You can get a laptop cooling pad.

The only other possible reason I can think of is if the CPU isn't making proper contact with the cooling block.

when i post a temperature its from the firestrike test
the phyisics part of the test is where it gets to 95. Edit or the intel xtu benchmark.
    i overclock but undervolt.
I havent found the perfect setting. You can greatly undervolt the cpu if you were to also underclock it.

the theory of undervolt is that your cpu is overvolted. and finding the right voltage will lower its temps. 3 c for my 5700

Finally made my CPU temp max at 90C while benchmarking with Heaven 4.0 ultra settings.

    1. I reapply thermal paste to CPU and GPU with DeepCool z5. I didn't over-tighten the screw that presses the plate to cpu which the last time I did.
    2. I tweak my CPU using XTU (undervolt -100mV and underclock to 34x 33x 30x 30x from 37x 36x 35x 35x. In Heaven 4.0 benchmark there is almost no difference in performance. Average FPS of 64.2 (no tweak) vs 63.8 (with undervolt and underclock).
    3. Bought DeepCool MultiCore x8 Cooling Pads (using only the top 2 fans). I feel much better that my laptop will stay cooler.

Without the cooling pad the temp is around 92C from previous 96C and my CPU always throttling before while gaming. Now I doesn't throttle anymore while playing Far Cry 4 with ultra settings (Max temp 89C).

Is it possible to get surround sound out of this laptop to drive a 5.1 Home Cinema system och a headphone with support for surround sound? The manual has almost no information about this and Aorus website only list "earphone-out(SPDIF)".

The $250 included their shipping back. I insured my package for $2000 and it still cost like $30.

Just plug in your receiver to the hdmi port on he laptop. You should get pure bitstream sound out of it. The receiver will do the rest. If you don't have a receiver you can just use the spdif out on the laptop. If either your sound system doesn't have a spdif connector or you're not using a receiver then I don't think you will be able to get 5.1 out of it since there is not enough 3.5mm connectors to do it. I hope that helped.

Thanks for info. Having to setup a receiver and use the HDMI port just to get surround sound in a desktop setup is a bit too much but apparently you use an adapter to get the optical signal out of the Earphone jack like this:

    http://www.inet.se/produkt/8900236/toslink-hona-till-miniplug-hane-adapter#/specs

Or you could just buy a cable that has the same adapter built in.

Been thinking about switching over to Windows 10.
Been using is for a over a year now as a Microsoft insider on my professional equipment.

    Have Aorus drivers meanwhile matured?

I upgraded in the first couple days that windows 10 was released. No issues with drivers other than the buggy Killer network drivers. I went back to the windows 8.1 version and turned off the "killer bandwidth control" under the LAN controller in device manager. That solved the constant disconnects with the controller. Wireless worked fine oddly enough. Usually its the Intel drivers that cause problems.

I purchased an X7 Pro-sync for the sole purpose of being a workstation. I do not game at all.
When I was shopping around I couldn't find any information about how good it would be as a workstation, but I took the risk and bought the laptop anyway. So I am posting here so others may find this post.
The X7 is an excellent workstation.
I run full 3D models in AutoCAD 2016 and it runs flawlessly. It easily outperforms my desktop with Quadro.

AutoCAD can be set to use SLI
I did this by entering the NVidia Control Panel --> 3D Settings --> Manage 3D Setting
In the window select "Programme Settings" then Add AutoCAD to the list
AutoCAD will now run using the GPU's and not the on-board graphics.

I also run some specialist software that does Non-linear finite element analysis of large deflection lightweight structures and have no issues. Similar to AutoCAD it is a 3D software which relies heavily on the graphics.
To those considering the Aorus X7 Pro as a workstation, I hope you read this.

I upgraded to Windows 10 and the only issue I experienced was on booting from shut down it would hang on a black screen. Disabling "fast startup" has solved that and it take all of 8 seconds longer too boot.
    To do this:
Control Panel --> Power options --> Choose what the power buttons do --> Change setting that are currently unavailable
Under Shutdown settings: Uncheck "Turn on Fast Startup"

Glad you like it! If you use the NVIDIA drivers from Drivers update and latest BIOS it will eliminate the Black screen from Boot and Sleep. But I updated my NVIDIA for sake of new games and I experiencing Blackscreen again and I did the same as you did to prevent it.

