Because I also have issues with the 980m failing 3DMark and unigine testing. Only way to get it past is to use oem drivers that came with the laptop.
This was talked about many pages back. If it wasn't for the 980m failing I probably could live with the WiFi since I ordered the Killer 1525 AC module from gentechpc and 3k reso.
Plus I don't like the temps and having to UV.

I've replaced my thermal paste with AC5. and my idle temps are 50 degrees Celcius for the CPU...Is this normal?

What? No no no I mean it doesn't have the issue on the Samsung. I couldn't open the Samsung up to get to it though. I'll have to buy a replacement for the laptop.

Can you explain a bit more what you mean by failing? When you try to run 3DMark it crashes? Or the score is very low compared to others with same laptop? -
@Cakefish.
So, I tried to do some digging into this bluetooth issue you're having. I'd set my p35x up differently as I've got PS3 controllers I want to use with it. To cut a long story short I've got an asus BT dongle and the internal intel facility as well. The PS3 thing works really well, very pleased with it.
Anyway, I blew all that away, got shut of the asus dongle and reinstalled the previous drivers for the dedicated BT facility. Then I dug out my windows phone, paired it with the p35x. I ran speedtest beforehand. Then I transferred a 30MB file from my laptop to my phone. The file transfer speed was around 35KB/sec - no idea if that's slow or not - seemed slow to me, but maybe that's just bluetooth. Whilst that was transferring, I re-ran the speedtest. 1st speedtest came in at circa 80Mb/sec downstream. 2nd speedtest came in over 90. It's highly variable thanks to Virgin Media, but bottom line is that the BT xfer didn't seem to interfere with the wi-fi. I'm running on 5Ghz and have an AC router.
I've not tried streaming music (strangely - only had file xfer as an option?).
I'll reinstall my PS3 drivers now
-
Crashes on start up. I'm out on the road, so you can check my previous post to find out the exact error code but based on research it's either driver issue or a bad card. The only way I get get it to past is to use oem drivers that came with the laptop. I've waste a week of trying to get it to work properly and I'm tired of it. I shouldn't need to put this much effort to get something to work properly out of the box.

So... hardware fault confirmed then? Damn. That's what I was afraid of (glad to hear it works for you though).
Edit: though I'm only connected via 2.4GHz.

Definitely possible. Here's a list of BSOD codes related to overclocking. The one to watch out for ix 0x124, which relates to not enough core voltage, exactly what would happen if you undervolted too much. (and is the same code I get if I undervolt my 4900MQ too much)
Yeah the AC7260 has been pretty buggy, which is why I specifically avoided the newer AC tech and opted for the N-6235 instead. However what you're describing with WiFi and Bluetooth battling each other is very normal, it's the exact same thing for me -- if I use a Bluetooth speaker, my WiFi speeds tank. What I think is happening is that the Bluetooth and WiFi signals go through the same chip, so you only have so much bandwidth allocated to each. Sadly it seems these Bluetooth/WiFi combo cards were never properly designed to sustain both Bluetooth and WiFi running at 100%, it's either one or the other, or 50/50 on both it seems.
I just want to point out that the reason the P35X runs cooler with the CPU is because Gigabyte lowered the throttling temp to 90 (or 91C). Intel's default is 95C, and my experience has been that's simply far too close to the thermal shutdown temp, so it results in those scary max temps spikes you see.DelFang likes this. -
I just tried a YouTube video whilst connected to Bluetooth speakers. It wouldn't stream at all. Disabled Bluetooth and bam; it streamed at 1080p no trouble.
It is a hardware fault indeed. I can't live with this. My Clevo and my Samsung could do this no trouble. I can't live with a laptop that can't steam online videos whilst connected to Bluetooth speakers... or which cause Bluetooth mice to lag all over the place.

