher res options.
Personally I'd like 1080p touchscreen. Would be nice to add touch really.
And a less stiff keyboard judging from reviews and comments.
Can't expect more of a change than improved screen and keyboard I think.
Doubt we'll see touchscreen but here's hoping.
Lots of requests for 120Hz on youtube, but would that kill battery life? -
I don't think it will, unless they decide to hook it up to the dGPU instead which would reduce the battery life significantly.
-
Guess it's official.
https://videocardz.com/74983/gigaby...fee-lake-h-cpus-coming-late-march-early-april
I wonder which version they will put in ... and if it will be worth upgrading. -
It'll be the Core i7-8750H
The only other non low voltage Coffee Lake option is the new Core i9 - I doubt they'd use that.
Also I was already told they've use the Core i7-8750H -
How much of a performance improvement is that supposed to make?
Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -
Actually I see lower 4 core models listed there, but as per the message I got, and the author of that article:
Yes, if you look at existing Kabylake-H processors they are often paired with GTX1050-1080 series.
Heard from my source Gigabyte will have AERO with i7-8750H and GTX1050Ti.
I assume that's for the Aero 14x though -
Pretty massive for multi threaded applications I'd say. Only a 0.2Ghz drop but but 6 cores - 12 threads.
So 50% more if it were at the same clock speed. And there's boost.
Although I don't know much about it at all.
I'd say there's no point in struggling to get the current Aero 15X unless the new one will have thermal issues.
Then there's also the rumoured GTX 20 series coming up.
So potentially an Aero 15x with an i7-8750H and GTX 2070 maxq this year - maybe in autumn, around the time the 15X was released last year? -
if they ship a new 15x with less than a 1070max-q I’m gonna despair :/
-
He was referring to the 14X for the GTX1050Ti
So no change for the graphics card currently it seems, which makes sense.
So very likely it'll still be the 1070max-q, just with a new processor and some screen options (higher res option). Hopefully a refined keyboard and improved base screen, but we'll see.
And perhaps the 2070max-q by the end of the year! -
Hello, long time stalker, first time poster here
I recently got the Aero 15 X(this thread convinced me to get it
). I was trying to find some for the clock speeds of the 1070 Max-Q. Naturally the 1st place I searched was
https://www.notebookcheck.net/ as they have a pretty comprehensive list of CPU and GPU. Their 1070 MaxQ page (
https://www.notebookcheck.net/NVIDIA-GeForce-GTX-1070-Max-Q-GPU-Benchmarks-and-Specs.224732.0.html) lists the boost of the 1070 MaxQ as "the Boost (1265-1379 MHz)".
But I'm getting higher sustained clock speeds.
This is just after a ~2.5 hours gaming session. Fans at 100% + cooling pad + CPU undervolting.
Usually while I'm gaming(Overwatch, Grim Dawn, Hitman) I alt+tab to see the GPU clock speed, most of the time its around 1450MHz).
Any ideas where this difference between the notebookcheck's specs and the results I'm getting is coming from? Is the Open hardware monitor bugged? Any idea how I can measure the average clock speed of the GPU?

Question for owners: Does anyone have a Thunderbolt 3 dock they can recommend to me? I need one that will charge the laptop as well as provide me two HDMI outs, or a display port & HDMI to run to a 2 external monitor setup.
Also, anyone else having a problem getting it to sleep or shut down after installing the fall creators update?
Lastly, has anyone had any luck doing a clean install themselves and then installing the Gigabyte Utilities separately?
Thanks - really need a dock recommendation! -
I cannot recommend any docks, but I would like to say that the laptop cannot be charged through the TB3 port.

For some reason my webcam is not present in my device manager. Anyone know what driver will bring it back?
EDIT: Nevermind. I just flashed the latest BIOS and it popped back up.Last edited: Feb 21, 2018 -
Hi there guys !
I need your help please, I received my Aero 15X a few days ago.
Everything in the computer is awesome but the keyboard is a complete mess and I would like to know if it's normal and I have to deal with it or if the issues could be solved if I send it back to Gigabyte.
I have problems with repeated keys : sometimes keys just double randomly and make "f*ck cing double press slike" that. I used the tutorial about bouncing keys and regedit, it now happens less often but still twice in a line of text.
And issues as well with keys that need huge press to be activated. Meaning the key is pushed down but it doesn't register, I have to press it like really hard. And few keys can't be kept activated like Alt or Shift even if you press hard it doesn't keep on and then "You MISS cAps" = I never left my finger from Shift while writing it.
Just to know if people are facing those issues or not facing those please ? Then I know if I send it back if I can hope for a solve of those problems or if I have to deal with it.
Thank you a lot for reading guys !! Have fun in life !

Thanks. You're right.

Some have it worse than others from what I gather. In my case it is not enough to make me return it. Since I am retired I am not required to do much typing anyway. Even now while typing I can get through this post with no mistakes so for me it is no big deal. If I were you I would consider returning it. Have you read some of the solutions people posted here? Hope things turn out ok.

