Huh i managed to push my memory wayy further. Wonder whats up with that. 180 wasnt the most stable for me but it held throughout the firestrike run without crashing

Er......so this happened;
Full Thermal Grizzly liquid metal repast on CPU and GPU.
Kapton tape around the CPU and Scotch 33+ electrical tape around the GPU.
Many thanks to @Mobius 1 on discord for the advice.
@Jared_T , I'm at a bit of a loss. I'm struggling to get any respectable results on firestrike these days.
Max clock offset +139
Mem offset +80
CPU @ 4.2Ghz
Give me a score of 15,171.

Hows the repaste going? Dont see anything wrong with those pics unless im really blind
Same. Dont think i can extract anymore from my X7. Every run nets me lower results

Did you have a look at the thermal pad dimensions if any? I think I will also change those.

Funny thing is Aorus doesnt use thermal pads. Looks to be something akin to K5 Pro

A 200w power brick really was a terrible choice from the start. Pretty sure more can be squeezed out if you had more power headroom since thermally you have quite a bit
Sent from my ONEPLUS A5000 using Tapatalk -
I ambiguous about the power brick. I think there's a 16K FS score in this machine without the need for more power.
I'm going to push it again and see what I can get.Jared_T likes this. -
All the best mate! Dont kill your machine again haha
In the meantime, anyone know where to get a replacement v6 keyboard? Or at least a keycap. My left Alt key decided to break free and wont stick it properly anymore. Help is sorely wanted. Its annoying as all hell as i have game movement settings bound to it and it really doesnt help when it randomly flies out in the middle of a firefight

Switch it with the right alt key for the tine being? -
Anyone here with the X5 V7?
-
Problem is i dont know how to extract it properly. And also because the housing for the keycap looks wayy different. Like its damaged or smtg

Pictures of the removed keycap and the key itself could help figure out how to
Or
You could try to contact aorus via the forum or mail for help with it
On another note, how are the colours of the keyboard without the keycap? -

Is anyone having the problem that the display after fresh factory reset is not as clear or sharp or good as when it came out of the box?
-
Yup, me but I'm having thermal issues for the moment. See my previous posts.TyroG likes this.

What do you think of the noise of the laptop? Battery? Thanks and also can you do a firestrike benchmrk?
For your temps problems, I suggest to try undervolting. It will reduce heat for sure -
Well my CPU most probably not pasted correctly since I often get thermal throttling at 4.2MHz so the fans will go crazy quite fast accordingly during benchmarks. I have an "office" xtu profile with -145mV at 3.9MHz (stock) combined with steep fan curve the laptop volume is totally ok. When gaming on overclocked graphics you need headphones but that's just the way of life. Here's my sore http://www.3dmark.com/3dm/21189957. But with CPU throttleing and I can't get higher than +105 stable on gpu clock (bad luck probably). Oh by the way you can just put your xtu profiles in the CC application folder and it will automatically be applied

@Flux42 Thanks for info! So the X5V7 crush the X5 MD in performance.... I hope the X5 MD is atleast quieter and have better temps then.
-
Well if you manage to bring back stock 1080 clocks then you would do better. I have no idea wether the gpu overclock is somehow restricted on md variants.

I've been able to get a higher Fire Strike score than the one posted above with my x5 MD. Every time I run it it's slightly different, but I've gotten 14,560

Not sure what you are looking for... are temps better after repaste? But, your scores are less? If you have better temps than before you should be getting the same or better score - lack of power will limit performance - but you should get at least as good as before.
Unless...
If your repaste gave more headroom to the CPU you might be giving it the power and starving the GPU - before the CPU might have been throttling earlier reducing power draw and allowing the GPU to have what it needs for a higher graphics score.
Now that the CPU isn't throttling as early, the GPU isn't getting the power it needs.
Try limiting the CPU power usage, set all cores to 37x or some such and see if giving more power to your GPU makes the scores go up - more power better scores, for either unit that gets the power - GPU or CPU.Last edited: Jul 27, 2017MiSJAH likes this. -
Did you overclock the cpu and gpu too? Anyway it's not a bad score but still inferior to the GTX 1070. Now if the X5 MD is quiet and temps are good... not bad imo.hmscott likes this.

Temps are better at high stress but around the same at idle.
But my firestrike gpu score is ~750 points lower. I'm really scratching my head about this.
http://www.3dmark.com/compare/fs/12865181/fs/13216610# <-- comparison of scores.
My gpu is not boosting as high as previously.
Any advice gratefully received. -
Driver update in between? Changed quite a lot for me.

