    Hi everyone,

I've got an Aorus X5 V6 with an Nvidia GTX 1070 card. This hardware isn't outdated by any stretch and can still run new games (e.g. Doom Eternal) at pretty much max settings with good fps. However the most recent official Nvidia drivers for this laptop are version 369.26, released by Aorus on 18 Aug 2017, almost four years ago.

Using current Nvidia drivers leads to a host of problems - hard crashing in newer games, and a strange bug where the screen refresh rate will randomly drop from 120hz to 60hz and need to be manually reset (the Nvidia panel will still read 120, so it has to be switched to 60 and then back). Any driver newer than version 416.34 (11 Oct 2018) has the refresh rate bug, while 399+ experience hard crashes. For reference 461.72 is the current Nvidia driver.

The 369.26 driver is so old that Windows tries to autoupdate it to 382.05 and newer games refuse to let you use it, so there doesn't seem to be a stable Nvidia driver for this laptop anymore at all.

Do other people have this issue? Any workarounds? I started a support ticket with Gigabyte.

I don't think I have a hardware issue as I've done a bunch of cpu and memory checks, and can run the tests in Intel XTU, OCCT, POV-Ray and other benchmarking software without any problems or crashes. I'm also not overclocking at all.

did you try installing the latest nVIDIA Driver from Gigabyte? Download = https://download.gigabyte.com/FileL...it-win10-dchu-vga-nv-studio-27.21.14.6140.zip

Make sure to right click on the file(s) you just downloaded, go to Properties, then hit Unblock from the bottom right as it may be blocked since it was downloaded from the internet, if you don't do this before you run the file or extract it, then it may not install correctly.

To prevent this automatic blocking of files in the future so you don't have to go unblocking every file you download to ensure it runs properly, follow the guide in this thread:

    Get an error

"This NVIDIA graphics driver is not compatible with this version of Windows.
This graphics driver could not find compatible graphics hardware."

    I'm on Windows 10 version 20H2 (build 19042.867) so :(

The above-referenced driver is probably the Windows 10 DCH version. Your laptop likely needs the standard one, which you can find linked in this thread: Nvidia GeForce Driver 461.81 Hotfix | NotebookReview

That seems to just be a default Nvidia driver right? I tried installing it just now (461.81), but unfortunately my laptop hard crashes with it in the same way I described above.
