I thought of ordering from them, but they delayed shipment date from October 1 to October 7, so I decided not to wait and ordered from ExCaliberPC.
-
-
Excalibur is now backordered. -
Yeah, I just called them about 15 minutes ago and they say P34G will be available next week and I'm in the 2nd place in the waiting list.
-
Yeah, that was the other reason I decided to just stay with Xotic. Not only do I know their support is good, from experience, I figured with my luck I would go over to Excaliber and they would be out of the 1st batch.
-
-
Ok, here's my problem: I must have my laptop in San Diego before 15th october.. Is that possible? Where from should i order? Excalibur, xoticpc, or dynamism? What do you suggest?
-
I made the first batch.
Order picked, ready to be packed
Description: You order is complete and ready to be packaged. If you see this status before 4:30pm Pacific Standard Time, most likely your order will be picked up by the shipping company and a tracking number entered when the order is shipped.
Instruction: Your order will be shipped either today or the next business day depending on the time of day your order is packaged. Please check your status after 7pm Pacific Standard Time for an update on your order. -
Pick up the phone, call each of them, speak to someone directly and ask.
-
Yeah, that would be great, but i'm in Europe at the moment... I missed first batch on excalibur
-
Looks like Anandtech is going to release a review next week. Here are their first impressions:
AnandTech | Gigabyte P34G First Impressions: A Thin and Light Gaming Notebook -
LOL at the comment where the guy says he loses all interest because it has a VGA port. Kind of like, "hey this is an awesome system, oh weight is that a VGA port? Nope can't do it!"HairyCube likes this.
-
Timing is everything I guess. I went from "In process" to 'In process, payment received" to "Order picked, ready to be packed" to "Order shipped, tracking number entered" in the span of 11:20 a.m. PDT to 16:40 p.m. this afternoon. Should have my unit tomorrow, Thursday latest via FedEx Ground. Will check the tracking # after 7:00 p.m. PDT this evening per Excaliber's instructions and see where I'm at. Good call on nuking Xotic and flipping to Excaliber, at least for me so far.
-
You can't return anything to ExcaliberPC without restocking fee if you just don't like the laptop. For instance it might have crappy speakers or it might be hot as hell or might have a dead pixel. And then you would regret that you bought it.
XoticPC is much better here. Worth waiting for me
-
How is the stock wifi on p34g? Nobody answered..
-
I've read everything I need to know regarding the preceding.
-
I bought mine from MSY, it was $50 cheaper than Affordablelaptops and they have an actual shop so I din't have to wait for shipping.
Here's the result from DiskMark.
I have undervolted my CPU by 105mV, I've done a 5 minute stress test of 100% CPU load in Intel XTU and the max temp reached was 84 degrees. I'll look into Prime95 or Linpack and get back to you.
It's an Intel(R) Wireless-N 7260 -
after a crazy afternoon with excaliberpc, my laptop is on the way and I'll have it Thursday
-
Just ran Prime95 on In-Place large FFTs, sorry I won't be able to let it run for an hour or longer however I did 21 tests in 22 minutes and the CPU temp was on 87 degrees most of the time with the highest being recorded as 90 degrees. CPU was on 3 GHz throughout the test whereas it should be doing 3.2 GHz with all four cores active so I'm not sure if this is throttling.
Edit: This was with the CPU under volted by 100mV.johannes140 likes this. -
Are you sure that default Network card is Wireless-N 7260 AC? Xotic PC tells that it is: "Built-in Single Band Wireless 802.11B/G/N - Stock Wireless Card + Bluetooth 4.0"
-
He said Intel Wireless-N 7260, not Intel Dual Band Wireless-AC 7260. There are two different 7260 cards (for whatever reason).
-
Quick question: does the RAM and msata have some form of warranty sticker on it, or can you get away with changing msata and ram without (detectably) voiding your warranty?
-
It reached 90 degrees while it was undervolted? Dang... That seems pretty high IMO. Did you feel any heat on the keyboard, touchpad, or palm rests?
-
Is it possible to set a 2ghz low voltage profile? I can't see myself needing more than that on the move (and disable the nvidia chip) HD4000 and 2GHz should do fine, heck I could probably get away with 1.5ghz for doing documents and browsing.
-
That is very scary. I remember having this problem with the W230ST reaching 95-99c stock, it needed to be undervolted or to use a 4702 cpu to lower the temps or use a cooler or props. I wonder how high the cpu temps on the p34g when taxing it together with the gpu benchmarking/gaming when stock and not undervolted since he said he is still reaching 90c temps when already undervolted.
-
The RAM is user replaceable, but to get to the mSATA you'd need to remove the entire under side so I'm not sure if it affects the warranty. But from what I've read I believe you can get away with it.
There's an empty bay for hdd under my right palm and a battery under the left and touchpad so it always stays cool. The only place which gets slightly warm is near the top underside of the laptop. So as long as the laptop's on a desk you wouldn't feel any heat, it all gets pushed out the back.
Yes, you could use Intel Extreme Tuning Utility to limit the CPU to 2GHz and I believe the GeForce does not kick in as long as it's not needed, so the browsers definitely run off of the integrated graphics card. I managed to get 4 hours of battery yesterday on light/med usage.
Will report back with how much I get on the current charge cycle.
I have the brightness down to 20% (and it is perfect to my eyes, not very dim at all), power plan set to power saver, CPU under volt by 100mV, keyboard backlight set to auto so the light sensor is active (not sure how power hungry that is), will be using Chrome for most of the time so let's see how it goes. -
Just another question about ordering one of these: has anyone managed to find a shop in europe where it's available? Or maybe anyone who had it shipped to europe (belgium) from one of the shops in the US (dynamism, xotic, excaliber)?
