Do a clean installation of the driver, and disable/uninstall geforce experience. They solve a lot of my performance issues.

I'm glad my post was useful for some sort of reference, even if the models are different!
The Unigine fps is around 10% better on your 15x vs my 15, and from what I understand the 1070MQ tends to do about 10~15% better than the 1060 in laptops, so that's perhaps in line, but obviously it'll be better to compare against other 1070MQ scores.
What kind of clock rates do you see usually on the 15x's 1070MQ? -
I just tried another install, checked "clean" this time - no difference. :/ I have never installed Geforce experience - always uncheck that.
Yes, it is helpful even if the model is different. I will run some of the other benchmarks to compare. According to Valley the clock is at 1544 Mhz.
Weird thing is when I tab over to Smart Manager the dashboard there shows the GPU running at only 30-50% - it peaks out at ~ 66% for brief periods. Never gets close to 100%. Maybe I can try MSI Afterburner and see if that gives better monitoring. -
Have you checked the settings of your "performance" power plan? It's possible that Link State Power Management is on.
-
And it happened again...Blue Screen on "FAULTY_HARDWARD_CORRUPTED_PAGE"
Event log says:"The computer has rebooted from a bugcheck. The bugcheck was: 0x0000012b (0xffffffffc00002c4, 0x0000000000000de9, 0x000000000cd48540, 0xffffe00027af6000). A dump was saved in: C:\WINDOWS\MEMORY.DMP. "
When running Smart Update, it offers to downgrade some drivers, i.e. Intel Management Engine and Intel Graphic.
I don't know whether this is important as I'm running on a second screen with the lid closed so the Intel GPU is not used at all.Last edited: Mar 6, 2018 -
It is not necessary, in fact most of my drivers have higher versions than those listed in smart update.

My aero 15 battery died, and I’d like to open the laptop to see what’s going on inside. However, I’ve taken off all the screws and I see no way to remove the back further...
Any suggestions? Shockingly there are zero resources for this anywhere online. Thanks! -
Try prying at the bottom corners and slowly pull them up and away. I used tape at some point, but a thin flathead screwdriver/guitar pick helps as well.
-
Oh really? I was trying that but it felt super wrong and like I was going to break it. I’ll give it a try, thank you!

Got it open, unplugged the battery and plugged it back in and I still have a non functioning battery
Customer support is telling me to RMA, but I'm a game dev student and cannot be without a computer for more than a day let alone weeks. Any idea on what to do? Are there aftermarket batteries I can replace this with? Gigabyte said the only thing that would affect my warranty is messing with the cooling/fan, so I feel like replacing the battery myself would be acceptable. -
Can you use it when it's plugged in?
Maybe you can use it like that and order a new battery -
Yeah I can use it when it’s plugged in, it’s just kind of a pain since I’m out and about so often. Is the battery in the Aero 15 a generic one? Can I just buy a replacement on amazon?
-
checked, it is off.
Also updated firmware, no change. -
It's not generic, but I assumed you could find it somewhere.
-
I ran Firestrike and got the following:
Aero 15/1060 from CedricFP - 9669 total/11364 graphics
Aero 15X - 12165 total/14822 graphics
Aorus x5v7 - 13147 total/17023 graphics
So based on that the 15X looks pretty good. Must be something weird with OpenGL and/or the Valley benchmark... -
Yeah that looks right in line with Notebookcheck's review of the 15x at 14607 graphics score: https://www.notebookcheck.net/Gigab...D-Laptop-Review.262370.0.html#toc-performance

The GeForce experience bugged out sure enough - would show "Downloading" for the driver but stay at 0%. After I restarted it, it now shows 100% but still says "Downloading" with no option to install it. In any case I ended up fixing my issue without updating the drivers - originally Assassin's Creed 0 started crashing all of a sudden. Turned out that installing Forza 7 had added some small NVidia files to the Nvidia folder. After rolling back to "pre-Forza" Windows state the files were deleted and Assassin's Creed 0 started working again. Bizarre antics of PC-gaming.
By the way - do you just install the latest drivers on your Aero, or do you install only the ones that Aero website shows: https://www.gigabyte.com/Laptop/AERO-15X#support-dl -
I install the latest drivers since the gigabyte drivers are quite dated.factory_666 likes this.

