Not sure if this helps, but my UK Aero came with this installed: NVMe SAMSUNG MZVLV512, showing in Windows 10 as this: Driver: Microsoft, 21/06/2006, version 10.0.10586.0 (same as you), so it does not look like a special driver is needed.
I too am on the same BIOS as you, but unlike you my drive is identified in the BIOS under the Advanced / NVMe heading.
Looks like a BIOS incompatibility issue, which might cause problems if trying to use that as the sole boot device. I'd contact Gigabyte support to let them know, but even then the support people might not pass this on to the correct persons. Based on my recent experiences, the first level of support seems to be there to appease "basic" customer needs / idiots, rather than those with any level of technical insight.
Edit: fixed model number.

That could be a possibility, I don't have a Windows Installation Disc or USB non was provided. I made a recovery usb using Gigabtye's Smart USB backup and installed it on my drive but no luck either on being read. I wonder if a standard windows installation could read it, still find it weird that the BIOS doesnt read it at all. Is there a way to install a driver specifically for the BIOS to read?
That's interesting, where did you purchase your Aero 14. I wonder if this is affecting all Aero 14s from Newegg. I was on a older BIOS before having the latest figured the new BIOS would fix it. Started a ticket with them, hopefully I can escalate to higher level support. -

Samsung nvme drives do need a bios. Yours is just updated by windows update afterwards.
-
By do need a bios, is there a bios update to read the 950 pro? I don't have any other pcie drives to test with, do see if its a ssd specific issue for the bios but so far its being read fine in windows 10.
Ran a benchmark and the performance is about right. But I can't see it in the bios or windows boot manger :-/ -
So for those having issues with there, samsung 950 pro ssds with the Aero 14 for setting it up as a boot drive, here's the solution from aggielaw at Tom's Hardware.

The solution that aggielaw suggests worked for me. It seems like the ssd will still not show in the bios or in the boot manager but as long you follow the steps it will work out.Last edited: Jul 27, 2016fray_bentos likes this. -
Regarding fan speeds alternating each 1-2 seconds. Does any Aero 14 owner NOT have the issue shown here?
The video shows alternating fan speed when manually selecting fan speed states below 60% (using the customized, fixed fan speed slider). I ask because Gigabyte have asked me to RMA the laptop to an engineer saying they could not reproduce this on their own test model. I don't want to RMA and be without a laptop for a substantial period of time if actually affects ALL of these laptops. -
I've heard of this issue before... allegedly, it could be fixed with a BIOS/firmware update of some sort if Gigabyte wanted to fix it. Not sure if that's correct or not.
How annoying is it? And does the laptop have any severe issues besides the fan revving? -
Most of the time reading the web, office etc the fans are off in the "quiet mode" and the machine is indeed silent. However, the fan revving does get annoying under more moderate loads in quiet environments. It will only be fixable in BIOS or software if a) it isn't a hardware fault limited to a few machines, and b) Gigabyte acknowledge the problem. No other issues, when gaming the CPU and GPU is about 70 C with fans on 60%, the highest I have seen in benchmarks has been 75 C as the fans ramp up to 65-70% to cool it all down (ambient temps of 20-22 C).

Is there a chance that such revving could damage the hardware in the long run?

Well, there's a new review up here: http://www.notebookreview.com/notebookreview/gigabyte-aero-14-review/
But it's pretty basic... -
So I just got mine today... and whenever I try to plug it in, it says "Plugged in, not charging." The battery LED light does not turn on. It runs off of the battery fine, and runs off of AC power fine, but it seems like the battery itself doesn't charge... any ideas to fix this, or did I get a lemon? I'm really worried...
(I'm particularly scared because the LED light doesn't turn on, suggesting this might not be a software issue.)Last edited: Aug 9, 2016 -
It can be that it doesnt charge above 95% because often laptops run from 100% to 95% and under 95% start charging again to preserve battery health. If it doesnt change at lets say for example 60% than there is certaintly something wrong.
-
The battery is at 60% :/
Also, occasionally the battery briefly reports "fully charged."
I really hope I don't have to RMA my brand new computer... I literally got it less than 2 hours ago. -
DOnt RMA it, return it and ask for a new proper model. A laptop should not come with issues like that
-
I'm worried it is defective from the factory. So yeah, if there's no fix I might return it and buy the Asus GL502 or some other model of portable 970M laptop. (My local Best Buy has a good deal on the GL502...)
I've heard of fixes involving the Windows drivers, but the LED tells me something more serious might be going on. I'm leaving the laptop plugged in right now to see if the percentage goes up at all. -
The percentage has not risen at all since I plugged it in.
-
I have yet to see a laptop not charging due to windows. Charging is handled by the bios etc not by windows.
-
There are no settings in the BIOS related to the battery, so I guess whatever is wrong is likely a defect.
-
I am quite sure its a defect.
-
anyone got the internal picture of heatsink?
-
Its the same heatsink as the p34W v5/ In fact I think the whole motherboard is pretty much the same one, hence the lack of TB3 while offering an USB-C port.
-
At this point. I would advise holding off on buying this or any other laptop for gaming. GTX-1060 unit will be shipping from most manufacturer within a month. I'm sure we'll see a V1 refresh soon. This may in fact be the reason that the current model is only available from Egg.

