From smart update,, Now I created a bootable USB and put the FD07 on it (the exe file) trying to start from it but its not working, any suggestions?
-
-
I'm not seeing that as an option in Smart Update
-
I guess it corrupted my boot folder, reinstalled windows damn it
-
Jean so you are using FD08 right now? (not 07? official is 07)

The Aorus 200W supply charges and runs the p35x just fine. I cannot get 3dmark to run yet though (fresh install, new error and haven't figured it out yet). If I get it to run tonight I will update this post. I updated video drivers but i get the same error.
*Update* It was just a intel driver setting. 3dmark runs the same, scores the same on the 200w supply. I am assuming it should allow an extra 20w for those wanting to overclock more.
Interestingly the 180w p35x supply doesn't work very good for the Aorus at all. SLI scores worse than a single card. I expected a small amount of throttling (10% less total power available) but it never ran right with SLI enabled. I never figured out what was happening but I am assuming it was heating up the supply so much it was underperforming even more than the 10% less.Last edited: Jan 1, 2015 -
Anyone notice any double letters when typing on the keyboard? Mine seems to do it every now and then particularly the space bar which will randomly double space at times. It doesnt seem to happen very often so its not really a huge deal but was wondering if it was just my keyboard or if others have the same issue. Also, i was able to even out my slightly wavy keyboard by removing the screw that is directly below the f key. Even if i barely tighten this screw it causes the keyboard to bend so had to just leave it out completely for a perfectly straight keyboard. So if anyone has noticed their keyboard is wavy maybe it will help with yours as well.

I've been using FD08 for at least a week. Are you guys having issues with it?
I got it from SmartUpdate. -

Yes bios FD08/F008 installed via smart update -
After I downloaded it from Smart Update and install it the computer stopped booting Windows, reinstalled Windows right now working fine on FD08, I guess it corrupted my boot file. My luck as usual
-
Guys what is your intel management engine driver version?
-
Owners, is there any keyboard flex or is it solid?
-
Flexes like a trampoline.
-
There is considerable keyboard flex, but something that you can fix. Anybody considering this laptop, I suggest read this thread to familiarize with you with its flaws.

I would be interested in reading how you think about fixing the keyboard
-
Is there a way to turn off the light sensor? I can uninstall the software but it reinstalls after I reboot
-
jeanjackstyle Notebook Evangelist
I think you can turn it off in smart manager
-
Yeh you can turn off Auto screen brightness and Auto Keyboard light through the Smart Manager
-
Just got my p35x.. hate this giant bezel but wondering is everyone else's laptop slightly bent at the bottom? If you look at it head on especially lifted up you can see that the bottom has flex happening all over... assuming this may be normal
-
This is what I did. Using your guide, I removed the bottom panel. Afterwards, I added one small washer to where the F and Enter screw holes are on the motherboard. Then, I carefully put the bottom panel back on, being careful not to cause the washers to be moved out of place, then slightly screwed the F and Enter holes in place using longer screws. I then screwed the rest of the bottom panels screws back in. Now, you will have to adjust with different screw lengths for the keyboard screw holes to find one that levels out your keyboard, but does not introduce too much flex. You must must must screw the bottom panel into place before adjusting the screws for the keyboard because the tension of the rest of secured bottom panel 100% affects the screw lengths needed to level out the keyboard.
I found that using screws slightly longer than the original for the far left and right along with two screws slightly longer than those for the F and Enter areas to give the best result. Your laptop may require different screw lengths. This will not perfectly level out the keyboard, but i find it more acceptable than the stock version. -
Simply removing the screw that was beneath the f key made my keyboard perfect, and it was considerably wavy with it in. Obviously this leaves a small hole in the bottom, but not a big deal, just another small vent hole. Only time you can see that it is out is if the keyboard backlight its on and you hold the laptop over your head so its not noticable, and dont have to worry about a washer shorting out your laptop.
-
I got one of those not conductive washers lol. maybe i'll take the screw out also.
-
Taking out the screw made the keyboard even, but now it has a bit more flex, because the screw isnt pulling the keyboard down against the mother board. The flex is minimal tho, and the keyboard is more comfortable to type on with the extra travel in the keystrokes.
* On another note, had the p35w v3 for over a month now and its still performing very well, couldn't be happier with it and still believe it is the best laptop in its class. -
quick question - where do I turn on the keyboard backlight ? for some reason it's either turned off or I didn't realize it doesn't exist (I hope it does)
Thanks !

In smart manager. Please have a look into it, it provides the control over almost all the features of the laptop (back-lit keyboard, sound, fans...)
-
You must have it set to auto in the smart manager, which turns off the keyboard backlight most of the time.
Same with the screen brightness, which dims itself if set to auto.