Just wanted to say that battery life was around 2 hours ish for light use but after updating Smart Manager via Smart Update, battery life has improved drastically. Now it is atleast over 5 or 6 hours. Awesome!
-
Hi sorry about late reply.
I followed "Method 2" from this link - http://www.intowindows.com/fix-slow-desktop-right-click-in-windows-10/ -
You probably had the old smart manger which kept emptyproject11.exe active, which keeps the GPU on but idle.
-
Having an issue with smart update it will just hang at the start up screen , i tried re downloading already and still nothing. Anyone have this issue and fixed it?
Edit- It was my Logitech mouse software messing around with the program , weird. all i did was close the Logitech app and it opened.
Edit- still not working nowLast edited: Mar 31, 2018 -
In my opinion Gigabyte's driver support is pretty mediocre and depends whether you rely on Smart Update or also manually check official support web page as Smart Update is not as smart as its name insinuates.
For example, as mentioned earlier, Smart Update offers to download a new driver if the installed driver version does not match the version Smart Update provides. There's no check whether the installed driver might have a newer version. So this update tool should be more aptly named Stupid Update.
Additionally, sometimes Gigabyte's support page provides more up to date drivers than Smart Update. That's currently true regarding driver for NVidia's graphics:
- Smart update provides version "22.21.13.8266", which I decode as version 382.66 according to Nvidia's version number format. It does so at least since August 2017.
- Gigabyte's official driver page offers version "23.21.13.8878" dated 2018/01/30.
-
You decode correctly. I just downloaded the 23.21.13.8878 display driver from the Aero 15 support page, and it is Nvidia's ver 388.78.

If I understood correctly, Smart USB Backup is basically only copying the hidden recovery partition to a USB drive. I have done the USB backup on a 64GB USB3.0 drive, but it's a waste of space (not even half of storage space is used).
I'm interested in the following:
If I upload the complete contents of the USB Stick to the cloud (eg. Google Drive), can I later in case of need copy all that data back onto the USB drive and be able to restore the original recovery partition in that way? I would like to remove hidden partition from the internal SSD drive (moar storage!) and also free up my USB3.0 stick.
How would I make the USB stick bootable again if I needed to restore from USB? -
I also used Smart USB Backup but bought a 32 GB USB stick specifically for this use. The current backup files take 12,7 GB. So even a 16 GB stick should be enough but maybe not future-proof.
I assume you can do what you want: if once needed, make the USB stick bootable following a tutorial on the internet (for example https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-server-essentials/install/create-a-bootable-usb-flash-drive ) and then put all files on it from the cloud.
How it should look like then (screenshot from EaseUS Partition Master. I couldn't switch it to English, sorry)
-> FAT32, MBR, Status 'Active', Type "Primary"Vipeout likes this. -
Interesting, I received my Aero15 two weeks ago and did a USB backup first thing after booting up and the backup size ended up being ~17GB.
I bought a USB stick specifically for this use as well, my plan was to split the 64GB Stick into two 32GB partitions. I could do that via the Win10 disk manager, but unfortunately Smart USB Backup is deleting the two partitions when reformatting the stick for backup. I have not found a way to make use only one of the partitions, which is why I end up with a mostly empty 64GB backup drive.
Regarding future-proofness, my understanding is that the backup partition is always the same and doesn't change, regardless of what u install. Therefore your backup will never be bigger than 12,7 GB -
Hum I thought that the USB backup is based on the current Windows version installed and was actually planning to re-do my USB backup after the coming Spring Creators Update release but indeed what you say makes probably more sense: it would be based on the hidden recovery partition which never changes. As I bought mine last summer, my recovery partition is probably an older Windows version (Creators Update?) than yours (Fall Creators Update?)
I have 2 recovery partitions: one which is 986 MB and another one which is 12,06 GB. -
Hi guys I read all the 212 pages of this topic because I was interested to buy this little toy.
After 212 pages my opinion is changed: I discovered that if I buy this PC I have the moderate probability to face with ghosting keyboard, blb display, stupid bloatware, weak hinges and probably the monitor model is not that good one that was include in the online review, but a cheaper one (Chimei?).
I was concerned also about some cases where the PC got unexpected failure besides the young age.
In addition to that, I need italian keyboard, but I didn't figure out if an italian version exists, because an Aero 15 in Italy is very hard to find available.
Do you confirm that it's still possible to face with ghosting keyboards that don't get combos properly? I need a PC to game with and to develop designs - 3Ds - photos, so I can't live without a decent monitor and a proper keyboard
That's a pity because on the paper this is the PERFECT machine for me: decent monitor, nice GPU, interesting battery life, smooth fans, eGPU connection...
The 1st alternative is a Dell XPS 15' (I already own a Full HD version) but the GPU is smaller (GTX 1050), the fans aren't as smooth as the Aero's and the Full HD monitor seems soooooooooooooooooooooo slow (ghosting), so much slow that if I watch a F1 race it seems a bit blurry despite the 50p framerate.
Thank you so much.Last edited: Mar 14, 2018 -
Have you looked at the Razer Blade? Smaller display, but its display is much, much nicer than the Aero 15. Same GPU as the Aero 15, similar specs otherwise, nicer case, better trackpad in my opinion. Fan noise is louder than Aero 15 though. Here in the US the Blade is actually a few hundred dollars cheaper than the Aero 15 at this time.
-
After installing this driver, Aero 15 does not reliably detect my secondary display any more. :-(
Usually, I work with the lid closed so my secondary display is my main display. I only open the lid to switch on my Aero 15. Most of the time, the second display was detected and switched to automatically so that I could see the logon screen on the second display. Sometimes I had to switch to the second display using Windows + P.
Now with the new driver, after waking up from hibernation, the second display is not detected reliably. Windows setup shows a second display but does not identify it and I can not switch to it.
I might need to turn to http://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx to download the latest reference driver from NVidia. Despite what I said about the OEM certified drivers, Gigabyte did not certify the 23.21.13.8878. Its installer was signed by Nvidia and thus I think, Gigabyte did no special customizations or optimizations to the driver. From that I conclude that I might as well download and install the reference driver from NVidia. -
Maybe off topic, but I returned my Aero 15 and have a brand new, unused, still-sealed charger for it that I definitely no longer need. Would anybody be interested in purchasing it as an extra for themselves? Apparently, they sell for $115... but I'm not looking for that much.

