I need your opinion guys! There's a dude on craigslist who is selling a p34gv2-cf2 for $1400 cad. The question is: should I get it and probably save $800 cad over the p34w v3 (assuming I'll have to import it from the states) or would you yourself pay an extra $800 to upgrade your GPU?

    Damn that's a hard choice....
I'd go for the 1400$ one. 800$ is ALOT of money for a game to look SLIGHTLY better.

What is it called, is it not P34g V3...? Because I saw the header for the pm in my email and it had a different naming scheme...? Some reason the site doesn't recognize my account since i had made this accpunt using tapatalk and linked it to the site. Unless tapatalk supports pms and I'm unaware of it?

Thanks for your opinion! The way I'm looking at it is 90% more performance for only 60% more cost, but who knows maybe gigabyte with totally mess up the new model with the increased tgp. Seriously man, reviews can't come sooner.

Why the change in naming schemes from p34g to p34w?? It's left me so confused... Especially when they add a V3 to the end of it.. The black does look nice though!

They had to show that the graphics are significantly better (860m vs 970m). Like the P35g (860m) /P35w(870m-970m)/P35x(980m).

We can't be sure yet but I don't think it will have a v3 at the end.

v3 won't be going anywhere as the it's the 3rd iteration of that product. P35W was the original, P35Wv2 2nd gen, P35Wv3 is the third. I'm sure that'll change sometime in the future but not this time around.

Yes but you're talking about the p35g, while I'm specifically talking about the P34g. Two different product sizes within the same family. Also their P35W is a different class. This is why it's so confusing. They've released the P35W V3--I understand it's the third iteration for the 15 inch of their gaming laptop moniker--what I don't understand--and my question--is why the sudden change and introduction of the new P34W V3 which is actually the third iteration of the P34G V2, the thin and light laptop. It makes no sense for them to specifically reiterate the laptop with a new name yet introduce it with a Version 3 moniker when it's the first introduction of that size for their family; specifically the gaming laptop family--PW's series. And yes the PG's series are also "gaming laptop" but they are not labeled as such, they are labeled as thin and light which is why it is confusing to the consumers...

Guess I really just want them to decide whether they'll consider it to be a new product or stick with the V3 not both... -__-. Also isn't the new P35x updated to include 980m as well? So that just confuses everything even more.

Haven't given an ETA just yet. I would expect in the next couple weeks. We see most manufacturers saying within the first week of November they'll have everything to us.

The pictures we have up on our site are what Gigabyte provided us for the machine. No reason to suspect they'd look any different than pictured. Will only be able to confirm when they arrive.

Pretty much waiting for the p34w v3 to come now. Just there's such sparse news for it that it's hard to find any relevant info for it let alone reviews. Hopefully they'll be some soon.

Has anybody else had problems with the SmartManager software? For me, it seems to have a bug that interferes with the Intel Speedstep, locking the maximum CPU clock to 1297 or 1596. This happens regardless of the power profile selected. You can also see a warning 37 Kernel-Processor-Power in the Event viewer (Software is limiting CPU ....).

Such a shame that this really useful utility is not working. I'm not running the factory-installed Windows though, as I bought the laptop without an operating system.

    Hi There,

    I'm a proud owner of a Gigabyte P34G v2 Laptop, and I have a couple of questions:
    1. I want to purchase an alternative power supply for travel (as we all know, the provided one is kinda bulky). I've read that people have been using either the CODi 100W Power Adapter, or the Innergie mCube varients.
I'd love to hear from someone that has been using an alternative PSU for a while and is recommending to purchase it.

    2. My previous laptop was a MSI one, which also had an ELAN touchpad. Somehow, it seems as if the Gigabyte ELAN driver is kind of restricted; Meaning, there are a lot of options which are hidden from the menu (for example, two-finger tapping and four-finger gestures), which can be activated via some registry tweaks. Alas, these tweaks get reset every time the computer is rebooted.
I've tried installing different drivers provided by other vendors, but none of them install properly..
Anyone has a solution to this?

I do think there is a little more ELAN functionality in maybe the ASUS one. I'm currently using 11.14.6.1, though I don't recall which one I downloaded it from. It's got everything I need (two finger tap right click) working properly, though no four-finger gestures (max three finger swipe action).

As for power bricks, I've been using the CODi 100w for about two months now on a daily basis (I leave the OEM one at home and bring the CODi one in my bag). I think it's great, plus it has a USB charging port. I've even done some light gaming on it when at full battery (Dota 2) and that made the brick pretty hot, but nothing I've worried about. Other on here I think have recommended the Razer power brick. But the Codi is inexpensive and feels well-made.

That doesn't have an effect on it... If I go to XTU and fiddle a bit with the multipliers, the problem is gone. Something mysterious going on in here.

I honestly think (even as a proud owner) the p34 series is dead. Sager has come out with a laptop that just BLOWS it away... the NP8651

it's about 500$ less, a tiny bit thicker, 970m, same CPU/RAM. BUT here is the AMAZING part. Under full load GPU is 60 degrees... yes 60. This is due to the fact that they have set up 2 fans for GPU and a seperate fan/heatsink for the CPU. (Ie. the heat from CPU does not reach GPU and vice versa). The OC headroom on this is HUGE. I have no doubt it can be OC'd to beat the 980m.

