Hello!
Has anybody noticed that this model has been up on the Gigabyte site for around a week or so? I saw today that it was just now officially announced at Computex, it looks great! If the price is decent this may be something I would consider buying.

Not sure it's a P650 killer though. The TB III is nice though.BarnacleBill likes this. -
I hope it's decent at least, and not too pricey.

What do you guys think the laptop battery time will be(for streaming). Also would this be considered 'portable'.
-
It probably won't be too long, and it is mainly plastic so it shouldn't be super heavy.

I guess it depends what your doing, I can't imagine it being that great, but hey if it is awesome!

I dont really want or expect the laptop to survive if it is gaming.

I'm torn between something like this and rebuilding my dead desktop.

The issue I have is that most of the games I play are CPU intensive, Total War and the like, so, there is a measurable difference in performance.

This laptop looks not bad but seriously that orange color kills it...
-
It is an odd color.
Sent from my SM-G900T using Tapatalk -
Hey Folx,
there´s a new video from Gigabyte Represantives, looks pretty nice
To the orange color, i mean you can cover that with carbon-sticker foil or something
For me it looks like a successor to my needs (fancy keybord, 1070, ok only the 7700HQ but , TB3 and not a superlarge or super heavy device).
In the US it should be available mid JUNE, i guess at the rest of the worlkd some month´s later.
Now it´s hard to decide between the superslim Aero15 and the P56XT where i guess the last one may have a pretty improved cooling and runs quiter

Okay so XoticPC published the variants of this laptop on their site. Is the Bluray drive option just for burning, as in it only writes Blurays and won't play/read them?

Additionally regarding the test there I wanna point out: the rating actually is -20% for gaming performance because there was a throtthling issue with GPU on this review unit (20% less performance than expected from a 1070 GPU upon unknown reason atm).
Once a replacement unit arrives at NBC (which is actually on the way upon gigabytes fellow in this forum as far I understand) I guess this will point out an issue with the first review unit and fix the ranking. Also nice to see that Gigabyte is obviously picks out a random item from current charge and doe not send a "review unit" which other´s may do ;O)
I´m pretty sure this will become my next rig as i have to sent back the Alienware15R3 due to a lot of issues. Jay2x m2 / 2 x 2,5", awesome fancy unicorn keyboard, big battery and IPS Display with TB3 support *eek*

Hi everyone this is my first post. Before purchasing this laptop I wanted to know if the laptop can handle multiple key presses as I use programs such Maya and Zbrush where this function is essential. When I was looking on the support page for the site, I came across this and the P56XT model was listed as well.
https://www.gigabyte.com/Support/FAQ/3702 -
Check out the Aero 15 thread which had the issue with the multiple key press stuff, not sure if they´ve fixed that in the meantime. The Gigabyte P56XT is pretty rare atm i guess, maybe any reviewer is able to find out if that works ^^

This laptop looks awesome. Too bad it didn't get a catchy name like the Gigabyte Aero did.
Runs quite a bit warmer than the Aero 15 (see review linked below by sicily428) though I guess that can't be helped because of the GTX 1070 vs the 1060, but are there any other laptops with a GTX 1070 and such great battery life?Last edited: Jul 29, 2017 -

