Once you get it, it would be great to hear an opinion/review of the 1080 screen, since all the current reviews are using the 3k. Pictures/video would be great.....

So how is the machine itself? I am planning to get the same model as well, but I would like to hear some first experience thoughts on the machine and how it stacks up against modern titles?

How's the flexing of the keyboard?
How's the screen?
How's the overall performance?
How are the fan noise levels both on idle and while gaming?

 

Here's some links to a dude on YouTube who did some impressions and review that could provide some insight more than standard reviews (2nd video is an hour ):

 

Limited to zero flex on the keyboard.
The screen is beautiful, 120hz IPS (not tn panel like some other brands).
Outstanding smashes Far Cry Primal at over 60fps with DSR and G-Sync on (DSR off fps increases to 90-100fps).
Idling the fans are inaudible unless in a particularly warm environment, gaming they're a bit noisy (pay off for this much performance in a slim laptop).

Just a note, my AORUS with GTX 1070 slightly overclocked performs on par with Razer pro with GTX 1080.

 

@MiSJAH could you specify the exact panel model? Also any striping issues like the x7 v6 user have?

The panel is AUO52ED, and no striping issues whatsoever. I think that only affects the 17" 2k screen.

 

Hey MiSJAH, You stated that the panel on your X5 is an 120hz IPS as other ppl have claimed that these panels on the Aorus X5-X7 are TN or am i mistaken or is that just on the X7 1440p panels? Thanks

So what are your overall impressions of this machine MisJAH, like pros and cons .

 

Coming from an IPS screen I can tell the difference. General browsing is less pleasant? But gaming @120Hz is superb.

Size is amazing, so much power in such a sleek device.

Can be a little warm and noisy, but nothing headphones won't block out.

For non gaming it's quieter than my GT72.

The kb is as good if not better than the GT also.

Have started to write a review, will post when it's done.

Sorry for pestering you bud , last question an then i promise to wait for your review , how are you finding the WiFi card, there is a lot of talk of the killer card dropping connection whilst gaming and general use?

 

Had killer on the GT too. Ditch the suite, use purely the driver = no issues.

I'm hoping you can do some focus on the 120Hz 5ms display since that's the one piece that is not in any of the x5 v6 reviews. Pictures and impressions of the horizontal and vertical angles would be great, as well as overall quality of the display (especially if you have a colorimeter).

Has anyone here ordered their X5 V6 CF2 from Newegg, if so do you know what RAM it contains, make/manufacture, thanks.

 

I like the X5 V6. Sticker shock did me in. It commands a $500 premium over the P35 v6 (4k edition). I can call it a wash on the x5's 3k display (though I prefer the p35x's 4k)--but where does the other $500 of value come from? Keyboard looks slick...but that's maybe a $100 upgrade for me. Last time I bought a laptop I spent 2100 on a 3k gaming rig...and the X5 is even 200 bucks above that.

I get what Gigabyte is trying to do, but following in Dell's footsteps with Alienware is a stupid idea. So I got the P35X v6 for $1800 instead of the same GPUslightly-lower-resolution-display on the X5 v6 for $2300.

Hi there, I had the P35V6 and wasn't satisfied at all. It went back a few days later. The temperatures and noise were unbearable. >90°C with full speed fan. So there was a lot of throtteling. It's definetly not worth the money.
Got me a Clevo P650RS instead. Totally satisfied. Same storage options, better sound and cool. Slightly thicker.

 

Maybe post that in the appropriate thread? Not the AORUS X5 thread.

Is the 120hz really worth it on the aorus for gaming? I do some photoshop on the side and im asking if the difference between the IPS and 120hz TN is night and day in terms of color reproduction?

Hey man wat are is room temperature. I mean ambient temperature. I can't get the minimum to that low. And my cpu max temps are about 85c. Gpu 80c

Hey man. I understand wat u are saying. But the price premium is for a bigger battery better ssd and a better cooling solution. Overall I think it is worth the extra money u pay. And u get gsync too and at 3k res gsync is gonna matter to you.

I was under impression that the chassis the x5 and p35x use...are the same. So how would the x5 have better cooling? And my SSD is 512, not 128/256. Link to specs comparison?

 

The chassis is definitely different. Ssd in p35x is m.2 and in Aorus is nvme.

Also the CPU is a 6820hk unlocked. And u get only 2 ram slots on the p35 and 4 on Aorus

These machines are poles apart , build quality of the Aorus is far superior than the gigabyte, the thermals on the Aorus are far superior, like it was mentioned by another chap the battery is bigger, the SSD is faster, the CPU is superior, more memory slots, more storage slots if i am not mistaken, i could go on but you must have understood by now the premium price tag .

 

Noted. Still hard to justify the $500 premium, imho.

 

Actually i ordered mine from newegg for $2200 , if you keep an eye out you can pick up a bargain .

 

According to their respective sites, both are listed with 2000Mb/s for the hard drive.

Anyone have open-case pics of both to compare heatsink/fans/cooling?

for reference, this review looks nearly identical to the reviews I've read about the p35x. So different chassis, but same cooling performance & noise?

$500 price difference is style, you can't put a dollar figure on that.

If you are happy with a standard looking notebook get a Gigabyte, if you want some that looks awesome get an AORUS.

 

I would also like to know how you got temperatures like that. Even the best cooled lappies I ever saw had a hard time not going above 70 in gaming.

 

To be fair a 6 hour session, with the fans at a reduced level (not wake the sleeping woman) saw a peak of 91°C. But normally I'd allow the fans to run on auto at the best speed to keep things cool.

 

There's also some review sites putting the standard stress temps much higher than 80.

This looks like a great model but looking at how it's built I can't help but believe the people who call this a running train when it comes to noise and a toaster when it comes to heating.

 

The laptop is actually not as toasty as u think I would get. Temps are under control. Fan noise is the only issue. They get loud, but a headphone should do the trick.
