So I have a P34G V2 that may have a bad heatpipe on the cpu side (fan runs all the time even though it is undervolted even after bios updates and a fresh install of windows). I contacted Gigabyte directly to try to purchase a heatsink for the laptop and they said they don't sell parts to customers. Ok so I contacted XoticPC and they contacted Gigabyte. Gigabyte will not sell Xotic a heatsink because they want me to send in my laptop for repairs. I want to purchase a heatsink to fix my laptop because I cannot afford for Gigabyte to have my laptop for x amount of days to do such a simple repair.
Even in explaining that I use all Gigabyte products in my customer's PC builds they still do not care. So here I am with a semi broken laptop that I cannot afford to be without all because Gigabyte really doesn't care.
This is the last Gigabyte product I will purchase.

Sorry to hear. It's a shame. For years I have been buying HP Elitebook workstations and their service was superb and guaranteed for 3 years. I have had issues but a call to the service center and a part was on it's way - I always requested to do it myself. I have seen techs do bad jobs and breaking plastic latches, scratches and such. These things don't happen if you do it by yourself with time and "love". Not being able to get spare parts (we already had the discussion about the battery) makes me reconsider. Unfortunately HP stopped making workstations (with real processors). And so did Dell. No real alternatives out there
-
They also suffer under the totally stupidly constructed notebooks with all their plastic hooks and latches (instead of good old screws). I don't know who is responsible for this crap, but I expected better after all these years - and yet 80% of all notebooks are still constructed the same crappy way.
I agree however, with the topic creator, that it's ridiculous not being allowed to purchase a new heatsink. Especially because Gigabytes & Clevos make it easier to fix it by yourself. What is this... -
I am kinda disapointed by notebooks in general lately. Almost every notebook has a compromising issue somewhere.
The MSI GS60 has a poor screen lid and a really crappy battery. Too many SSD's draining it even faster.
This Gigabyte model has a battery of which the longevity specs are not know and Gigabyte refuses to answer this. I have send them an email about it. Also a plastic keyboard frame and poor quality control.
Alienware 2014/2015 series have problems with the soft touch rubber wearing down too quickly.
Razer Blade laptops with fans that have too much friction when being used at a small angle (Starts ticking).
etc etc -

Yeah it is pretty sad now a days. Companies used to cater to the customer but now a days it seems like customer service is not high on the list of priorities. I like the features of the gigabyte laptops but with this type of service I will have to look elsewhere.
-
Second that, my GS60 screen wobbles when I type really fast, the battery is beyond crappy it has a widespread issue (high wear level out of the box) and msi has refused to deal with it even after my several attempts to contact them (emails, phone call, forum) ...

This is the part about gigabyte that I never comprehend, they not only refuse to sell you heatsinks but also batteries, having a spare battery is quite useful but somehow they won't let you have it .........

I gather so much knowledge here and waiting for your new post.thanks for your great post.

Yep, I don't get it. You would think if I were in the business of making money I would gladly sell you something if you wanted it... Most parts for laptops are marked up a huge amount. If they sold you a battery for 4x what it costs them that sounds like a win to me, but what do I know...Dannemand likes this. -
to be fair with gigabytes battery. it doesnt look like a big standard battery. it looks like it is in two parts or something with casing over it. a bit like a rechargable battery pack in an RC car.but i agree they should be more accessible in parts.
-
The ones in the P series are just normal laptop batteries without casing. Similar to what Apple and MSI does. I think Razer did that too. Polymer type LI-ION batteries do not need it. But if there is a problem they can still erupt and burn. But it is annoying that they do not want to give us the specs of the these batteries.
The Aorus X3 on the other hand. Has a strange shape of Polymer batteries and these indeed look like battery packs from an AC. The quality of the assembly seems to be very good though, -
Now that I think about I could imagine their philosophy. If you could order each part separately, you could do the following: say bought a cheap Gigabyte P35 from last year (with a 860m)... then you could order a new motherboard (only) with the 980m and put it into the same chassis, because all adapters, plugs, connectors remained the same. It would be even worse (for Gigabyte) if the next generation motherboard would still fit into the same chassis. People could upgrade with quite low cost.
Nah... it's still stupid, because only a minority would do that. And exchanging batteries should always be easy... -
They just could send a cooler. New motherboards for example do not fit in the current new frames anyway. The mountings are a bit different.
The biggest complain I have now is just the plastic frames around the keyboard. It saves them costs when it comes to making laptops for different regions. But it does look cheaper. -
Well we're not talking about every single part here. But for something as basic as batteries, they are parts that we want to have, me think ......
Gigabyte the company that doesn't care