Nope.

Has anyone changed the keyboard on the v6 AORUS models?
I've been quoted £100 delivered for the keyboard from the U.K. AORUS partner, or £170 for them to fit it.
(My wonderful Mrs knocked a can of monster over the keyboard. Everything works fine but no response from the keyboard).

Your various X5's have really been through the trenches, haven't they?
-
***update***
Removed keyboard and drowned with isopropyl alcohol then left to dry and it works again, backlighting too. keys '8' and '7' take a little extra pressure now though. So will likely still get the replacement keyboard.
@Jared_T I used a credit card to pry the keyboard up from the body of the X5. Working gently around the perimeter. There is one connector roughly under the 'E' key on the keyboard.
Rather straightforwards in the end. -

Not sure, may still have some residue behind those keys.
Will remove and wash again and update. -
MendIT in the UK. They are a terrible company but I'll buy the KB and fit myself.
Did you find a supplier locally yet? -
In malaysia no unfortunately. Looks like i'll have to source it somewhere else and fit it in person. Does that company have spares for the X7?
-
PM'd.

Hey guys -- this is kind of a dumb question but I've tried to read through as much as possible here. How is the X5 V6 in general? Should I run away? I have a friend who wants to trade me my:
Alienware 13 R3 w/ 7700HQ 1080p 16GB, 256GB SSD, 500GB SSD + 2 power adapters + Graphics amp
for his Aorus X5 V6 (1070, 120hz, 16GB, 6820HK)
You guys think it's a good trade?MiSJAH likes this. -
My X5V6 is awesome. If you want portability and power take it.

Will do -- ill likely do a repaste, does this void the warranty?MiSJAH likes this. -
Speak to your local AORUS/gigabyte rep.
And be cautious with liquid metal if you choose that route

Just going to be using Kryonaut -- nothing crazy. Is this not a an easy answer? Alienware/Dell let's you repaste.hmscott likes this. -
Some companies are kinda iffy on their policies and it often differs by region so if i were you, i would still check with your rep/supplier just to be safe
-

What do you mean? Does it void the warranty or not? I don't have a rep or supplier -- it was purchased from newegg. -
Then check with them

You guys need to stop beating around the damn bush. http://forum.aorus.com/forum/gaming...us-x7-v6-mid-april-2017-mini-review-questions
"As for the warranty, the short answer is, yes the warranty is voided when the sticker is broken, but that is up to the service team to decide. So for example, if the display becomes faulty, the RMA team will take into consideration that you have changed the thermal paste and if that could add to the cause of a faulty display." -
The question should be answered by an AORUS representative not someone on a forum.

And, ask it in writing - not over the phone.
Do it in a ticket and save that ticket and their response offline so if it gets "expired" and archived you still have it on record - whatever they say.
If they don't give you the answer you want the first time, try again a little later and word it differently - submit it 12 hours shifted from last time to get a different person, and get them to agree and ok the work before you do it

So you guys are saying this -- and beating around the bush:
"Yes, it will void your warranty. Sometimes they'll void it, sometimes they won't depending who you get. Ask them and document them flip flopping" -
No, that isn't what I am saying.
Asus, MSI, and others have all said, over and over, the warranty sticker is to slow down the inexperienced - those that have to ask - don't already know that as long as you don't break something while in there that causes problems you want the vendor to fix you are fine doing work in there on your own.
I am adding that if this is your first rodeo, calm yourself and confirm this with them, getting it in writing so you don't panic down the road, and if you get a jerk tech that wants to play you you have the OK to do the work in writing to copy / paste back to him - or his manager.
We aren't going to tell you it's ok to do it, even though we have our own copies of confirmation with our vendors, because they told us, they didn't tell you. Our agreement is with them.
You need the same agreement in writing to protect yourself, and as @MiSJAH says, to confirm your locale rules.MiSJAH likes this. -
No.
Simply ask AORUS for an actionable response.
In the U.K. The AORUS country manager has stated upgrades are fine and they will honour the warranty as long as the user causes no damage.
Other locales have different rules.

Moderator of /r/Alienware here -- far from inexperienced (I still have a 15 and 17 R4) -- I just want a straight answer. I've never dealt with Gigabyte support and want to make sure I can repaste without issue.
