Hi,
I've always wanted to maximize performance and increase the potential of my notebook.
My Gpu (9500M GS 512) runs a little hot already ( 60c idle to 85c max).
I've applied thermal paste etc. Now my question:
- Is it a good idea to overclock this gpu? Will it fry it?
- Will it be worth it? Will i actually see alot of difference?
- How do I overlock safely and without taking risks of a brick..
Thx

-Is it a good idea? Only if you know what you're doing. Overclocking too much can cause unstable systems or worse, permanent damage.
-Will it be worth it? Totally situational. My overclock netted me about 1000 more points in 3DMark06, and the games I play (TF2 & Audiosurf) run better at higher settings (even turned 2x AA/AF on for TF2!).
-How do I overclock safely? The same way everyone does - take baby steps in increasing clocks (10 MHz at a time for core, 5 for memory), and test stability constantly using something like 3DMark06 or ATiTool's artifact test. The latter is an exceptionally good tool for finding your OC's stability.
There are a few good guides out there - seek them out, and play it safe.
I personally did 5 MHz steps on the core while running ATiTool constantly, which took me to about 475 before I started noticing artifacts, then stepping back to 460 where it ran an hour without artifacts. I later stepped down again to 450 just to be safe. Ditto for the core. The shader clocks can be unlinked, by the way, and I knew I was able to get all the way up to 1425 MHz from prior overclocking. -
I'll leave oc'ing my GPU for what it is
I heard rumours about the ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4650... Some said it'll be a possible upgrade for the 5920G!
So im waiting for news on that before i destroy my current card..
Thx for the reply -
Undertaxxx, there is exactly one semi-confirmed upgraded 5920G with the Radeon HD 4650, but it's on a Turkish forum and nobody's posted on it in a few weeks.
One of our own members is pulling the upgrade themselves, of course. -
I probably wouldnt 85 is getting close to the danger point of gpus and overclocking will only maker it hotter.
