Getting slightly lower RW speeds than Samsung advertised for 960EVO 1TB but deviation is very little.

I've found Intel HDG running 3 external displays (both ports occupied) with no 1060 influence, and all of the displays are visible and configurable through Intel Graphics Settings.
I've double checked 1060 is not running in Smart Manager DB after configuring external displays in Intel GCP. -
Not an expert but i think dGPU is connected to IGP and IGP always renders final image (works as a proxy for dGPU when dgpu is active) so i guess that Aero 15x 's mDP and HDMI ports are connected to IGP (not to dGPU).
Anyway, Aero 15x specs says: Supports Optimus (but not Supports G-sync)MetaRvB likes this. -
Well, tryed to install smart update and when the computer start I got a message "urgent stop working". After the start, if I try to re launch smart update, it works.
I'm not sure about the exact terms as I translate the message.
Smart manager is a must have to use this computer
Please help

Hi,
proud owner of an Aero 15X here. I just have one single issue:
when unplugged the CPU clock is too low even for everyday use (firefox, basic windows use), it lags too much.
To be more precise core temp reads the CPU frequency as 3600 Mhz (100 x 36) plugged in, and 800 Mhz (100 x 8) unplugged. The values oscillate but more or less tyhis are the ranges.
Having a 800 Mhz processor is quite a drag these days, I understand they're trying to optimize battery life but it is unusable like this.
Is there a way to speed up the unplugged clock a bit? I've looked inside the BIOS but there are no settings for this in there.
Thanks! -
I believe i've heard somewhere that whenever you have Optimus, there is never G-sync support, regardless of the external monitor. The reason for this is most likely somewhere along the line what you've said.
-
Set your power plan switching to manual in the smart manager and manually select a less battery efficient power plan.
-
It's weird because even when I unplugged the laptop the power plan stays on High performance, anyway I have just tried the powercfg CMD file solution a few pages back in this thread and now my cpu clock stays around 2500 Mhz when unplugged (and still in High power plan).
I'm gonna try your solution as well now, thanks!
EDIT: Thanks man, I've never used power management before, it did the trick! So happy.
cheers!Last edited: Jan 24, 2018 -
So is this normal for this 512 ssd that came with the aero15?

Yep

Thank you. I fell like i am always worried something is wrong.

It's all good. I think the only way you'll get relatively higher speeds is to upgrade to a NVME drive.
-
On a side note, one of my function keys managed to dislodge itself. Where would I find key replacements? I remember I found keys and switches for my MSI, but I can't seem to find any for this laptop.
-
Have you tried switching off all color adjustments from the smart manager? Like switch off the pantone calibration and switch smart color back to native?
-
Has antone noticed when you wake your computer from sleep or power cycle that the pantone is not automatically selected? If so how do you fix that? It randomly happens for me.

There are more color options in the Nvidia Control Panel, maybe you can play with that?
-
So what's the problem exactly then? The message?
-
Yep, I've tried that. It doesn't bother me too much unless I'm using the UI a lot since that's what usually causes the colour shifting.
I can't find any. I think those only appear if the connected display is running of the nvidia gpu. -
2 questions for others, does your wireless suck? I have to move around by a few inches to get a connection that works, even though it shows 3 bars.
Also, when you move the curser via mouse or touchpad, in a quiet room, does anyone else hear an electrical hum near the monitor, it's only when I move the mouse around though, quite audible to me in a dead silent room. -
I have not had issues with the wifi at all.
The mouse movement i have noticed on quite a few different computers. If it bothers and it loud enough to hear while sitting normally with the laptop on your lap or desk with even other noise going on. Id say its louder than usual. I dont think anything is wrong with it unless it is screaming at you but if you don't like it then return it.

Weird. Out of the box, the balanced profile has a 1400 MHz maximum processor frequency when running on battery, but the setting is hidden.
I don't know why yours is 800. You can reveal the setting with a registry change, so the option appears in advanced power settings > processor power management > maximum processor frequency.

Is miniDP fully functional? If I was to get a 100+ hz monitor, I want to make sure Aero can actually output more than 60 frames to it. I heard somewhere that I'd need to get an "active" DP wire.
Still not sure from y'all discussion if G-sync works or not. I guess it's a win win anyway - if it works, then great. If it doesn't then no need to buy an expensive monitor. -
You're right about the active mDP cable (mDP to HDMI). You could try and do it over HDMI but I couldn't get it to work because my firend's monitor has an older standard of HDMI and can only do 144Hz over DVI.
-
Yes, I've been playing SWBF 2 @ 144 hz over mini dp.

Is it only 144hz or is g-sync enabled too?

No g sync on this model.

So, i know that the laptop doesn't have g-sync on its internal monitor as i already own a 15X.
However on some laptops, such as MSI stealth line, display port is directly routed to the dedicated GPU. Meaning that you can use an external monitor with g-sync enabled.
What i'm wondering is if that is the case in Aero since i don't have a g-sync monitor to try with.
Unless you have a hands on experience with the laptop please refrain answering by looking at the tech. specs.Vistar Shook, CedricFP and factory_666 like this. -
I know that the HDMI port is connected directly to the GPU, have not been able to test the mDP port.
-
My monitor isn't gsync so I couldn't tell you.

Would definitely be interested to know about G-Sync through mDP as well.

