    Hi guys,

I'm experiencing battery issues. BatteryInfoViewer says my wear level is at 78.5%.

Did anyone ever find out a place selling batteries for this laptop?

    Thanks.

Check with your reseller, they can likely order a battery for you from gigabyte (as long as gigabyte plays nice). May require that they or an authorized service center put it in. If your reseller is no help, possibly look for a gigabyte authorized service center close and give them a call.

    Thanks Alex.

There's actually a Gigabyte service center where I live, and they said they can order a battery from Gigabyte (China) for me (they don't have these batteries in stock here).

Unfortunately, to do so they said I have to leave my laptop in the service center, and it could take weeks for the battery to arrive. That's not an option, so they gave me some guy's email address from Gigabyte in China to find out if he can help. I sent him an email asking if I can order a battery directly from Gigabyte in China, but he hasn't replied yet.

    Will update.

Good Luck! I believe the issue is just that it is an internal battery so providing parts for and warranty'ing by a "non licensed" service center could cause issues.

Could they just order the battery with payment for the battery then keep your laptop only while they put the new battery in and not while waiting for the battery to come from china? o_O

    Well that was easy!

The Gigabyte rep replied and was super nice. He asked for my SN and said he'll ship the battery asap to the service center where I live, and that they will contact me when it arrives so I can come over and they will replace the battery (he also cc'd some guy from the service center here to make sure it happens so that's cool).

Hopefully this really is that easy. Also I'm not sure whether I'll have to pay for this. He didn't say anything about it. Hopefully I won't have to as my warranty is still valid.

Edit: Oh and to answer your question Alex, I didn't think about asking about paying and waiting. But seems unnecessary now (keeping my fingers crossed). Thanks.

So battery arrived a few days ago and I had it installed today.

BatteryInfoView shows its wear level at about 97%. I was freaked out but then I realized it must mean it has gone down from no wear at all (100%) to almost no wear (97%). So my previous battery's wear level was actually 20%, not 80%. Still developers chose to name it "Battery Wear Level: %". Odd choice of words. And indeed BatteryCare shows my new battery's wear level at 3%.

Have the Windows 10 bugs/quirks been resolved? E.g. Someone mentioned about a "wake" bug where the wakes itself a few minutes after Sleep Mode (and possibly Cortana driving that bug)

Hey, I had a lot of problems with the wake bug in Win 8.1 and after upgrading to Win 10 and updating the drivers things seems to work a lot better.
I don't know about the Cortana issue since I disabled it completely.

Happy Thanksgiving! Would you be able to share what program handles this? I found this yesterday but it doesn't seem like a "clean" approach?

    http://superuser.com/questions/236815/how-to-prevent-hard-drive-from-spinning-down-windows-7

Also, I think my stuttering is due to heat dissipation/throttling. It seems that when I hit certain temperatures, it stutters for a moment as it throttles back. If I "lift" my laptop to provide better air flow, it minimizes these stutters. If I don't "lift" it, I eventually hit a point where the entire laptop powers off.

I'm not 100% sure though. I'll keep observing.

You can give this a whirl http://keepalivehd.codeplex.com/

WD actually made an official program that accesses settings in the firmware, but they discontinued it. I think it's called widdledisk or something.

Awesome, I'll give that a shot. My v2's mechanical hard drive is made by Maxtor, according to Crystal Info. Am I right to assume this program will work with all hard drive brands?

Not sure. Only one way to find out My solution to this age old problem is I replaced my HDD with an SSD. If you look around you can find some 1TB SSDs for $200.

    Ha! ;)

I was mistaken, my SSD is a Plextor and my HDD is an HGST. Is that what everyone else has?

I'm a bit taken back because Crystal Disk Info says the Plextor has about 384 hours on it, whereas the HGST has 3,656 hours on it. I know my notebook came in as a refurb from XoticPC (purchased through Amazon's Warehouse Deals as an open-box which saved nearly $500 at the time) so I wonder if the original owner's SSD had prematurely died...

    Hi guys,

My fans stopped working. This happened after I took my laptop apart to fix something and disconnected and reconnected the fans. When I noticed they weren't working I took the laptop apart again and noticed I didn't connect the fan on the right (below the mSATA slot) properly, so I plugged it in right this time, but the fans are still not working.

Does anyone have a clue why they still won't turn on? I disconnected (and reconnected) some other cables- could this be it?

And does anyone know if they sell these anywhere? I couldn't find anything.

This is the one on the left:

Ok the fans are working again. I just blew at one of them and they started working. But they will sometimes stop spinning and turn again after a while. Is that normal? I don't know if this was always happening.

Also did anyone update their SmartManager? did you notice there are new fan controls? There are now three options: Eco, Normal, and Turbo. And none of them seem to work- when my fans stop spinning, no matter what I choose they will not spin.