Hey guys,my unit got a dead pixel in the middle of the screen and the software fix can't get rid of it. It is small but just enough to annoy me. Since I am not based in North America, warranty woon't help me. My question is, if ever I would purchase a good ips panel and have it replaced here in our country (philippines) by a professional computer technician, would the pantone color certification will be affected? Also can you recommend me some good ips panel for this unit?
-
Hey,
Could you please send me the last smartmanager version? In my smartupdate I still got 7.0.5, and got problems with it...
Thanks -
Hi, I'm about to find Aero 15X and i'm thinking to replace and add the empty storage with 2x 2TB Samsung 960 EVO M.2 NVMe SSD. I'm not sure about the latest boot version allow me to boot the OS to the Samsung SSD itself. Also, I'm thinking to add the RAM with 2x HyperX Impact HX424S14IB/16 16GB (1x16GB) 2400MHz DDR4 SODIMM. I asked Gigabyte, they also couldn't guarantee if it will work or not. Does anyone try?
Thanks -
Heads up, the new keyboard firmware update through Smart Update seems to fix the chattering.

Just got the notification that my package has arrived at my po box. 1 1/2 hours left until I can get my Aero I ordered on New Year’s!!! Open open open

Typing this response with the latest keyboard ffirmware fix, and while it seems a lot better I'm still getting the occasional chatter especially with the f key. (Although itt only happened once so far, oh also there with the t key.) Yeah, I'd say the chattering problem is still a significant issue post-update.
-
Ridiculous that something as basic as a keyboard is giving them issues and takes this long to fix :SRMXO likes this.

What's ridiculous is they're still having keyboard issues throughout their laptop models.

Buyers will have the option between two new high performance displays; a bezel-less 144Hz panel, and a 4K UHD IPS panel with AdobeRGB 100%

I just hope they offer some kind of upgrade option! Doubtful though. I guess I could always sell my 15X for near cost and purchase the new one.
-
I seriously doubt there will be a upgrade option, sure it sucks buying a new laptop and then a updated model is released but that's how it goes.
Question on your current 15x, how are temps and fan noise when gaming?
These thin and lite models tend to run hot and loud and if I'm spending a lot of money I don't want hot and loud, I realize it comes with the territory but I hate really loud fans under load/gaming. -
Sure, but the difference here is that they released the Aero 15X 4 months ago with a defective keyboard, pulled it from the market, and are releasing a newer 'fixed' version. If there isn't some kind of trade in option, I would imagine these are grounds for a lawsuit. Thankfully my keyboard isn't too affected, I get very little chatter compared to some users on here, but it's still an annoyance considering the price.
My thermals and fan noise are pretty decent while gaming. My GPU never really passes 70c, and my CPU rarely exceeds 75c playing demanding games like Escape from Tarkov on ultra (at which point the fans are on moderate, but still pretty darn quiet). If I jump my machine up to high performance mode, the CPU can get hotter (pushing 88c), that of course increases the fan noise and overall performance - pushing FPS on demanding games from the 60/80s to 120s.IKAS V likes this. -
I'd hold out and confirm that's the case! Im certainly not impulse buying the updated 15x until I've read some reviews!

Anyone have pictures for size and scale of the psu? 15X seems like it fits all my needs but trying to see how big it is. Downsizing from the alienware 13r3 as my main travel rig. The PSU doesn't look smaller though.

i really hope it has usb-c power delivery, a mini 30W usbC charger works great on my macbook pro
-
Problem with USB-C Power delivery is that it can't provide the power required to run the combination of the CPU and GPU.Vistar Shook likes this.

Max Draw is 100Watts... Seeing as this has a 200 Watt PSU don't think that is possible. You have have the issue the current surface book 2 has where it drains power on intensive tasks like gaming while plugged in.Vistar Shook likes this.

This is for when you are on the road and only use it for surfing, 30W is plenty -
Not really the CPU already reaches up 15watt quickly after just opening some apps such as chrome. That leaves out just 20~15watts for the rest. Also in general laptops that require more power oftne dont ahve the circuits in palce for charging over USB C.
-

i'm using my macbook pro 13 on 30W right now, battery stays at 100% even after running WOT blitz for an hour, there is no reason 30W is not enough for browsing. -
Mamcbook pro 13 comes with a 15watt cpu not 45watt. 13 inch screen vs 15. Ddrr3 vs ddr4. Its designes to be a ppwer efficient machine while the aero is made to pull up to 160watts. Optimus helps but it still drains.
-

CPU is 28W, it seems like you are just making assumptions that 30W is not enough for browsing. usb-c power delivery gives alot of flexibility, i don't know why fan bois are defending companies for not including it. There are days you don't need to run photoshop or premiere on the road and just need the laptop for reading notebookreview. There is no reason to also log around the 200W AC adaptor.Last edited: Apr 2, 2018 -

Fanboys? Im just realistic here. And even the 28watt cpu is still less than 45watt.
Board space is limited, compared to ultrabooks these laptops have to house a full desktop gpu and all its components, multiple storage slots etc. Why would any company include an usb c charging circuit on a laptop like this which can barely if not run at a 30watt psu.
Even if i do the bare minimum on my laptop with similar specs its hovering between 15 and 20 watt. 30watt psu doesnt push the full 30watt. Its on the edge and if i start photoshop its too much. It prevents people from having trouble with chargers that do not belong on this laptop. The power circuitry is much bigger on these laptops to begin with.ThePerfectStorm likes this. -
The updated Aero 15x is on Gigabyte's page.

6 core processor and optional 4k.
Not sure if it's worth upgrading from the original Aero 15x since it has the same GPU with the 11 series around the corner. -
@sockfish isn't there generally a delay from when the new GPUs are released to their mobile/laptop variants? I'm wondering because i'm due for a new laptop and looking at the Aero 15x.
-
Usually. It will be interesting to see what nvidia does on this with the 11 series release this summer. Unless you need a new laptop right now, it might be worth waiting for the GPU refresh. Nice review here of the Aero:
