Wow, I'm liking what I see. Looks too good to be true. I'm sure there has to be a problem with the screen quality, cooling performance, throttling, fan noise, or trackpad. There has to be something wrong.

 

Well they omitted thunderbolt from this but not the P35K, that's the only thing that sticks out in terms of shortcomings.

 

Anyone have an estimate for how long battery life should last, assuming just light web browsing?

 

assume a power consumption of 13wh when idle, lets put 15wh given that no flash is involved nor video watching 43/15 = 2.86h

Damn that's a real bummer. That's a potential deal breaker right there. If it was possible to squeeze out at least 4 hours I'd definitely buy this in a heartbeat.

 

its is, Im not considering this notebook for nothing, if its cheap enough, I might recommend for people that despite buying an ultraportable dont need battery life (do they exist?)

 

I believe 4 hours should be expected on this machine and quite possibly towards the 5 hour area. My gigabyte u2442 is what I believe to be the predecessor of this P34G due to the striking similarity in the chassis, port layouts, dual fan design, and the unique 2nd HDD bay in something so thin. I also read a quick hands on review and it mentioned the screen is a TN screen for this laptop.

I get about 3.5-4 hrs doing light web browsing and I have the ivy bridge i5-3210m + GT640m combo (47.7Whr battery). Seeing all the Haswell numbers and benchmarks I'm assuming we should see a decent increase over IB

 

TN screen huh? Damn, was really hoping for an IPS. If it does indeed get at least 4 hours out of real world use, and the screen is decent, then I'll still consider this laptop. For the time being, I'm awaiting more info on the Acer v7!

 

Any news / price on this lappy? It seems to be in a class of it own..

Cool link.. hadn't seen that video before. Pricing seems very competitive. Late July / August sooo far away though!! Tossing up between this and the Clevo W230ST... Availability could play a big factor for me.

 

What are the chances this releases in the U.S. this summer? I'm not very familiar with Gigabyte, where are they usually sold?

It looks beautiful and would definitely suit my needs. I would buy this in a heartbeat, so slick and great performance. Hopefully battery life turns out to be decent.

Pricing and design could see a lot of people picking this laptop up IMO. For size it's unmatched by anything in the market.

One thing I'd caution against is assuming that the low-price version will match any of the specs of the revealed one. Some of the U2442s had 640M, some 650M, and some 730M (rebadged 640M). The 650M ones were the higher price ones, so I assume the 760M ones will be in this case as well.

I wonder if the cheaper ones will come with 730M or 740M? And of course an i5.

Oddly enough, it's impossible to find some U2442 models with a second hard drive... and impossible to find some others without it. Strange distribution methods.

 

Still seems like this isn't worth it because of the predicted weak battery life. The U24F seems better

 

Battery life is around 4 hours not gaming of course. If true that's acceptable for me.

 

Anyone see more info on this anywhere? Price? Availability? I have seen nothing yet, but am really interested. Seem like a budget razer blade 14 with likely a better screen, but slightly lower GPU.

Edit - didn't realize it would be late July to August before it starts selling. Maybe I should read the thread next time....

I haven't heard much on it other than the late July to August date. There's only 3-4 YouTube videos I can find for it too. I've been debating about purchasing this or the blade 14". Does anyone know how the P34G will stack up compared to the RB14? I'm nervous to pull the trigger on the blade 14" due to bad QA with the backlit keyboard, grounding issues, and display complaints. Any thoughts?

 

As far as I read the screen on the blade isn't good. I am also curious about the Clevo W230ST.

sadly its possible they mean 999 for the lower end version which may not even feature a gtx760. Oh well. Anyways this video really did the design justice it looks so nice and if it does only end up with a 4 hour battery life that's fine with me

 

This notebook looks very interesting.. if it just would be sure to get the IPS 14" FHD screen like with the Lenovo T440s and the Clevo w740su. Does anybody have some secured informations about that? Gigabyte itself doesn´t mention it anywhere to be IPS. But certain websites do. I have high hopes to get the IPS version since I do not know any FHD 14" panels without IPS.

 

I think I've seen only one site mentioning a 14'' IPS, but all of them are saying the IPS is the 15''...so it would be weird that the you forget to mention the 14'' is too.
I will most likely not be an IPS. Just for the 15''.

 

From what I've heard it's only the 15" that will receive an ips screen.

 

I really wish manufacturers would give us more of a clue when things are going to release or other pertinent info. It really behooves them to do that so I don't go out and buy the competition instead. Example... I am considering the Clevo/sager 13.3 in laptop that was just released too.

Man! I was planning on buying a laptop at the beginning of August and thought I had settled on the Clevo W740SU from Mythlogic. Now I have to wait till the beginning of September to see if this really launches, because if I buy the Clevo at the beginning of August and this launches in September, I will be very upset with myself, because this looks to be the better laptop in nearly every way (I'd rather have the Clevo's touchpad and the Clevo is confirmed to have a 1080p IPS display).

 

I'm thinking the same haha The msi ge40 was a real let down, I'm waiting for some reviews on the clevo w230st, but to be frank, I'm thinking the gigabytes (yea even the 15'') are more portable and better built.
Any word on the launch date for europe?

900p is a much better resoution for the 760M. Sure, 1080p is better but most games will need to be run at a lower res for >30 fps with high detail. I just pray the 900p display isn't complete crap like the GE40 and Razer blade.

 

Where have you een it has a 900p display? I only find 1080p.

 

I don't believe they used 1080p for this pre-release models. I was watching youtube and only 1(!) reviewer clicked into the system settings to check the panel and it was 1600x900. I'm still believing the version with 1080p will be an IPS, too. Like the ones from Lenovo, Clevo, Alienware.

I think there´s a difference between the spec sheet of gigabyte and the units they showed at the show-booth. Well, after all it´s just MY speculation.

Now I saw it, but I think it's no big deal, I mean, it was practically a prototype and on the website it's advertised 1080p.
I'm more worried about the quality though.
And the release date is killing me, I don't know how long I'm gonna last haha W230st is already out, and the w740su seems nice also. Just waiting for some reviews to start popping up.

I wonder if changing the panel is too complicated? Never seen/done/read anything about it, but now people seem to be considering it for some notebooks and these panels seem more than ok (both 13.3'' IPS):

The very first post of this thread mentions 900p and 1080p screens. Sounds like a valid upgrade path to me especially if they are saying the base model is $999. Base model = 900p, 4GB RAM, 760M, 128GB SSD. That's still a good deal at $1000 bucks plus I'm personally not a fan of 1080p on anything smaller than 15". I refuse to run my games at non-native resolutions and no lower than medium settings so 900p it is for me.

I've read contradicting info on the screen. One source that reviewed it at computex mentioned both the 14" and 15" will have 1080p IPS and most others say only the 15" will have an IPS screen. Another place said Gigabyte was still considering putting an IPS in the 14". I think the $999 price tag sounds right BUT not for the 1080p panel. Will try to track down those articles.

I was looking forward to Clevo W230ST, but then I saw this and... Oh my god.
If I can get the basic configuration (900p, 128GB mSATA SSD, empty SATA bay, 760M, 4GB RAM) for around 1000$, I'll buy this at one breath.
Don't care much about screen quality cause I'm 100% sure any 900p panel would be better than what I have now on my Dell Vostro 3450...

 

Well, the quality of the 1080p screen is above average (I'd even say: very good!). It's just the brightness, which is not very high. Well, maybe others can "adjust" it higher. AUO says it can make 300nit.