I'd simply RMA without mentioning the repaste as it's not relevant, just tell them about your wifi/bluetooth issue. The vendor or Gigabyte should be able to either replace the bluetooth or send you a replacement P35x. -
Did you guys skip over my post lol? I have the exact same problem if I use a Bluetooth speaker with my N-6235 WiFi card, it simply sucks all the bandwidth away from the WiFi and tanks it. I don't think it's a hardware fault in the sense that you received a defective product, more that it's a design flaw because it doesn't have the bandwidth to handle both WiFi and Bluetooth at 100%.
FWIW less intensive Bluetooth use (such as communicating with my phone) does not result in dropped WiFi speeds, which is why I'm even more suspicious this is simply be design and not faulty hardware.sparkle999 likes this. -

Hmm...I'd still RMA and if the replacement has the same issue, I'd keep sending it back until they provide one that works properly. -
Replacement unit I think... or a straight refund.
Oh... but, wait, how come both my Clevo (Killer N-1202) and my Samsung (Intel N-6235) could handle streaming videos whilst connected to Bluetooth speakers but my Gigabyte can't?
Sent from my Nexus 5 -
Hmm here's an idea. Try swapping out the AC7260 in your Gigabyte for the N-6235 in your Clevo, and see if you have the same issues. If no then ok it's the AC7260, if yes then it's something wrong with the Gigabyte.
As for why I have absolutely no idea now that you mention your N-6235 seemed to work perfectly fine, whereas mine the speeds just tanked like crazy. -
Wow, I am super impressed. Note I am not great at repasting, I've done it a few times but usually just once per machine.
Results before and after re-paste. Same install, same setup, same placement of notebook roughly an hour apart. For all tests I had it elevated on a cooling pad with no external fans. I tried to keep the tests the same but realize there could be small inconsistencies (like idle time between or before anod after tests). I analyzed the csv files the best I could (manually). With undervolting CPU and overcloking GPU I think I can go a lot further now. My repaste appeared to help my CPU a lot but nothing noticable on my GPU, other than since the heatpipes are linked it should allow my GPU to run better. I'm happy that the CPU temps dropped a bunch which increased my 3dmark scores alone, but also should allow better clocks during games.

I've done some hardcore driver testing/tweaking. The connection of 54mb/sec was dropping down to ~5mb/sec or under when Bluetooth speakers were connected. This did not occur on my Samsung's N-6235,which stayed nearly rock solid.
However. I have now manged to get videos to stream via youtube at the same time the Bluetooth speakers are connected. It has not dropped below 36mb/sec. I think I'm onto something here.

Must make P35xV3 work through unscientific random testing. (My *ss & elbow are as one.) -
Add in I probably have a bad 980m.
I believe I read on NBR their was overheating and throttling.
I'll say this if it wasn't for my possible bad 980m, I would of stuck with the P35X and my WiFi issue by using the Killer 1525 AC or asking for a replacement module. While i didnt like 3k due to W8.1 Pro bad 200% scaling, the screen was gorgeous and didn't have any dead or stuck pixels. Everything look very crisp in native resolution.
If you mind repasting and maybe UV'N the CPU then it's worth getting. If you don't want to do all that then consider something like the GS60.

If you order from certain resellers like XoticPC, they can put ICDiamond repaste on it for $35.
Even without repaste or undervolting, the performance is going to smoke GS60 970m. -
It would only be fair to compare with P35W.

I had planned on getting the ICDiamond repaste, so even if I don't make any other changes to it it'll still be worth it compared to the GS60? How about the new Clevo that you had linked in my thread: https://www.mythlogic.com/2013_Models/dia1614.php? Would the Clevo be better to get than the GS60?

Alright, looks like I know what I'm getting then. Hopefully this works out, if not I'll return it and get the Clevo with the 980M. Are you still going to order the P35x v3 or are you indecisive now due to the issues some guys are having with it?

Preliminary analysis (the fancy way of saying playing around with it a bit) has seemingly suggested I have fixed my issues regarding Bluetooth/WiFi using specific driver combinations.
17.0.6.1 for the WiFi & 17.1.1403.438 for the Bluetooth.
Both Bluetooth mouse lag and the issue with Bluetooth/WiFi interference seem to be fixed.
I have to keep playing around with it to know for sure though...

