Swapping the Killer card is a great idea. Just recently the Killer Suite gave me a bluescreen. As did the older drivers before (installed latest Version directly from Atheros HP to cure this) + I had this wit MSI as well. I think I should do the same...
Best regards

@Darkhan
Can you please confirm the 4k screen is B173ZAN01.0? You can check it in HWinfo. -
I think so? I had the RBP 2017 and as I mentioned in previous thread this screen just as good as the RBP and now I see why.
I have had glossy screens that are just ridiculous with reflections on them, this one does not seem to be that way, very pleased with it.Derek712 likes this. -
I agree, I thought it was a great panel as well. I think the glare will turn some away though, especially since it's not touch.
Can you also please verify if Gsync is working? There's a menu option in Nvidia settings that you can switch on to verify. Reason I'm asking is because I struggled with Gsync with that panel on the RBP. Thanks!Darkhan likes this. -
Yes that was one of the first things I checked was to make sure it was enabled. I am still on stock driver but the screen has been fluid in games and benchmarks where the RBP had issues with scrambling video.

Awesome, that's nice to know, thanks. Yeah, that was really frustrating with the RBP. Especially since the system costs $4k. This laptop blows that one away, imo.Vistar Shook, Darkhan and hmscott like this.

Lol, well don't speak too soon. It really depends what game you play, but this one gets pretty hot as well. I measured temps very similar to the RBP when playing Doom for 30 minutes. But considering this GPU isn't crippled, I'm not dinging them too hard on it.
-
I have noticed it warm under the right wrist area, but nothing uncomfortable. I will take some temps later today after 1hr of gaming.
The RBP WASD keys got so hot for me I did not want to rest my fingers on them. -
The top is actually ok - it's the bottom that's bad. I got a 60C hotspot, which is insane.

I always use a
LapGear Lap Desk Deluxe Laptop XL 17
Or have it on a Desk, I cant remember the last time I used a notebook on my lap. -
Swapped out the drives and wifi card. Piece of cake.
Did a noise test about 12 inches above trackpad, highest i got was 55db so not too bad.bsch3r, RMXO, hmscott and 1 other person like this. -
I love it when I pay for FedEx Sat delivery, driver doesnt show up but say they did and left a tag but there is no tag on my front door.
Called FedEx support and hopefully they will be able to contact the driver to re-deliver later today or I will have to wait until Tues to get it.
Lesson learned, next time, will have them deliver to a local FedEx office so I can pick it up myself.phila_delphia, Darkhan, MiSJAH and 1 other person like this. -
Man, I feel your pain, had that happen to me once.

I'm pissed and bummed out. Planned my weekend around getting my new laptop up & running. sigh. Need to do better planning next time, lol.
-
It's going back to the local depot, I've often gone to the depot after the truck is scheduled to arrive and had them pull it from the truck.
Give the depot a call and explain the problem, they are usually very happy to help you pick up at their location rather than drive it out to you again.phila_delphia, Vistar Shook and Darkhan like this. -
Seems the depot is closed during the weekend. Thanks for suggestion though.Last edited: Aug 5, 2017hmscott likes this.

I had that happen. Waiting on my new RC heli.
Had the day off (was Friday) sat at home waiting for the delivery. Around 7pm I see UPS truck haul ass past my house. About 715, I check tracking and it said "attempted delivery, left tag"
I was livid

They usually are only open 1/2 day, I think they close at 2pm to customers, but are actually still running till 4pm, but different regions might have different hours. Next time.

Ouch, I'm still livid and irritated. Been trying to get FedEx to help me but they say they can't do **** and can't contact the driver.Vistar Shook, Darkhan and hmscott like this.

Thanks for that info. I drove to the depot after reading this and currently at the depot. A kind person went to look for the package and they are closing in 15 mins. Sadly driver hasn't comeback yet and ill have to wait until Mon.
Thanks for the info and worth a shot in trying.

Nice score, however, you have a core differential problem (8c). Are you planning to repaste/repad?Darkhan likes this.
-
Nice! Did you use Command center to OC the GPU or did you use Afterburner?
-
Afterburner and XTU. Command and control doesn't have a very aggressive OC. I wish it could be customized because the software is pretty convenient.

Thanks for the tips.