I will share you simple TIP to avoid getting 95C+ when heavy gaming. I did so many thermal repaste and bought cooling pad but it has minimal effect on reducing temp. I just lowered the Maximum processor management to 99% under advance option in Power option and it will disable turbo at 3.5Ghz and be stable at 2.5Ghz. It has very very minimal impact on FPS or I say almost no difference but the difference in CPU temp is significant. My max CPU temp now is around 86-87C without AC in my room (living in tropical). Average of 79C while playing MAD MAX ultra settings 90fps v-sync on (my monitor OC to 90Hz).

Hope this helps. Tried using XTU under volting and underclocking and it is not stable always restarting. This will help avoid CPU throttling that cause stutters.

EDIT: I noticed that the 99% max doesnt save when boot. What will be the fix for these? Don't want to adjust every time I will boot.

I'm starting to get real frustrated with this laptop now and the fact that with SLI enabled, it never seem to work properly with an external monitor. More precisely, never works when either resuming from sleep or starting from turned off. At least 9 out o 10 times it wont show anything on the external monitor, despite it being set as main display. Often, it won't show anything on built in panel either. A restart usually makes it work again, so it isn't a connection problem or anything. Screen is a Philips BMD4065 connected via mini-DisplayPort (that works perfectly fine with my other computers). Any idea on how to solve this? Anyone else experiencing anything similar?

You can probably get a Skylake upgrade for the X7's, just contact Aorus support and they'd be able to help you.

I think Aorus did announce plans for the new Nvidia GTX980 (not the M, the new desktop grade GPU) for the X7 ProSync so I would like to think they are going to do that with Skylake when they get around to it.

I'm also curious about this and the G-Sync upgrade. Actually, the G-Sync is first on my list, but if I could update the processor at the same time, that would be cool, but not as high up in the priority.

Where do I go to sign up? I would love to do the G-sync upgrade for my laptop. It's only been a few months that I've had it and it sounds great if I could upgrade it.

I'm trying to add a third SSD (250GB Crucial MX200) but the Intel rapid storage software is not listing it under add disk. Even thought the new SSD can be seen under 'Storage system view' it does not allow me to add it. It only lists the SATA Disk (HDD) - does anyone know if I'm missing something? What is the correct procedure for adding a new SSD to the existing RAID0?

I recently upgraded to windows 10 and like it...for the most part. But there a couple annoying little hiccups.

    1. It does not successfully wake from sleep, or from the 1st shutdown. I have to physically hold the power button down for it to successfully restart. I fixed this by changing power options>sleep>enable hybrid sleep mode.
    2. Typing this in a browser often locks up the browser every couple seconds. Like the typing gets delayed...Super annoying.
    3. OMG the two finger scrolling is so terrible. For some reason the scrolling in windows 10 is just balls. Windows 8 two finger scrolling was as it should be and has been for about a decade. No clue why they changed this.

    Anywho. Those are my experiences.

i hope they fix the sleep mode. sometimes i cant justify the cost of this laptop if some basic functionality is not working with expensive device.

EDIT: Good news guys. The latest NVIDIA driver 358.50 fix the sleep/wake in both SLI on/off mode, also the fast booth enabled is functioning normally. Im using windows 10. I tried multiple shutdown and sleep/wake and its working as it should be. Cheers!

    Hey guys,
So, I so far love this laptop. I took advice that I read on here earlier and made the jump to snyc for my pro. It was definitely worth it in my opinion. Though, I must say that I hate getting bottle-necked by my cpu running at 2.5 ghz. Is it possible to overclock? Advertisements said this laptop could reach up to 3.5 ghz. Any tips or ideas? Is this a bad idea?

Your laptop wont maintain 3.5 on all 4 cores forever. It will throttle when doing anything super demanding.

In my case I disable turbo to 3.5Ghz to avoid hi temps around 90C+ and throttles and there is no noticible drop FPS and more quiet(the main CON). I enable turbo again if im not gaming and doing some other stuffs.

Same here, at least in terms of gaming I never see my CPU to be the bottleneck. Temperatures can also dramatically change when choosing "balanced" power scheme over high performance. The latter keeps the CPU clocked at maximum on all cores, which can ramp up temperatures even if some core are not used momentarily. I noticed that I not always need the "high performance" setting to run the game at max fps.