Based on your track record, this might remain valid for 24hrs at best. I know, I'm cynical, but I can only judge based on the problems & solutions you post from past experience. (this was the basis of my *ss & elbow comment before, gees I'm tetchy!) Serisously, my advice to you is to test stuff thoroughly and THEN to post it! It cuts a lot of hassle & misinformation! -
I currently have this laptop and I love it. I haven't had any driver issues or scaling difficulties. Albeit, this was after tweaking some programs and such, but that is usually the case with ANY new PC. With macs they hand you everything all nice and wipe up your butt while they're at it, but you pay for it.
Nonetheless, I am also ordering the Clevo p650. This laptop is for me and the clevo is for my brother, and we will be keeping both, so I'll be able to answer some questions about the laptops directly with both of them right in front of me

I think I remember the older models of the msi gs60 ghost having some issues with the ac 7260 cards? However I had a razer blade 14 with the same card in it as the p35x/w , the 7260 and it worked perfectly while online gaming and using a Bluetooth headset. Never looked at the speeds while both were active but I never noticed any lag or other issues. Wonder if its just a matter of what kind of router your using or a driver issue maybe?
I also had a msi gs60 ghost pro 064 which I returned due to poor battery life, it had the bigfoot network killerac-1525 in it and I couldn't get it to locate by headset for Bluetooth so I had to use the usb receiver instead -

Is the wifi adapter the only reason that's forcing you to return it....?or do you several other complaints...from what I understand from skimming through the forum is that I may face some minor issues, but nothing very serious.....I just plan to do a repaste (got my hands on the cooler master xtreme fusion X1, 9.5 W/m-K conductivity, been working incredibly with my old Lenovo y560 for the past 2-3 years), after testing it out for a couple of months, and then only play with undervolting. I have a notepal U2 (bought about 4 years ago, still running awesome).....please correct me if i am wrong.
-
You could always go with a Killer 1525 AC on the P35X using a m2 to m-pcie adapter since the Killer 1525 is m2 while the P35X uses the m-pcie for the wifi module slot.

@Cakefish: I forgot to mention to use only 17.0.6.... as the newer ones are proven to have issues. My previous laptop ran 16.8.1 and that worked too. I havent tried bluetooth as I havent needed it.
Here's a stream test with the AC 7260, nvidia shadowplay at 720p, bitrate 4.0mbps, 60fps recording (ingame FPS counter reads 100+ fps at all times): Link here-> Twitch
Despite the ugly mug, feel free to enjoy the wonders of this laptop.
Interestingly, the temperatures only hit 78C on CPU and 64C on GPU during this run. Game isn't very demanding, but the stream quality is just testing for latency issues if my card is defunct or not.

I tested it this morning and wanted to cry as I saw the exact same problem occur. However, I noticed that windows then was complaining about a code 14 error where some sort of WiFi direct could not be started until reboot. It then took 10 minutes of 'adding features' before it's ready. I'll test again and see what happens... please, please work *touches wood*
EDIT: still not working. Robbo, you were right
I'm tired of this. I don't know what I'm going to do now. I realise that this is an an isolated case but... I don't know. I really do love lots of what this laptop has to offer, a ton of it. But I also think I've been scared by realising how fragile it is (chipping the aluminium surface by dropping a USB cable from about 3-4 inches). A part of me just really wants to try out the Clevo P650 to see what it is like, out of curiosity. But, the issue I have with that laptop is that it is only available before Christmas with the 7260 in the config that I would desire. There are options for 7265/3160/1202 but those only have a glossy 4K screen. Dare I risk another repeat of this horror story with the 7260? Or is this likely a hardware fault? I'm guessing the latter as no one else in this thread has been experiencing these issues. -
I would definitely ask OCUK for a replacement. And if the replacement turn out to be also have the same problems, then get the refund and buy the P650 or whatever. Chances are, it will be available to purchase by the time you decide to return the replacement.
Regards -
Seeing as I am still within my 14 day window to return to OC UK for a refund, I think I'm going to do that. Not to say I haven't really enjoyed this laptop (WiFi/Bluetooth issues aside), but the fact that I was able to chip the surface by just dropping a USB from a few inches has me scared on the long-term durability of this anodized aluminum surface. I know Clevos are built like tanks as my P170SM has received no marks/scratches/dents of any kind whatsoever. And I have to say, I do miss having a fingerprint scanner!
I think my mind is pretty much made up now. I'll ask for a return & refund. In the meantime, I am lucky enough to have enough money to preorder a Clevo P650SG before the refund enters my bank. The ETA on the P650SG is the 25/11, so not long to wait in the grand scheme of things.
I hope this is the right decision!... -
I will use this wifi card: AzureWave AW-CE123H BCM94352HMB Half Mini PCI-e Wlan+BT Bluetooth Drahtlos Karte | eBay