Sorry about that, since an Asus laptop I bought in the US to sell in Brazil with a 1060 and mini display port didn't seem to work on my g sync monitor, I just assumed what I read on the net about it not being possible with optimus and such as true.....didn't know that some are wired differently like the msi stealth. Hopefully it works on the aero, I have one coming in two weeks or so as an order, so if it works, I might not sell it...

But.. MSI stealth line doesn’t implement Nvidia Optimus, does it?
-
Definitely, no G-Sync! Impossible! G-sync can't live along with Optimus. Never! There is NO laptop implementing G-sync and Optimus... There are some laptops using multiplexers for being able to switch between IGP and dGPU (it has some cons too), but they are not (certified) Optimus Nvidia just because they are not implementing Optimus architecture.
To summarize, Aero 15X implements Optimus? Aero 15x has no g-sync at all.
Cheers. -

Well that is what redq pointed out, the msi stealth has optimus, and g sync works through the mDP ,because it is wired directly to the dGPU, bypassing optimus if you will.CedricFP likes this. -
Thanks for replying, I am thinking it might be the hotel I was in, it seems OK when I am at home. The noise is quite noticeable if its all quiet, but I can probably ignore it.
-
Has meltdown or spectre effect the performance of this laptop because I'm thinking of buying
-
Someone in here stated that if the laptop is in high power mode you will hear some coil whine. I did notice this but only if its in a completely silent room and i have it in my laptop while hunched over on a couch. If you change it to power save or balanced it goes away completely. I noticed the charger has some serious noise coming from it. If its charging while say playing a game it gets pretty hot and loud. I can hear it from 4 or 5 feet away. It quiets down once its charged.

anyone knows how to completely disable the battery when i have the laptop connected to power?
when i bought the laptop about 3 months ago i was able to get 4 hours of battery in power save mode using the intel graphic card only and screen at minimum light, but now i can't even get 2 hours. seems like having the laptop o permanent power is killing the battery. i was able to easily remove the battery on all my previous laptops when i didn't need to charge, but i can't do that on Aero 15 due to the laptop bad design, so... a way to turn off the charging would be great. -
Is smartmanager configured for power save mode? Also screen brightness affect battery life. Also change the power settings. If you jad messed with the settings for the cpu amd sleep time and what not those greatly affect battery life. It also depends on what your doing. If web browsing in power save you should get more. If your doing more itll be alot less.

all on power save and minimum, except the brightness that i'm using at 20.
the problem is that the battery seems to be dying really fast.
i have a sony vaio with 10 years that still give me 2 hours of battery life, and this one is giving me the same in 3 months of use. obviously the sony vaio that i own was a better laptop for the time, but still, i was expecting to get at least 4 hours on Aero 15 for browsing. -
I hear your problem. Check the setting and check to see what the cpu percentage is set to while on batter in power saver. Is smart manager set to power saver? Is the fan speed in smart manager set to quiet? Is bluetooh off? What are you doing while its draining that fast?

Off topic question here: after searching this thread I haven't found any posts with official 'benchmarks' so to speak, but I will be undervolting a PC for the first time and I'll be doing it with my Aero 15x. I've started playing the Witcher 2 (high settings, but almost 6 years old now) and it's bring temps near to 80C which is a bit of a concern.
My question is has anyone else done this kind of thing here for the graphics card as well? Is that helpful in any way? -
Why do you want to under volt it? Just turn the fan speed to normal. Or go in the power settings and chenge it cpu maximum to 90 or 95 percent.

Considering Aero 15 or Aero 15X. I'm only thinking of Aero 15X because I heard it fixes a lot of the previous versions problems as well as the upgraded GPU but I don't know if its worth it. Do you think the Aero 15 still holds up?
-
I would say it's worth it if you could use the extra power from the maxQ GTX1070, and if you can actually find one.
-
How safe is it to "Go back to the previous version of Windows"?
On my Aero 15x I accidentally hit "Shutdown and Update" instead of regular Shutdown (don't use infrared mouse on a couch) before I had a chance to create a recovery drive. Now I'm having a couple of issues that people complain about here, such as slight stutter when you click on "battery" or right clicking on desktop. Not a big deal but I'm worried it might bbring more. -
I had to look up coil whine, and that is kind of it, but it only is audible when you move the mouse. It does emit the sound from around the 6 to 9 number keys.
-
If I put my ear right on the keyboard I hear an alternating frequency noise. Its very quiet I think that is just how it is. If you can hear it clear as day while the laptop is on your lap or a desk then I think that may be a slight problem. I really do like the aero 15 but I am not sure about it still. I called gigabyte and talked to their tech support and asked about some of the minor issues I have. They said it was the same on their test model they had. From keyboard back lighting, minor coil while while in high perfomance and playing a game, the charger making noise while charging and playing a game, and the hinge. They said it seemed weak but it holds up and the degree at which the screen goes to sleep. It seems like this is a solid laptop. I just have some problems with it that are small quirks of mine that I need to get over. I tend to look at this and expect it to be everything I want it to be and be flawless. Even though there are really no flaws its just not how I would like it to work.
-
I just noticed this. Has anyone noticed there laptop fans make a noise before they turn on? In smart manager change the profile to normal and the fans should turn on. Mine both make a small electrical noise for a split second. Just checking if this is normal or not. I assume it is.
-
I notice a weird sound but I just assume that's what it's supposed to sound like. I get the same sound when switching from quiet to normal (i.e fan off to not).