After months of use, what a gem of a laptop, I like it a lot :)

IT's in the manual, the left HDMI is for surround, you need both right hdmi and mini display in use to use the left port. That's totally normal, again, check out the manual, it says that the left port only works as a surround port. (3 monitor)

Hey guys it's been a while. Still loving my X7 Pro v3. Decided not to upgrade to Pro-sync version in the end as the variable sync range seemed narrow (45 to 75Hz I believe) and external variable sync displays aren't that big in screen size at the moment, I personally can't play on anything less than 42 inch in screen size (2 ft away on my desk) but that's just me.

One thing that still is an issue on my X7 Pro v3, is the frustrating fact that most times I always have to re-boot/restart the system for things to work. For some reason Apps, features, programs and other functions don't work properly upon any first boot-up/power-on; I always have to do a restart straight after first start-up for everything to work harmoniously after. I am sure I disabled Windows Fast Start-up before in an attempt to maybe cure the problem, but at the time remembering that it caused additional or other problems, therefore I re-enabled it.

I have similar issues, I have the Pro - Sync, and the first time i boot it up, It will freeze as soon as it hits the desktop for about 60 seconds, then free up and freeze again. This is only on cold boot, any additional load up when warm work fine. it's weird, I see a "Reset to device \Device\RaidPort0, was issued" in the event viewer.

    On Windows 8.1 or 10 ?

Go to task manager and then to Startup, windows will show you a list op applications active upon start and it's impact rated on low, medium and high. Gives you something to work with, by way of process of elimination and disable one by one.

Hey Everyone, I have the Aorus X7PRO-CF1 and just upgraded to windows 10. I also used the "drivers update" app to get all of the newest drivers, utilities and BIOS. I am now seeing something that is concerning. Previously on w8.1, the system was not shy at all with cranking the fans up when temps started to rise, it was actually quite loud but I liked knowing that it was keeping the temps as low as possible. Now I am running 3Dmark, the CPU is in the 85-90 degree range, and the fans don't sound like they are working very hard at all. C&C says they are around 4100RPM. I don't remember what RPM's it would get up to previously, but t's not nearly as loud as it used to be. I have the "system cooling policy" on active and the maximum fan speed limit in C&C on 100%. I would assume being in the 85-90 degree range would cause the fans to kick up to 100% it's just not happening. Any advice or guidance would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

hello, I noticed the same. Very loud fans on win 8.1 even around 85-90 and when it is on 95C+ the fan spins around 6000rpm. In windows 10, fan profiles were more quiet but my temps reading is same from 8.1. If you disable turbo (power option settings) your temps can go 75-80C while gaming without loss of FPS and fans were quiet. This is only way to fix the big Con of the laptop, the noise.

EDIT: you cannot spin 100% manually in win 10

Anyone else looking into the Oculus Rift on the Aorus X7?
I'm not looking for opinions on the whole VR thing, lots of other place for that, but the the feasibility to meet the requirements.

The official requirements read an NVIDIA GTX 970 and Intel i5-4590.

It goes without saying the GTX970m does not equal a desktop GTX970, however two in SLI theoretically reach (and often surpass) the performance of a desktop GTX980.
But then there's the whole SLI support thing on the Oculus Rift; it does not Nvidia Optimus, do luckily we do not have that problem as this is disabled on SLI laptops. But SLI support is unconfirmed, on the DK2 one reads positive experience and negative ones.

My Aorus has the i7-4870HQ, so that's technically lower than a Intel i5-4590, however that's up to a lot of debate I think and the practical difference for running games is that too.
A lot of questions, I'm reluctant and got my finger on the cancel preorder button the coming months until I clear this out for myself.

I love this machine and it obliterates any game I play on it, and replacement or upgrade is not in my mind at all for hopefully some time to come.
But 90 fps on 1980x1200 on both eyes, that's something else. I rather pass on VR till a couple of years when I'm ready to look beyond my Aorus X7.

This does seem to inspire trust for SLI support and VR:

    GameWorks VR

VR SLI provides increased performance for virtual reality apps where multiple GPUs can be assigned a specific eye to dramatically accelerate stereo rendering. With the GPU affinity API, VR SLI allows scaling for systems with >2 GPUs. VR SLI is supported for DirectX and OpenGL