-
Yup, my tracking #'s showing it's in Sacramento, set to arrive tomorrow. Joking with my assistant we should do an unboxing video and put it on YouTube. She can't believe we're nerdy enough to do this stuff and I said "Oh yeah, people do it all the time." Told her to go search "ThinkPad X1 Carbon Unboxing" and she lost her mind when she saw how many videos and views there were, couldn't believe we're THAT geeky.
-
Thought OCUK had it?
-
Well you'd be the first one from what I've seen. Not a great deal of real-world info out there on the p34g yet. Thankfully we have a few members feeding us some great info (thanks guys). I was surprised to see Anandtech get one in for review and actually have it ready soon. They are my preferred tech-review website if I had to choose.
-
Anyone have any luck from xotic yet? Mine's still sitting in pending parts.
Sent from my SGH-M919 using Tapatalk 2 -
The Wireless-N 7260 is still dual-band (2.4GHz + 5GHz), which would contradict what Xotic has listed.
-
Mine says on vehicle, out for delivery.
Of course I'm so freakin busy right now I probably won't even get to open the box today at all! -
I think there were some in stock in germany: Gigabyte P34G, Core i7-4700HQ, 8GB RAM, 878GB, Windows 8 (GA-P34G) Preisvergleich | Geizhals Deutschland
But I think it would be cheaper from xotic, and we can upgrade it. -
You may have been the person who got my laptop. I called them to discuss shipping and they said to order in the next 30 mins. So I ordered it right away, but used Amazon payment and somehow it got held up before they released it. They then called and had to cancel my order as they didn't have any left, then they called back and said they had another one and could ship it out. I cancelled xotic to excaliber, then back to xotic, and then finally back to excaliber.
-
Or I might have stolen your laptop. Mine is in Sacramento too right now. I ordered it yesterday and payed with credit. Hope to get it by the end of the week.
Btw, Dynamism delayed first shipment date from Oct 7 to Oct 14 now. -
How are the Xotic folks doing? Anybody moved beyond "Pending Parts or Item Arrival" yet?
-
Sorry if this has been covered already but I want to be absolutely sure:
There is no way to get one of these with 802.11ac support?
a/b/g/n only?
What a bummer. -
-
Yes. "Intel® Dual Band AC 7260 802.11 A/AC/B/G/N 2.4/5.0GHz + Bluetooth 4.0 / WiDi | Up to 300/867Mbps (2x2) (SKU - WIFI04) ( + 36 )"
-
Yeah, I just checked and one of the options is what you just posted.
-
Just remember if you add that, get your order rushed, adding anything to your laptop on xoticpc will postpone shipment for 9-16 days while they assemble your laptop.
-
That's great news, thanks guys.
-
Can get 'em right now from NewEgg and CDW for $28.99 with free shipping.
-
I wouldn't recommend installing them yourself, you could void your warranty.
-
Again, well aware. Multiple admonishments from at least two others besides yourself in this thread regarding warranty. However, beyond some serious flaw with the machine, a decision that savvy individuals can make for themselves fully conscious of this aspect.

heres an email I got from Dynamism:
Oct 1 (1 day ago)
to sales
Dear Customer,
We had hoped to be emailing you with the tracking number for your order of the Gigabyte P34G. Unfortunately, that is not the case. We are happy to report that our first shipment is en route to us from the manufacturer and your order is scheduled to ship in 3-4 days. Once shipped, we will email you a FedEx tracking number and shipment confirmation. Please let us know if there is anything else we can do for you.
Thank you again!
Dynamism Sales
(btw please note the lead time on our site is October 14th, but this is for our second shipment. Your order will be fulfilled from our first shipment) -
Woohoo, received and unpacked. First impressions, nice build quality, coming from a 4 year old Sony Vaio, so maybe not that surprising. I've messed around with Macbooks etc, and honestly, the build on this is just fine and much better than my Sony. Keyboard is good, I'm just flying on it right now. Screen is decent, if you look for it you might notice grain on bright white backgrounds, but I prefer it to staring at my reflection and everything else in the room with me. Things seem to kind of go darker as you move your viewing angle out, but color remains good. Glad I've got good eyes because text is tiny on this screen, probably going to have to mess with font size etc. Sound is not too good, haven't tested headphone jack yet. Fans seem kind of loud, it's plugged in and not doing much right now, will have to look at whatever power mode it's in. Barely have time to do anything with it right now, too busy.
-
Gentechpc also has the P34G in stock at the moment for anyone still looking to buy. They don't have as many options as Xoticpc for customization but they don't charge you for certain options like thermal paste.
-
Yup, placed an order with them yesterday.
Confirmed with 'Ken' over the phone that they have it in stock prior to ordering.
Even with the free options like '30 day no dead pixel guarantee' and 'IC Diamond compound thermal past' for FREE, I just kept it stock since I want it sooner.
Customizations will only drag on the production, considering that I'm shipping to Canada with UPS Standard. It is much cheaper than the express options, and going to self-clear the purchase at my local CBSA rather than pay for UPS ridiculous brokerage. Trade-offs...
Wire transfer saves me 3%, however more than half of that gets eaten from the fees, so Canadians should expect like 1% discount on this purchase (roughly similar to most CC point reward systems). Something to consider since you have to be present at the bank, wait, fill out forms etc.