Hey guys,
seems item get inbouned at local retailers in the EU (spoken for DE) - suprise, so i´ve placed an order for the slightly ugly item and let you know soon if it´s worth it or not.
It should become my daily driver due to battery runtime and gaming possibilities, i still hope it´s not too large for that
Hopefully i won´t run into thermal issues which i can´t fix by myself (as my lastest AW15R3 had for example) and am in hope to receive a device which get used for next couple of years.
Regards
aVa -
Hey folks, my P56XT (EU Version) arrived couple of days ago, just want to let you know my current pro´s an con´s without using it as daily driver yet. As comparison devices I have in mind my old MSI GT72 which i had for long time and also the Alienware 15R3 which maybe the better successor to compare.
Please keep in mind that I was waiting long time to get the device, so maybe I´m little prejudiced here, but usually I´m not as i won´t threw out my cash for machines i don´t trust (as AW15R3 before lol). I will compare to my old MSI GT72 and my (faulty) AW 15R3.
Pro´s:
+ they´ve put a single 16GB DDR4 module in my device (nice for upgraders)
+ looks better than on the images on NBC / web
+ feels batter than it looksso the plastic feels pretty nice
+ good keyboard (comfortable to use and not that loud, beside of the fancy color stuff)
+ thin (but large and powerful) power brick which is nice for backpacks which i like
+ the 60Hz IPS panel does not have any kind of pixel Errors or Lightbleed and it looks very ! awesome to me (AW15R3 had lot lightbleed those days)
+ good acess to inner parts (RAM / SSD and HDD) only 12 Screws
+ the audio sounds better than AW15R3 for me, but not that good like in the GT72 (old one) but cannot directly compare, just wanna say speakers are not that **** than expected
+ the fan modes (manually controlled) between 55% up to 100% are not so superhighfrequently loud than expected which is pretty nice, on full speed they are less noisy than AW15R3 and even than my old GT72 which is nice and I did not expect that (but see cons)
+ Keyboard Backlite < there no super large "bleeds" arround the keys which is nice
Neutral:
o why therés no 90° powercord / plug
o for EU version there´s only an 256GB SATA-III 2280 stick, in focus of the pricetag little disappointing
o I´ve already broke a pin on the Swappable Bay ^^
o only 60Hz display what I was aware of before
Con:
- my right fan generates heavy vibrations and get pretty loud between 20% to 45% (if it runs faster it disappears) so I wonder about quality check and will have a look inside
update: the noise and vibrations are gone almost after couple of hours - JAY
- the GB "smart updater" software will have the files based on a server in CN or something as i continously had 2mbit/s and it takes pretty long time to get the device updated (as 200mbit/s is possible)
Undervolting:
I´ve used IntelXTU + Prime95 to check if CPU can handle -0.100mV , it works, once done I´ve removed IntelXTU and installed ThrottleStop and setup this to autorun at startup to have it more comfortable.
Now I´ve got much lower temperatures, ending in less noise production and also hopefully having better battery life time. Also my GPU will run some Kelvins cooler as you may know there 2 Headpipes connected between CPU and GPU and the fan´s on this device.
After a couple of rounds Battlefield 1 (Ultra / FullHD and max 60fps due to 60Hz Display) the fan´s kicked in only < 50% of the speed. This is pretty awesome and I was not expecting this, especially I did not used a cooler pad, just had the notebook standing on a wooden table. I´m pretty impressed, thats less noisy than my GT72 produced couple of months before (which is a big bada*** in cooling). CPU Cores were jumping arround 70°C +/- 9 in this time.
In 3D Mark the system runs at average 60 to75% fanspeed, all in one just less loud than my GT72 (i do not compare the Alienware 15R3 as this was a faulty Design in focus of thermals and was loud as heck).
I´m pretty impressed till now and guess this will become my daily driver for next couple of years.

It´s about 3 to 8 Kelvin better, so you can hear a difference (fan kicks in much later). Cinebench claimes undervolted the same points than with stock voltage. The CLEVO laptop (also i7 7700HQ same settings) which i´ve benched also throtthled in cinebench already, once undervolted it had same points than mine
In hard gaming (BF1 / PUBF) i need to check, i not yet have 100% proven temp´s, just if i play in "custom fan" mode on lowest speed, where system becomes hotand run into throttle , it does not turn off.
In "gaming" FanMode (Preset, not 100% fanspeed) CPU reaches arround 89°C without throtthling, the GPU i did not checked yet, but heaven benchmark and the newer one claimed also something arround 74°C to 80°C for the GPU. But let me check (on wooden table versus on Coolermaster NotePal 3). -
Hi there,
attached see the result after playing average an hour on a wooden table (PUBG for an hour, room temperature average 26°C) with fanspeed "gaming" (auto, i guess not run over 70% fanspeed) and just slightly undervolted CPU. I´m fine atm, but will repaste i guess.
-
How's the case and build quality on this one? The plastic design does make me nervous since I am very hard on my gear. Anyone do a real world battery test? Looks like the only laptop out there with the performance, size, and battery length that I'm looking for.
-
Hi,
so the case is really "thin" but heavyier than it looks like. Plastic is also not my favour, but it´s better than it looks on the images / feels better than it looks too. And sure, an Alienware or XPS13 in comparison feels different in hand as it´s metal, but the P56 is okay and not that heavy as the metal ones. How long it last under "rude" handling i don´t know.
Real World Battery test: this is up on how you use the machine, i guess a work day (about 7 hrs ontime ) on i-GPU without the GTX should not become a problem, for me it´s (Surfing / Coding / some videos) arround 6hr and a couple of minutes on 50 to 80% brightness incl. some shutdowns n stuff. I guess the information from NBC should match realtime usage.
Theres also the Gigabyte Aero 15 (same specs but just the 1060) which may be a successor as this is much thinner / lighter and also has a large battery.
Btw here´s an image after 3 to 4 hrs gaming on a Coolermaster NotePal, it´s slightly better result as on the wooden table, but not "super different" which means out of my perspective the airflow in the machine seems pretty well designed.