I'm not sure if it's the software update or something else. I suspect it may be the fact that I disconnected the CMOS battery which apparently resets the bios. I checked the bios but couldn't find any fan-related options.

    Can anyone help?

Update 1: Oh and also I can't seem to get any readings from my fans (e.g., RPM rate)- not on the new Smart Manager dashboard and not on SpeedFan.

Update 2: Did a fresh install (reset laptop to Gigabyte's factory settings) so I got to use the old Smart Manager, and the fans were working fine when I used the fan controls. But then I updated to the latest version of Smart Manager and the fan controls are not working again. So I guess the new version is at fault.

    Hi again,

Sorry for the triple post  Can anyone please advise- I got a new mSATA SSD (500GB) today. I want to replace the original mSATA SSD (LiteOn 128GB) with it to use as my new boot drive.

I googled for some guides but couldn't find one that matches this situation. Did anyone do this and can refer me to something useful? Will I need special equipment (adapters and such) or is it just a matter of using cloning/migration software?

    Thanks.

I can confirm that the new smart manager update does break the fan curve control. They must know this because they made it possible to revert back to the previous version.

Yep, 5.2.4 now shows up as the latest version on Smart Update.

Also a heads up to anyone planning on updating their Smart Manager: These two versions (5.2.4 & 5.2.9) caused an odd bug where my laptop will show the "Shutting down" window, then the screen goes black, but the laptop won't shut down completely. (WiFi, Bluetooth, Battery and Power indicators always on), and I have to force (power button long press) the laptop to shut down.

I uninstalled Smart Manager and the problem is gone.

I think it is advised to rely on the Smart Manager version listed on the P34G V2's download page. No issue encountered so far with the 5.13 version.

I'm not sure about that. The P34W v5 page for example shows Smart Manager v5.4.7 ( here) which isn't listed in Smart Update for P34G v2 owners. So what shows in Smart Update on the P34G v2 is probably intended for us to use.

I think they just broke something. But I'll download 5.13 anyway cuz I like the fan controls :)

I emailed Gigabyte expressing my frustration with the locked BIOS limiting the GPU overclock potential. I got an email back saying they forwarded my email to the proper department. We'll see how hat happens.

    Aaaand it's a dead end.

    "Mr. Vince,

Our notebooks do not have overclocking functions for the CPU or GPU in the BIOS. We do not support overclocking so you would need to experiment with third party software tools at you own risk. Thank you."

I don't know if anyone has had this problem. Pretty sure my battery is swelling up. The case where the battery sits is bending and deforming, yesterday bottom left of the case opened. It's around 15 months old and it still has the 2 year global warranty. I'm calling Gigabyte support tomorrow to see what can I do, I'm located in Sydney. Anyone had experience with Gigabyte Australia? I'm not sure what's going to happen, and hopefully they help me.

    Hi guys,

I'm reviving this thread to see if anyone can help on a strange and very annoying issue I'm having lately on my P34 v2

When I close the lid of my computer and open it again after a while (or even immediately after) then the system is not responsive: I mean black screen and no way to log in or to do anything else than rebooting my laptop.

It happens a few time in the past but as of this week it does it every single time I close and re-open the lid.
I've got no clue whatsoever on what can cause that so if anyone has experienced that and knows a solution that would be much appreciated !

A new BIOS update was released the other day. I'm liking the new auto fan curve. Maybe we can finally take it off turbo mode and achieve under 85C.

Just tried the new BIOS (FB06/F007)

In my quick testing it seems they have set the fans to never turn off. The fans just seem to run at the lowest setting constantly... I even tried idling with fan on max for 5 minutes to ensure everything was as cool as could be. Fans still sat there purring away while I browse, even on stealth mode.....

This is incredibly annoying to me, so I rolled back to the previous (FB05), fans back to now shutting off completely at idle/browsing.

I'm having the same problem: fans don't turn off anymore since upgrading to FB07 . Really annoying. Tried to revert back from BIOS FB07 to FB05 but I get stuck in SmartFlash with an error saying "SmartFlash not compatible with this machine".

    Any ideas??

I did that, yes. Tried a few different versions of the SmartManager aswell. No luck. Pretty sure it's the bios, since i the fan behaves differently since the upgragde. I'm in contact with Gigabyte support but it's not very helpful. There telling me to use the bios fan control wich doesn't exist or to use I read elsewhere they might have implemented a bios block, keeping systems from reverting to an older bios. Support emailed me a beta version of biosFB05 but i'm having the same issue of "SmartFlash not compatible with this machine".

Hi sorry I can not be more help, it's been almost a year since I rolled back the bios and cannot remember how I did it. From memory I followed a procedure from this forum for rolling back after using one if the custom gpu modified bios, might have even been for a p35.... i remember thinking "I hope this works" just before doing it...and it did.

Just did a search and could not find anything... maybe try looking through the modified gpu bios threads, see if you can find something similar.
