13.9" QHD+ 3200x1800 Wide Viewing Angle LCD - So downscale to 1600x900 and it'll look like native?
13.9" QHD 2560x1440 Wide Viewing Angle LCD - downscale to what?
These are both IPS right?
I only ask because gaming at such a high resolution would be good for me
-
Karamazovmm Overthinking? Always!
The math is simple divide by 2 each part of the resolution
So it becomes 1280x720

^Oh ok, thanks! Didn't know that
I'm personally keeping an eye out on this and the GX500 -
I can vouch for the 1800p panel, it looks great gaming at 1080p.

This is one of the nicest looking gaming laptop's I've seen. Except for that fugly logo on the lid, if resellers sell this hopefully there will be an option to remove that logo.
I really want one of these if the heat isn't too bad. -
I'm not so sure you can easily remove the logo besides its not that bad.
-
Megacharge Custom User Title
It's pretty hideous IMHO. But to each their own. -
Well it's alot better than the Razer's snake or Msi's dragon lol. Yeah everybody has his own taste and I kinda like that eagle logo along with the Rog's logo.
-
Uhmmm... The heat under that hood.... Going to need to see some tests first
-
Probably comparable or likely better than the Razer Blade considering it has 35-40% more volume and similar components.
-
I'm very very tempted by the x3 plus but since I've not owned a gaming laptop, I'm worried about the battery life being woefully short if I use it on the road. I did a bit of digging around but obviously not much info, however, noticed that Overclockers in the UK just listed the x3 plus for pre-order, expected date is 31st July?!
-
X3 and X3 Plus should use Optimus, giving it reasonable battery life. Only reason X7 doesn't is because of SLI which does not support Optimus.
-
I was thinking the same thing
lets wait and see
when do they come out?? -
forgot to ask last time I saw this - this is Kepler (870m), not maxwell?

There is no Maxwell 870M.
-
Aye, I thought this laptop was a Maxwell 860m, but the overclockers site said 870m. Obviously got my wires crossed somewhere - my bad...

where are you getting the 18w figure? Do you have any more info about this? I am excited about this machine but I am looking for more details about battery and power draw. -
Karamazovmm Overthinking? Always!
its a simple math matter. if the OEM says the battery life expectancy and we have the battery rating you can just do the math

right, where are you getting these figures to male conclusions from? I.e. power draw. or are you basing it on components? -
Karamazovmm Overthinking? Always!
no from what I told you before