Yep I am liking this one more and more. I'm thinking I'll be picking this over the MSI Raider.
-
Here's a question: where can one actually buy this thing? In the USA specifically. Seems impossible.
-
Im leaning towards the Raider right now due to the better thermal system, keyboard and speakers. Also, I believe the display on the Raider is better for gaming due to its extremely low response time. The Gigabyte display also used PWM which can be a problem for me.

Uhm, so the MSI Raider (if it´s about the GE63VR 7RF Something with 7700HQ/1070) seems also a pretty nice machine, will have alluminum parts and steel series Keyboard which usually is awesome to type on. In focus of the RGB Backlight i want to point out i love the P56XT keys as only the "keys itself" flash, there is no "frame / light" arround the keys. On the MSI seems theres more "light arround the key".
Ah and backlight USB3 Ports and a red framed trackpad *lol* so i guess no matter what you do, the MSI will scream it´s a gamer from this perspective (which i like on the P56XT cause it´s looking more serious). Dont get me wrong, my GT72 (old one) was more decent than all further releases of the MSI Lineup GT72/73 with "too much", it looks like a car or transformer stuff, so i guess it´s up on the person who buy if that, if it´s liked or not =) but i don´t catch the fact they went back to this design, as i mean Alienware and the others (Clevo and ASUS and Gigabyte) are able to produce no "toy looking" machines in the meantime. And MSI in 2014/15 did that too.
I guess there´s no ThunderBolt 3 on the MSI, but not sure. Also it seems 120Hz refreshrate display without GSYNC in comparison with P56XT which is only 60Hz screen without GSYNC maybe thats also a point for MSI. It maybe is little thinner, but from weight i guess it will be almost similar (as Gigabyte is plastic, got larger battery, but MSI slightly thinner, smaller battery but metal parts).
Also i guess it will be louder under load (fan noise) than the P56XT but lets wait for reviews. Also MSI will be louder with sound "volume" as maybe slightly better DynAudio speakers (the MSI). On the other hand the P56XT will have an optical drive / swappable bay and there for in sum 2x 2280 / 2x 2,5" , versus MSI which comes with 2x 2280 / 1x 2,5". Beside of that I guess the much larger battery is a point of the P56XT.
Pretty hard decision to take, maybe you have the chance for a direct comparison or write down what points will be ranked over "others" but such is hard to handle.
My personal "need" those days was battery lifetime / no GSYNC (or: and IPS panel) (in favour of battery usage and option with external display), Thunderbolt3 (not sure why as i have no devices..) and a not heavy (as AW15R3) machine with a "full" 1070 (means no MaxQ) and ;P a lot of SSD as option (cause i still had 3x512GB ...), so I choosed the P56XT over the Clevo650RS (lower battery, no TB3) and MSI Raider (personal points: not the "best" customer support experiences on "non upgradable" GT72 some months back, and the "for me too toyish look").
RegardsLast edited: Sep 3, 2017 -
I also had the same concern regarding the lighted USB ports but during a review I was watching, they can be turned off through the Dragon Center software.
You're right, there is no Thunderbolt 3 on the Raider. If you think you'll use it then definitely go with something else.
I'm regards to the display, yes the Raider has a 120hz refresh rate with a 3ms response time which is considerably better than a 60hz 25ms display even with GSYNC.
The speakers aren't a huge selling point for me since I usually wear headphones while gaming but I do watch videos and movies using the built-in speakers. So far with reviews, people are saying that the Raider speakers are the best speakers ever put into a laptop without a doubt. You can tell just by looking at the speaker chambers that they can kick it.
I don't know which one had louder fans though. From what I gathered however is that you can control the fan curve on the MSI but I haven't figured out if you can do that on the Gigabyte.
I'm still up in the air but I'm leaning towards the Raider on thermals and the display alone.

Yes so on MSI you can manually fix fanspeed as provided in Gentec PC review, you can do slightly different change the fanspeed on the Gigabyte see here https://www.notebookcheck.net/Gigabyte-P56XT-7700HQ-GTX-1070-Full-HD-Laptop.234424.0.html smart center, but i will force to run with "auto modes" about to prevent any overheating device (< cause i guess if you force "super silent" mode, you´ll receive super hot mode and hardware may run at their max / throttle).
And yes a 120Hz screen may weight more than Thunderbolt 3 ^^ -

avalanche, any idea how i could order one in the US?
-
Hm, so in comparison i would not say the Gigabyte P56XT is worse build anyway. It´s okay for what you pay in focus quality, and yes it´s still plastic but i can´t find "nopes" (and fingerprings you´ll also have on the metal ones). So the P56XT "over" the MSI Raider is one more 2,5" Device, ThunderBolt3 port (for whom who cares), possible much better battery life time, better looking backlit keyboard in the dark (personal preference as i dislike the glow arround key´s). I guess the MSI will point in better speakers, better display (refresh rate bus also without gsync) and we´ll see how´s about the cooling and average noise levels (which are awesome spoken for my P56XT but the MSI has a lot of headpipes, which can help but we´ll see what serious reviewers will find out here).
@servo386 (with or without Co Processor?) i have no idea as I´m based in Europe, and just had luck to find a dealer with QUERTZ keyboard layout. Maybe there´s any official Gigabyte Represantive in this forum who can find an answer for you. http://www.gigabyte.us/Buy#101142000,,1,1,1-0 is what i´ve found, but i bet there will be a lot of retails who sell Aorus or Gigabyte in the US. I also bet Amazon will have some instock pretty soon.
-
Avalance... Can you post some thermals during stress and gaming?
Sent from my SM-G955U using Tapatalk -
Hi,
already done on page 4, so i do not run "stress tests" in form of "burn in" or something, my temps are from gaming sessions (arround 2 or 3 hours):
On wooden table and -0,125V VCore:
CPU: arround 80°C to 87°C / no throtteling
GPU: arround 76°C to 82°C / no throtteling
On Coolermaster Ergosand "laptop cooler":
CPU: arround 75°C to 82°C / no throtteling
GPU: arround 70°C to 78°C / no throtteling
In general, in 2D tasks as surfing / office / light stuff the Fan´s wont kick in in general, which is pretty awesome. Due gaming (i do not own Whicher3 but GTA5 and PUBG and BF1 and stuff) the fans never kick in to 100% rpm, and run randomly between 55% and 75% as far as i can "hear", which is also pretty impressive. I am really happy with current stand, but maybe i will thermal repaste my P56XT just to get the last few Kelvins out of the cooling solutionand just for fun.
In direct comparison with Alienware15R3/6820HK and MSI GT72 i had before, its quieter under load, and the GT72 is a big fat ass cooling, which is impressive. The Alienware was much more louder or running on a "i hate the frequence" sound, but all in one the AW was faulty by design so not sure if that counts in for a comparison.
*on Coolermaster ErgoStand (Laptop Cooler)
and here on a wooden table without any additional cooling:

So I just ordered one of these finally cause it really seems like the perfect laptop for me minus the heat issues i guess, which is I ordered it from HIDevoltion with the highest level of thermal re-pasting service they do. Once I get it, I'll let you guys know how it goes. For what its worth, you need to search this is a "Gigabyte p56xv7" or something similar to find this on Amazon/Newegg and HID and XoticPC.
-
Cool, let us know how it works and which temp´s your´s reach. I´ve ordered the Kryonaut paste and will do a repaste this week, it would be nice to get some degrees lower
-
Attached some images from the thermal repaste of my Gigabyte P56XT. After Removing 11 screws from backplate you will see something like this:
Now there´s just a need to unscrew 1 screw per fan, disconnect the fan cabels and carefully untighten the headspreader screws crosswise (to prevent too much preasure on an edge) (4x on GPU 3x on CPU). Pretty easy to perform, thanks for that kind of layout goes out to Gigabyte.
After removing the Headspreader
After cleaning CPU/GPU and Headspreader

And attaching the Kyronaut it looks like this:
Once done I´ve put back the Headpipe in place, and slowly raised preasure while doing a slight rotaion movement to make sure it fit´s as expected. Then i´ve startet to tighten the screws as much as it let me do.
I guess either i have too much thermal paste on it, or too less, whatever, i guess i need to repaste again as the temp´s wont be as expected.
Also possible that I´ve did half the job and further has to replace the stock thermal paste from headspreader and modules on the images as I´ve did not cleaned/repasted or touched those (only CPU/GPU) either maybe that´s the reason and i can close the gap little further with the next attempt.
After tightening the screws back on there´s not much room for me to raise the preasure of the headpipes, but will have a deeper look into that.
After couple of DAYS now:
with Kyronaut i have better (2 to 7 Kelvin) temps than "stock" on Notebook Cooling Stand
it even did not kick into the highest fan mode (i guess 80%) than before on GamingProfile
with Kyronaut the fans kick in much later now
and now the Bullsh*** part:
I am a idiot, the temps get that higher cause i´ve not connected the fan for the GPU
with Kyronaut on the other handside now I have higher temps on a wooden table (without cooling stand) than before which is pretty confusing ;O) so yesterday on a gaming session CPU went up to the 91°C and GPU to the 85°C, also the device feels slightly "hotter" in the upper area (on the wooden table) than before - after a gaming session (PUBG ~2hrs). I´m pretty sure i never went >90°C CPU/GPU before and i´ve did not changed any other parameters or had any stuff working in the background.
