If you can afford it while you wait for a refund then do it while supplies last. Of course I don't know but I have a feeling they are going to be our b of stock soon once reviews come in and especially if they are positive reviews which I have a feeling they'll be. I believe all the OEM'S had time to fix the issues they had with 870m and did minor mods to improve their hardware but I'm just being positive and speculating.

Ordered OCUK version already. Its a matter of XoticPC not being up yet...damn them.
-
This is weird and almost creepy constantly checking for updates, phone is going mental trying to keep up with posts on this board and the GS60 and GS70 boards. Doing a great job Cakefish, so cheers.
-
Yeah but it's so AWESOME!
I sent them a cancellation email at 630 am PST.

How is OCUK shipping to the U.S.?
-
This evening I will be able to give you a proper tour of the laptop. For now I'm busy updating drivers, installing the necessary programs (GPU-Z and all that jazz) and checking for flaws like dead pixels and physical defects. I'll try and get to the good stuff asap - I desperately want to know how the 980M performs at 3K myself!
P.S. 3K display really is absolutely fantastic. Clarity is astonishing. Colours pop. Viewing angles go on forever. -
INT DHL, 2 - 5 days. Probably close to 2 or 3 if you're lucky. Better than any retailer here in the US.

Quick slacking and hurry up SLAVE! I kid on the slave part, hehehe. When and if you reduce resolution to play games, try lowering resolution on the desktop first then while in game to see if there is a difference running 3K reso and reducing reso while in game.

Sure you are checking most of this, but what I am hoping to see.
How well does 3k scale (photo of screen at 3k beside photo of screen at 1080p with a nice vibrant picture on it.)
Keyboard flex (you got this one already)
CPU/GPU temperatures during BF4 or similarly intensive game
Does Laptop pull over 180w in such games.
Overall build quality (Any parts feel loose, flimsy)
Gaming benchmarks at 3k, 1440p, 1080p
Edit: oh and duh how loud it is, and don't do the stupid at the vent measurement if you have a method of checking dBA then check at where your head is. -
Driver updates take looong time.
Fans (at maximum speed) are slightly louder and more high pitched when compared to my Clevo P170SM (to be expected). They aren't crazy loud. I'll test more later.
Everything you read is first impressions. Need a good few hours to get to grips with this beatie! Stay tuned. I'll keep updating with more snippets of info as I go... -
Good man.
Any chance of testing out an undervolt on the CPU (perhaps when you've settled down over the next few days)?maxheap likes this. -
Agreed, although if we are checking dB, then may as well have both vent and head, as then we can compare with other laptops (as long as we know which is which).
-
This.
Also, some close up pics of text in word at 3K and 1080p might do the trick as well, to see how blurry (or not), it gets.