I actually kinda wish they went with the Maxwell 860M instead of the 870M. The 860M can be overclocked to near 870M levels and still remain cool. Although 860M is probably too weak to drive a 2.5K/3K display. Anyway will wait to see the thermals on this one before making a decision.
-
I'm sure it'll get the 870M Maxwell equivalent at some point anyway.
-
How do you think, would be possible to turn off dedicated GPU to reduce power consumption (so it will use just HD4600) ? In BIOS or in Windows? I consider 860M would be enough for this form factor as 870M has too big TDP
-
Dedicated GPU is always off with non 3D (i.e. Windows) apps and if told to use the IGP with nVidia Control Panel (Optimus).
-
anyone heard more about these awesome laptops - release dates etc? Have cancelled my order on the msi ghost and am eagerly waiting for these.
-
I have spoken to a supplier in Australia and he stated they would be receiving them mid-late July, so I'm assuming laptops would be shipped to customers end of July. I heard somewhere the release was in the Asian Countries first then Australia then rest of the world, no idea why it is in that order normally Australia get everything last.
-
Thanks for the info. Anyone know of a good asia online retailer?
-
Have a look on the Aorus website under the x7, there is a list of retailers at the bottom of the page. That is assuming they will also stock the x3 and x3+
-
The chassis design is a bit ugly tbh - anyone can tell at a first glance that it's a gaming laptop. Reminds me of the silverstone raven series.
I prefer the understated design of the p34g v2, however it will be interesting to find out how this aorus copes with the heat.
It seems that playing any game scaled down to 1600x900, with the power of the 870m should offer a better experience compare with 1920x1080 and a gtx860m on the p34g, so in half a mind to wait for a month and find out. Not sure if it's worth the extra £300 and ugly design though. -
I think its one of the only attractive gaming laptops out there. The Razer blade looks like a macbook but the logo is terrible and childish, as with alienware's. The gigabyte reminds me of something from best buy, and the alienware 14 manages to look like a gaming notebook as well as something from best buy imo. This one reminds of a certain fighter jet with the exhausts, and looks similar to the asus g46 except slimmer.
I think it will be way more than an extra 300, since its basically a luxury p34g. While the p34g is around $1500, the x3 plus is probably going to be closer to $2300-$2500 depending on storage. You probably get upgraded quality in the screen, build quality, sound quality, keyboard etc over the gigabyte. Also the battery is almost double. I don't understand why they made it a 13.9 inch screen instead of a 14 inch, my guess is just to make the marketing phrase that its the only gaming computer in its size which wouldn't be true if it were 14 inch. -
OcUK have the P34G V2 CF2 listed at £1319.99, and the Aorus X3 Plus at £1629.95, so that is roughly a £300 difference.
Regarding the design - personally I like to be able to use a laptop in any situation with any group of people, without it being blatantly obvious that it is designed for gaming. The P34G achieves this, but the X3 plus sticks out like a sore thumb.
If OcUK are stocking the P34G with the larger battery (~61Wh?) then I will likely just go for that.
Now, if this was a maxwell 870m in the aorus, and it didn't have those batmobile style ridges and vents, then I would almost certainly go for that instead. -
I think your being overly critical about the chassis design, the only thing that tells me it's a gaming laptop is the stupid logo on the lid, but to each his own.
I personally don't make too big a deal on how a laptops looks unless it's grossly over the top with the lighting and bling, It looks pretty sleek and modern, especially when it comes to high performance gaming laptops.
As long as the cooling is good I can forgive the few small details that I don't like. -
Yeah, you're right I am being a little too critical - it's not like an old style alienware or something!
I just don't like it to be noticeable at all - so I feel comfortable to use the laptop in anyone's presence (gamers and people who think they are a waste of time) without feeling judged - maybe my own problem, but that's still the state of society... -
In regards to the looks, some will hate some will like, each to their own. In an office environment if people are looking at your laptop they will generally be looking at the screen so they wont be able to see the logo or vents.. unless they are sitting across the desk from you. But I don't see that as a problem.
I can't see the cooling being a problem, gigabyte have managed to keep the same components in the p35w v2 at about 90 degrees. In this chassis being a couple mm thicker and more vents I would expect it to be a few degrees cooler. The gs60 is the only slim gaming laptop which I have heard with some problems cooling the 870m, but it has a different style cooling system, intake above the keyboard. -
Dumb question, if these laptops come out in UK, do they come out with UK keyboard layouts?
-
Eh? If you're sitting at a conference table, the people across from you will see the lid the and the vents.
-
Read it again cheif, I do mention it will be seen if they are sitting across the desk from you. In my situation its not something that is a problem.
On a side note, do you know if you will be getting an x3+ for review? Your x7 review was very thourough. -
I should be getting an X3+ for review, yes. When? I do not know yet.
-
Looking forward for your X3+ review HTWingNut! Do you have a review on the PG34V2?
-
Which would be thicker this or the asus g46vw?
-
Asus G46VW for sure, I personally own the G46VW and I use it as my main machine. Real nice, but time for an upgrade
-
+1 aesthetics are all opinion, there's little fact there unless it's just unilaterally badly manufactured.
-
Uhh I did check their dimensions. The g46 has 348x261x22 while the aorus x3 has 330x263.5x22.9. They have do have similar dimensions. Just made me think since seeing pics makes me think it's less thick than the g46 but the dimensions says the otherwise.
-
Very true, however I would be surprised if the build quality is bad. All indications were the x7 was very well sorted (wingnut would be best to comment?) And apart from average materials and some fan noise the last gens p34 and p35 had no major issues. Also, correct me if im wrong here, Gigabyte produce the 17" Blade Pro for razer, again no issues and considered by some to have some of the best build quality this side of an apple product.
This is just my assumption/justification for placing a pre order when I can, we won't know for sure until someone has one in hand. -
My concern is that x3 will be a fingerprint magnet Gaming-Notebooks Aorus X3 Plus und Aorus X7 - Notebookcheck.com News