Hey guys, After almost 2 months of ownership of Aero 15x, I am still not satisfied with the battery life. It was marketed as 7-9 hours but so far
all I've got was 6 hours and 45 minutes at best according to battery bar app. I am only doing light works like e-mail and typing. My screen brightness
is only 250 nits and I am always on battery saver on. I would just like to ask if this is the same with yours?
PS. Is there any way I can still improve the battery life of my laptop? -
Make sure that the power plan you are using is not High Performance, since that keeps the CPU pegged at a high base clock.
-
How am I going to change that? The only thing that I have change was the 3D settings of NVIDIA and put the integrated GPU as the one
who renders. But for the CPU, how would I do it? -
You can check the power plan in Smart Manager, or right click on your battery icon and go to power options. I use mine on balanced and it has helped with my power consumption and temps (I did not realise that high performance does that).
-
Alright. Thank you. Can I use that balanced setting even in playing games? Since my CPU is reaching 90 degrees Celsius when I am playing even though I have already
undervolted it to -150mv. -
Yes. High Performance keeps the CPU at ~3.6GHz, whereas Balanced is at ~2.8GHz. I used to have that same problem, even after a LM re-paste.droidfury likes this.
-
Okay thank you. I'll observe if this settings can make any improvements. I just notice that even though I have already put the battery saver in power options, the smart manager displays a different setting.
-
If you're talking about the battery saver from windows 10 and not the traditional power plan, that won't show up in smart manager.
Currently I've set smart manager to auto where it switches to balanced when plugged in, and power saver when on battery. -
So where should I really go? I like that settings in the smart manager. I hope I can also do that with Gigabyte Fusion.
-
I've actually noticed my temps creeping up, possibly because ambient temp is going up (winter has ended), too, but when compared with the numbers in the link in my signature, I'm seeing higher temps over all, and that's with LM.
When I play BF1 for about an hour, for instance, I'll hit 90c and I never used to. -
Is there a way to stop automatic updates for Windows 10? My 15x keeps installing Fall Creators Update every week and I keep rolling back the previous version of Windows. It is extremely annoying, as it takes a long time to do it every time.
The issue with Fall Creators Update is that it makes the battery life shorter. It goes from max 11 hours down to 7 or 8 for me. Plus all the stuttering on desktop and I'm worried it ****s up even more things behind the curtains. -
It seems to be that when you charge the Razer Blade on the 220V network (Europe), speakers start humming :\
-
I have no way of testing this, as it's 115 V here (no speaker buzz, either). Can you post a link?
-
Look like BIOS FB0D/F008 is out. Anyone know what has changed?
-
Does this machine really has so many issues? It's nearly perfect for me, but after reading all this i think to buy a blade or xps instead. Does aero survive everyday trip in backpack?
-
Buy a laptop from a company that can give you decent support.
I also heavily recommend not buying a Blade. XPS15 is decent but an updated 15 is incoming.