I second this. Kind of amazing how fast NBs are picking up to desktop performance these days. I had a HD7970 on my desktop from 2013 which got caught up by my P34W v3 in 2015. Now my R9 290 in 2015 is gonna be outpaced by the 1060 in a few weeks lol
-
I must concur, wait for GTX 1060, reports of it being 50-70% faster than the 970M.
-
1060(M) is ~15-25% faster than the 980M and ~35-45% faster than a 970M.
Unfortunately the laptop variant of the 1060 has a 10W higher TDP than the 970M. Lets hope Gigabyte will finally update their cooling solution with bigger (but slower) fans and 3 instead of 2 heatpipes.
I wouldn't mind 2mm and ~100g more in thickness and weight if this results in a cooler and less noisy notebook.

So Gigabyte announced GTX 10X0 for their laptops, P35 and P37. No mention of the Aero
http://www.notebookcheck.net/Gigabyte-P35-P37-receive-NVIDIA-Pascal-graphics.171651.0.html -
The laptop I'm waiting for has either a 1050 or 1060 and a TB3 port. That's it.

I dont care what he says, I would buy this model if only I can find it in the US. But still no go, I will just keep my current laptop for another year. oh well, their lose.
-
Guess what, current model won't get sold at all in mainland europe. We'll have to wait til November/December when v2 with a GTX 1060 gets released.
-
Not sold there and its nowhere to be found here (US), so no much difference.
This would have been perfect for me about 9 months ago or even now cuz of the big battery, and the green color also. -
Looks like there's an Aero with a 1060
https://mobile.twitter.com/Dave2Dtv/status/767839429201231873 -
I'll buy that. Screw Linus. @GIGABYTE Laptop where/when can get get the Aero 1060?!
-
the linus video got me interested.
I can live with all the trade offs for SD slot, way better in body temps, longer battery life (the blade battery life is actually really impressive), matte screen with 1440P.
So long this new model has thunderbolt 3, this has serious potential -
It's blowing my mind that people are selling laptops without tb3. Get with it, please! Otherwise maybe we need to wait for kaby lake.

I didnt see the whole video yet, but right at the start you can see that the screen wobbles like crazy when he touches the table its sitting on. Im happy about the new version with GTX 1060, but it they do not fix this i cant buy it. Absolute deal breaker for me.
-
Agreed... you can see the screen wobbling throughout the entire video. And it's not like Linus is shaking the table that much either. Any Aero owners care to comment on how this affects day to day use?
-
True but he never moaned at it. I think it wobbles because it doesn't have a firm screen. It's quite flexible hence the wobble. It did sit firm at the hinge despite that. Maybe the could tighten it more but it wouldn't totally get rid of the wobble. But it is an aero model lol. I think the aorus x3 screen is similar too where as the p34w is a lot stiffer and material casing resulting in minimal wobble

Whilst looking for info on a new 1060 version, I came across this charmingly wonky slide from a GIGABYTE presentation (and no info). Something doesn't look quite right...
-
Hahaha HD only 720x480? Wasnt it 1280x720? Those comparisons are strange as well.
-
I think the screen wobble may be down to a wobbly table and/or other causes, Linus is not one to not talk about something so obvious if it was a problem
-
It isn't. It's documented as a major issue in this very thread. Linus is a pretty terrible laptop reviewer also, imo.
-
I have seen conflicting statements in regards to the hinge wobble and many people have said that it isn't as bad as it looks in the video.. Like at all, I have also heard there is some wobble.. If somebody posted a video proving the wobble whilst typing i'd believe it more and may consider another laptop.
-
I am actually really happy that the screen doesn't wobble when typing.. A wobble when moving it around or moving the screen isn't a deal breaker for me. -
Keep convincing yourself. In the end, you're the only one who needs to be happy with their purchase.
-
I appreciate your input to a degree, but saying "keep convincing yourself"... That is a term that one uses when they believe they are right but the other person isn't listening.
It's not that simple, there is no other laptop on the market that offers the mixture of performance vs battery life as this.. and especially not in the UK.
There are plenty of statements in this post saying that the hinge is rock solid when being used.. I'm not an idiot and i understand the trade-offs..
The lack of TB3 isn't a huge deal right now, most people wouldn't even have a use for USB-C let alone thunderbolt (yet). Gadgets with USB-C are few and far between and the only reason anyone would use one right now is for charging their new phone. Thunderbolt displays are a rarity also.
When you consider any laptop all you try to do is convince yourself you are making the right purchase, that is what this forum is for.. Not for everyone to recommend a Cevlo or a refurbished dell business class latitude. -
Honestly, I think it's sold out of stock everywhere anyway, so if you want to buy one, you'll have to wait for the v2. Hopefully that will have both the 1060 and fix the remaining issues.
-
The UK still has good stock, these are the first 2 websites i checked
A 1060 would be nice, but i've not seen a 1060 laptop that lasts more than 3 hours for light office use as of yet.. and that would be more than a deal breaker for me.