Very nice guys ! Enjoy your laptops, seems like Auros did a great job with this model.
Question about the fan noise and highish temps on the CPU, will repasting with CLU or my personal favorite grizzly kryonaut help to keep fan noise more tolerable?
The one thing I hate is loud fans and I understand with gaming laptops you expect a certain amount of noise but if it can be controlled Auros really has a winner.
It's funny how much higher watt GPU can run much cooler than a 45 W Intel CPU even if it's HK 7820.
Looking at HK -7820 laptops it seems there is a pattern , it's more Intel's fault than the manufacturer using them.
Another question is where did you guys order from? It seems it's only for pre-order everywhere in the US and it feels like forever.Darkhan likes this. -
Newegg has had them in stock for a couple weeks.
-
There's no noise issues with the 7820HK in Aorus as long as you run it on stock clocks (especially with an undervolt); a 5min XTU stress test at stock clocks with 100mV undervolt led to max temp of 76C, and the fans never got anything close to loud (roughly 40% max fan speed). Pushing it to a 400mHz OC with 85mV undervolt does get noisy as the CPU reaches 88C, but still not anything near max fans (roughly 70%). Both tests were ran with the Gaming Fan profile, which does run the fans a bit more aggressively, so you could always allow for higher temps but lower noise if that's your preference.
Long term sustained usage, and especially coupled with long-term GPU usage causes the fans to be noisy because there is so much heat for the laptop to dissipate all at once, but I would not point the finger at the 7820HK in particular.
With that said, I'm sure a better thermal paste & pads can only improve the situation, and I'm sure others have already done so on the 6820HK versions if not yet on the new 7820HK, and I'm guessing the results will be comparable.IKAS V, Vistar Shook and RMXO like this. -
So just a heads up, my first set of scores right after getting the x5 v7 4k (posted earlier) were as follows:
Default (GPU at shipped/stock 0 OC, CPU at shipped/stock 4/Max OC): 14050 (CPU hitting thermal and TDP limit)
GPU & CPU @ 4 OC: 14550 (CPU hitting thermal and TDP limit)
GPU & CPU @ 4 OC with CPU undervolted 85mV: 14770 (no more CPU throttling)
After updating all the drivers with the only exception being C&C (since, as previously posted, they lower the OC steps on the GPU) I got:
GPU & CPU @ 4OC with latest drivers - C&C: 14133
After updating C&C on top of all the others, the score went to:
GPU & CPU @ 4OC with all latest drivers: 13954
That's a pretty significant drop, especially from the change in the drivers.Darkhan, Vistar Shook and RMXO like this. -

Besides the issue of the cooling paste I just mentioned, I am completely fine with temps and noise. Not only because I do not care for noise to much (what did you just say?) but as well because the Aorus cooling system with the upper intakes for the fans is simple and effective.
After the latest repaste I have been gaming several hours yesterday (Ghost Recon Wildlands / High-Max Settings / 1080p / capped at 60 FPS) and while the ambient temps were around 25°C I`d expereience temps averaging around 70°C (Spike 82°C on CPU and 72° on GPU) with the CPU oced to 4 Ghz (-65mV undervolted) and the GPU oced to 1911 Mhz (uv to 900mV).
As the 7820HK seems to be somewhat more effective (higher oc) there should not be a temperature problem, especially as the stock config only allows for 45W while mine is allowed to draw 60W (via throttlestop) -> in order to maintain the 4 Ghz while running wPrime on all Cores/Threads and keeping some boost (3.6 Ghz) under Prime95 (latest version). Even then the CPU will not exceed 88°C (absolutely worst case).
Best regards

Finally got my laptop today. Now I know why some folks would want to go "POSTAL" on a delivery carrier.
I got a blue eagle on my track pad and i might have a lemon. The laptop boots up and I can see all the lights and what not but the LCD is blank. Nothing comes up during booting. I've unplugged the CMOS battery a few times and held on to the power until it resets but no luck.
Anyone got ideas? I can't believe the **** I'm going through, lol. Had to wait until today to finally get it and it doesn't work.Last edited: Aug 8, 2017Vistar Shook likes this. -
You got it from HID right? And they already pasted it and changed out some items on it?
I would try and remove one stick of mem and boot and then try the other? -
Yeap, they repasted with CLU and took out the stock NVME ssd drive. I tried different RAM sticks and no go. I plugged the HDMI cable to my monitor and nothing showed up. Going to try unplugging battery and CMOS again (only did CMOS last time).
-
Mine took a long time to boot when I changed out all the components. How long did you wait?
What model did you get again?Darkhan likes this. -
I noticed that also with the NewEgg X7 v7 and it took around 5 mins or less to see the Aorus logo and post. With this one (X7 v7 ), so far I've waited a 15 mins and nothing. So I'm going to leave it on for longer now.
-
You have the DT or the 1070? Just curious how you got a blue logo.hmscott likes this.

X7 v7 1070
I'm going to return this and can't decide if I should try again or not.
This isn't the outcome I wanted but this might be a blessing in disguise.
