    Hi,
    I'm looking to upgrade an old Vaio sitting around.

    I bought 2 x 1GB PC3200 RAM from eBay but after opening up this laptop, I noticed that my VAIO RAM is small (about half sized of regular stick RAM).

    Could anyone direct me to a URL page where I could buy this sized RAM? I'm looking for 2 x 1GB RAM, preferably Samsung, but I guess brand name doesn't matter at this point since it's hard to find this sized RAM.

    One more question though - isn't my Vaio PC-3200, not 5300?

    Or is PC5300 SODIMM compatible with this laptop??

    Yes, you need SODIMM type modules, not DIMM's. The latter are meant for desktops and are about twice the size in length to SODIMM's intended for laptops.

    Read up on laptop memory module types.

    In as far as buying I looked up your laptop and it seems to be using a Pentium M chip and DDR memory. Given this you need to go and buy a 200pin PC2700 or PC3200 SODIMM module. The maximum it supports (at least officially) is 1GB so you should go and install two identical 200pin 512MB PC2700 or PC3200 SODIMM modules.

    You can choose where to buy them. Just try and make sure both modules are the same brand and model. It's rare to get incomparability issues but if you have the choice go with likewise SODIMM's.

    P.S. I've tried to find what chipset your laptop model uses. I can't seem to locate it. It's either going to be a 855 or 945. In such case it will support at least 2GB (2x 1GB) despite what Sony officially states. I recommend you check what chipset your laptop uses via downloading an running CPU-Z and then looking up how much RAM your chipset supports.