360 viewing angle! You can see even from the back!
(laptop grants you sixth sense situation
)
EDIT: I must say I have never been this excited even for a laptop that I bought for myself
-
Wow, my OCUK has already been shipped, now THAT was quick (just re-placed order a couple hours ago).
-
Benchmarks soon. I'm getting there. There are many updates - BIOS, graphics, WiFi, Bluetooth, Windows - pretty much everything you can think of needs an update! I like to see that Gigabyte provides regular software/driver updates.
Installed Steam, Origin, UPlay etc. GPU-Z. Hardware Monitor.
Just a few more stuff to install... like Crysis 3
-
-
How is the build quality?
Did you find the screen hinges to be a potential issue? Or other parts? -
My battery is not charging past 97%. Is that normal? I guess it might be a safety feature in power settings somewhere. Maybe if I unplug it and let it discharge a little and then plug it back in and see what happens...
Still installing drivers (the software takes some time downloading the packages). Sorry for delay. -
CC Funds cleared!
Hope to have it before the weekend, so I can run some tests as well for you guys.Cakefish, ericc191, maxheap and 1 other person like this. -
Don't worry this happens a lot (and quite frankly it probably is a software problem, back in the time a HP workstation I had did it and it was a windows problem), doesn't charge past 95% sometimes because of some odd thing. It's fine. Take your time brother, you are already doing us the biggest favor!
-
Maybe it's reserved in case when AC is cutted while gaming, so the PSU does not stress out due to heavy GPU load, which will more than likely to cause BSOD.
Regards -
I am pretty certain your laptop will figure out the true max charge of your battery over a certain time period. The initial min and max are only preset estimates, and they likely go a few % above the expected max with the presets. Also some stop before hitting min and max to help increase battery life unless you change settings. Unless every minute of battery time is precious to you I would not worry about it.
-
I've heard of this happening in power management, but I'm unsure if this is a Windows 8.1 feature since I don't have it. Search around for a setting that stops the charger from charging after a certain percentage.
-
My external USB 3.0 HDD keeps on disconnecting over and over and over when plugged into one of the USB ports - this behaviour happens on my Clevo P170SM as well. Is it some sort of incompatibility with USB 2.0?
My mouse runs fine in the same USB port no disconnections whatsoever (which again, is the same case with my Clevo too). -
It might be USB 3.0 or your something faulty on external drive.
-
Might be the USB not giving enough power to the drive, which is weird having 3.0 ports. Do you have a "dual-connector" cable?
-
My F5 key is a shadow of its former self.
maxheap, flamy, Arthedes and 1 other person like this. -
The drive works fine in USB 3.0 ports but not USB 2.0 ports it seems... oh well! As long as the port is functional on the laptop, that is the important thing!
Almost down to the last driver update. Then I need to pop to the shop to get some food and then I shall benchmark 3K and 1080p and check thermals (and look for signs of throttling). And take pictures (hopefully). And test stuff... like speaker quality, microphone quality, display quality of IPS etc. -
Then is the USB 2.0 ports not delivering enough power to the hungry disk. It's normal. You might seen one of this:
http://i00.i.aliimg.com/wsphoto/v0/...nt-b-USB-b-font-3-0-power-font-b-Y-b-font.jpg
This is to get power from two USB ports, so the disk doesn't complain. Quite normal in laptops really.Cakefish likes this. -
And please a picture of heatsink/fans to compare to v2!
-
Are you sure its when your 3.0 is on the 2.0 ports? I've actually seen the exact opposite on several laptops. Where the 3.0 drive would disconnect constantly on 3.0 ports but work fine on 2.0 (except slower of course). THAT was irritating, never found a true fix other than changing to a different USB drive.
-
Cakefish you should have done a live streaming, you would have get a ton of watchers eating popcorns !
-
Battery is now charging to 100% after I let it discharge a little
Any software that can manually set a charge limit at a certain cut-off point (e.g. 90%, 80%, 50% etc.)? Seems to be the one big feature the Gigabyte Software Manager is missing.
Thanks! That would explain it then. My external HDDs only have one connector. Glad it isn't an abnormal fault.
Will do.
Works fine in USB 3.0 ports. Only plays up in USB 2.0 ports. -
I'd like to hear if anyone knows of anything too. To my knowledge, only Lonovo supplies software for doing this, and it works great. I would love to find something that would work on other branded laptops too.
-
Is there is any game anyone desperately wants me to benchmark? I will try to get as many done as possible tonight but I will eventually have to sleep... eventually. I have lectures again tomorrow morning, early (how inconvenient)
-
Take it to your lecture and test the noise level with Crysis 3! Or Witcher 2.
Regards. -
@Cakefish
Could you describe the overall build quality of the laptop?
Any squeaks in the chassis?
What is the brushed aluminim case like? Does it scratch quickly? Does it attract fingerprints a lot?
How is the keyboard and screen flex?
Is the screen firm in place when opened? Does it wiggle alot when moving the laptop or not at all?
Do you notice any keyboard ghosting?
How is the accuracy and response of the trackpad?
How is the 'click' of the keyboard keys, trackpad click and the power button?
What is the quality of the cd drive? Does it seem like it will break in half easily when opened or can it handle a budge or two?
Any other things you can think about
Thanks in advance.
I can't wait for your full written review!
BTW I recall some posts back that an Amarican user who would get the same model as you wanted to do a video review with you. This seems very interisting. What are you guys' plans on this? -
Sleep is for the weak
-
Hahah. That way you can test if the noise is irritating to other people or not. It is preferable you sit at the front to see if your near-deaf professor hears it too.
-
I would be happy with a simple stock, 3dmark11 on standard P settings just to compare. I was thinking it should be in the 10-11k range-ish?
Otherwise any game with a built in benchmark so we can try the same settings and see how our current laptop compares. -
Downloading 3DMark and installing some games. Then, like I say, gotta pop out to shop for food (will take about an hour) to give me energy to last into the night as long as possible!
@Arthedes noted. I'll try and answer as many as possible when I get back from the store!
I can still communicate with everyone while I'm out via the magic of 3G and Nexus 5 tapatalk app
By the way, should I use 344.00 or 344.60 driver for benchmarking?dajohu, RMXO, DelFang and 1 other person like this. -
Indeed. Sunday to monday I was studying till 4am and slept 3 hours before I had my exam

Amazingly everything rides on this review lol, I'm on the fence still (despite my ranting) between the 651SE/SG and the P35xv3...
Looking forward to this cake! I've always been a clevo person and this may just be the first time I stepped outside my safe circle