Sorry I haven't been able to get back to you guys before.
Anyway, my P35X v3-CF1 is completly dead now. I switched it off yesterday after playing Dota 2 for some hours, woke up this morning and it refused to boot. It's dead as dead can be: No lights, no nothing. The charger light is lit, but the battery should be full as well (as it was plugged into the wall during my gaming session yesterday).
I bought the laptop at Overclockers UK, because Gigabyte does not sell notebooks in my country. Because of this Gigabyte does not supply direct warrenty support to me...
Hence, I contacted Overclockers UK hoping they can help me as I now have a 1800GBP paperweight sitting on my desk....
Would I buy this notebook again or would I recommand it to others? I'm afraid not. There's too much wrong with this thing. Driver issues, (power) throtteling issues, stability issues etc. It's a complete powerhouse/beast/state of the art notebook with all features one could wish for, but it looks like it's just too much to pack into a tiny case like this.
Anyway, I hope Overclockers UK gets back to me with some good news, because I'm dead in the water right now -

Thin & light = more dicey with high end components! (Get that warranty in there!)

I'm afraid my smart manager (updated and working) shows many options but not the keyboard. It was the first thing I checked before asking in the forum. Weird.
EDIT: sorry found it .. my bad. Thanks !Last edited: Jan 3, 2015 -

What is the version of your smart manager? If you did not do it yet, update it with smart update, it enables new options.
-
Reading through your earlier problems and this post, it really sounds like you got a lemon. Unfortunately that can happen with any laptop, no matter the price. I hope OcUK replaces your laptop or gives you a refund.
At least you had yours in your hands.
I ordered a cf4 from xoticpc on Nov. 25th and still don't have it (didn't realize that it was a preorder).
-
Poor guy, I wish you the best, dude!
-
Man that's terrible. I wish you the best of luck. I have to say with all you re-pasters and undervolters having issues I'm not going to touch mine.
-
jeanjackstyle Notebook Evangelist
I do not know if it is really related... If you have a lemon, that's what it is, sure you can damage your laptop by repasting if you accidentally hit the wrong component but it is not a critical operation, neither is undervolt.
Anyway, good luck Freekers ! Let us know how it goes. -
Thanks for the support guys, appreciate it
I received a RMA number from Overclockers UK shortly after I mailed them. So far so good
I'm currently preparing it for transport, should be going out for shipment tomorrow.
Yes it indeed looks like my was a lemon, so I hope when I get it returned all little flaws and quirks will be gone
Also, I have done hundreds of (re)pastes, so I have quite some experience on that topic
I'm sure that it wasn't caused by me repaste, as I was also experiencing cold boot issues before I did the repaste, altough not that frequently as in the past few weeks.
I hope they switch it out with one of the models they have in stock. If not, it can take several weeks I guess....
Anyway, we'll see how things go. Let's hope for the best. . -
jeanjackstyle Notebook Evangelist
Interesting, what thermal pastes did you use for your repastes?
-
Artic Silver 5 (non electrically conductive, so even if you spill something, it won't break anything).
-
jeanjackstyle Notebook Evangelist
All right, what did you think of its efficiency in this laptop? To be true I am a bit disappointed by the liquid pro, maybe my repaste is poor because Temps are not as good as I thought
-
Not electrically conductive, but electrically capacitive, so should still be used with caution. I'd go with Arctic MX-4, Gelid GC-Extreme, or IC Diamond.

Anybody tried Dual Boot yet? I installed Ubuntu but GRUB doesn't show up
Still I can goto boot manager by f12 and boot from there, not much convenient but still works, also after install 2 ubuntu shows up on boot manager, which is kinda weird one of them complains about secure boot. I cannot see any secure boot option in the BIOS. I guess all of this is because of this UEFI business but I never did Dual Boot on UEFI. Also another weird thing is everybody says on the web you gotta disable 3d Graphics Acceleration on BIOS (980m essentially) to get Ubuntu boot up, but I did it without doing it
This is confusing, anybody managed to get proper Dual Boot yet?

Also anybody managed to disable secure boot on this laptop? I cannot find it
(after setting admin password it still doesn't show up)

moviemarketing Milk Drinker
Any of you guys with P35x have DA:Inquisition or FC4? How is the performance? Have you tried recording 60fps gameplay footage with Shadowplay?
-
That's weird, I've always had it in the BIOS under Security -> Delete security variables. Then you can disable secure boot.
-
I played DA: I all the way through on this laptop (1080p, mostly ultra detail) and it ran great. I didn't use FRAPS to measure the frame rate or record footage with Shadowplay but it played like a dream.moviemarketing likes this.
-
They still didn't fix the windowed fullscreen bug right? About secure boot, you need to delete security variables first?
-
Yep, the fullscreen bug wasn't fixed by the time I finished the game, don't know if it is yet.
As to secure boot yeah you need to delete that info, but then the "delete" button changes to a "restore" button so don't worry too much, you don't lose anything.
That's the only way I could get another unsigned OS to boot. -
Turn UEFI off to disable secure boot.
It's still not fixed. Try borderless windowed mode, I've had more luck with that one.
Sent from my Nexus 5 -
Disabled Secure Boot as Joe said, but still GRUB doesn't show Windows boot manager... Did Boot-Repair as well, weird, though I can boot into both from BIOS without trouble, maybe I will keep it this way until after my January trip.
-
Well my laptop just came... 6 days late. Thanks Newegg and ups...