I have a question to owners:
have u played games via HDMI on TV 1080p ?
I'm looking for new laptop and confused that p34g doesn't have mini DP.
As I wrote in p34g v3 thread I have a problem with hdmi on my AW m14x r2 - great lag, and have to use mini DP instead. (its mini DP to HDMI and 10m HDMI cable to TV) and this works fine?
is this AW m14x r2 specific problem, or all laptops have their HDMI port connected to intel HD graphics card which is a bottle neck as I understand (actualy read somewhere )?

Nope, HDMI is to GPU. When I'm at home (80% of the time I use the laptop) I hook up an external 1080 monitor, mouse and keyboard. No difference for the native panel or the monitor panel in terms of fps.

btw, you said that in terms of fps there is no difference. But what about delay between mouse+keyboard/gamepad commands and reaction on external screen?

completely other category laptop: bigger thinker and almost 1 kg heavier.
the most important point of the p34g is the size and weight, I mean this laptop is almost an ultrabook, with a very powerful internals.
At this moment the only competidor for this laptop is the razer blade which is way more expensive.

a bigger laptop 15.6" vs 14". .98" vs. .83" thick. 5.5lb vs 3.57lb. 3GB ram GPU vs 6GB ram 970M. If you're traveling or on the move all the time (like me), the .15" and 2lbs does make a difference and imo worth the $400 difference. The heat issue is not surprising since Clevo has more room to work with with the bigger and thicker chassis.

I agree with lazard, the NP8651 looks fantastic if you ignore the fact that it's slightly heavier and thicker than the P34Gv2. What's important to me is portability since I lug my P34Gv2 with me everyday when I go to classes and it's what the P34Gv2 excels at.

Can someone please take a screenshot of gpu clock speed (using afterburner) when on battery and under load? Mine seems to quickly alternate between full clock speed and 274mhz... I think it should be going to P1 state (405mhz).

Hey everyone, so I just got one of this computers and I'll be testing it over the next couple of weeks to see if I keep it. I ordered it without any HDD/SDD because I'll add my own but right now I just have one question: Is the regular 2.5'' drive fixed to the computer in any way? I see a special "wrap" with some spacers was included and I could see in some pictures where it goes, but I also have a couple of spare screws and I don't know if they should go anywhere in specific.

EDIT: Never mind, I found my answer here.

Hello again everyone. So this time I have a different issue with the touchpad and I hope someone can help me verify if it happens to someone else too. Namely, three fingers are simply not correctly detected, you can see a simple video I made here. As you can see, laying a third finger makes the other two disappear, and this causes three-finger gestures to work very seldom. The program I used was included in the touchpad driver of my previous laptop (also an ELAN), and you can download it from here if you like.

Otherwise, you can also use a tool included in Gigabyte's touchpad installer called ETDDeviceInformation (inside the X64 folder). That tool has a finger counter and position indicator which you can use. When I lay a third finger, the position indicator goes nuts and sometimes the finger counter only shows 2 fingers even if 3 are being used, specifically when the third finger is very close to any of the other two.

Hey guys I actually have a problem with my processor frequency. It always stays at 1.6 GHz even when under intense load. I have my power management set to high performance and everything. Only way I can make it go to 3.0GHz+ is by changing my multiplier in intel extreme tuning utility higher one number and then back again. I have to do this way too often and it is annoying. Does anyone have any idea why it will not go higher than 1.6 GHz? Thanks.

Just an update- I've sold my laptop and am now waiting for my Sager NP8651 to come in. It's still 25mm thin and has a 970m. The 970m has been OC'd by another user to MATCH the 980m :0 The temperatures are in the mid 60's. I highly recommend you guys check it out ;)

Hey all, for those who were interested in a replacement (or larger) battery for this laptop, finally found some online sellers. Just do a quick search for "GMS-C60 battery." Found a few sellers going for about $100 shipped from UK or China. It's the 60 Whr version, which is ~25% improvement from the stock one in the CF2 variant. If anyone has the 64Whr battery version, and would share the item code/part number that would be great.

Both places I saw it online was 11.1V, 60.384Whr. The stock 47.73Whr CF-2 battery that I have is also 11.1V. There might be other variants floating around.

Still only 3gb vram which takes it out of the running for me due to the lack of being less future proof. So either the p35x or Aorus x3+ for me.

Why couldn't they have stuck with the 6gb for the p34w?? So hard to choose now.

I have the a 61.25Wh version. It's battery part number is "GNC-J40". My laptop can fit both the SSD & HDD in it with the extended battery. I'm not sure if the model you found could fit one with the HDD in it.

I bought my laptop with windows 7. Would windows 8 be better for the battery life?

Have been searching on the web and these forums for a bit and cant find what i'm after.

I find the keyboard backlight is too bright.

Im trying to find a way to make the low setting high, and the low setting lower.

    Anyone got an ideas