Maybe another user want to try this card, -
Trying to help here... I uninstalled all of my bluetooth drivers, again. Then downloaded the current one from gigabyte via the utility. Latest versions are as follows:
Given n=1's comment about file xfer to a phone via bluetooth not really stretching the BT connection, I managed to get my hands on a pair of BT headphones and paired them to the laptop. Streamed some music (6MB mp3 file) to the headphones and ran speedtest simultaneously. Results of speedtest: speedtest result
Couple of points/questions:-
1. Are you streaming mp3 or flac? I assume mp3.
2. This was to/from an AC router @5Ghz, so not the same as your setup [excuse to upgrade your router?
]
3. Have you been able to try out n=1's suggestion:
It would be a shame to see you replace the ENTIRE LAPTOP just because a replaceable component may be causing you issues. Every single piece of complex technology I have ever owned has always required a lot of tinkering with until I've got it working how I want it - so getting a completely new machine will undoubtedly require the same time investment from you. You won't miss the 6 hour battery life and fabulous display until they are gone..! So if I were in your shoes I would push for OcUK to send you a replacement AC card so that you are not inconvenienced. Hope that helps. If you want me to try any other tests, just let me know and I'll do my best.
EDIT:- just seen your post above Cake... sounds like a plan - hope it goes well !Arthedes likes this. -
Sorry, I've just sent OC UK an email asking for a return/refund. I am still within my 14 day window where I can return it if the item is 'unwanted'. It is not only because of the issue regarding the wireless connectivity, but also due to the fragility of the anodized aluminium surface - being able to be visibly chipped (however small) when a USB cable is dropped from a few inches is not my idea of a durable finish. I am fearful of how it would hold up in future, whereas I know for a fact that Clevos are built like absolute tanks - my P170SM has nary a mark, scratch or dent on it. Plus, the Nexus 5 disconnect/reconnect issue on AC power vs battery power.
The great battery life I shall definitely miss, but the 3K matte screen is also an option on the P650SG. Although that laptop is slightly thicker than this one, it is still thinner than both my Clevo P170SM and my old Samsung. Plus, I really do miss having a fingerprint scanner.
I have not taken this decision lightly, but it felt like the right thing to do for my personal circumstances. This is not to say I haven't enjoyed my time with this model, far from that. It is a gorgeous design, with a fantastic display and great hardware (980M) - but I am too curious to try out the Clevo P650SG to pass the opportunity to return up. I want a laptop that is reasonably durable - by which I mean that the surface is not too easily damaged; my experience thus far with the Gigabyte has told me that even with my usually good standard of caring for my electronics, the P35X v3's anodized aluminium surface is quite susceptible to damage.
Of course, I will still have my laptop for a few days yet and will be happy to answer any questions about my experience with it. I'll stick around after I receive the P650SG to watch all your experiences with this laptop. I'm sure you will all have better luck than RXMO and I have had. It is a very nice model and I truly mean that. Just cannot pass an opportunity to try out a (highly likely) more durable option (in terms of surface finish) up.
Hope that makes sense
Thank you for trying to help though! To answer your questions:
1) MP3
2) I have N router (rented shared accommodation so it is up to landlord to replace, not under my control)
3) I cannot open my old Samsung up to retrieve the N-6235 as the screws have stripped and I do not feel like ripping it apart or sending it to a computer store just for that purpose. -

That's quite alright, I too regrettably posted whilst under the alcoholic influence a month or two ago; where I decided to have a raging rant about the prices of tech gadgets in the UK, VAT and the British government! It happens
As explained above, I have now requested a return/refund for the P35X v3 from OC UK. I intend to buy the Clevo P650SG - a bonus side effect of that decision is that cooling is likely to be a little better as it is a thicker chassis, though that wasn't the reason for my decision to return the P35X v3.
