[Stress test] i5-520m & GT335M

I just stressed my notebook with FurMark and EVEREST Stress test.

Temperature would go up like this -
Is it normal? Should be worrried? I've got this laptop since 2010 October.

Wow that's pretty toasty. What notebook do you have? Have you tried a laptop cooler?

I also notices a drop in Windows 7 rating for video by 0.1 point .... :?

Would reinstalling help in anyway? because i havent really reinstalled laptop since then, except for dualboot ubuntu few times.
I opened up my notebook ( not entirely ) and cleaned it with compressed aid and vacuum cleaner, even tho I did not see any dust clumps or what so ever ( haven't checked cooler/vent, I assume the only way to access it is to dismantle entire bottom of the notebook )

P.S.

In the first picture - 1st test = CPU + GPU stress ( Maximum that was achieved in the tests, shown in 2nd picture, about ~91C CPU, ~70C ish GPU ), 2nd test = CPU test alone ( ~75C, with short spikes to 79C )

 

Yes it is hot but does it ever shutdown on you? Arrandale processors can get quite toasty.

Also very few times will your machine in realistic scenarios will actually hit those temperatures unless you are rendering.

 

1. Nope it did not shutdown for me, altho when I was dualboxing EVE Online with 2 fullscreens in windowed mode ( high settings ), it turned off/glitched Windows Aero a little ( it switched to Basic then back to Aero ) ... and when you tab out for longer and tab back to the game, it's all lagging for a while ( noticably lower FPS, like loading something, dunno )

2. Well I know it is quite a lot to put on A NOTEBOOK , but It seemed to better before ... maybe it just an illusion .. should have tested it when I got it

3. Would fresh install of drivers and OS help in any way ?

P.S. cleaned it again with compressed air, we'll see ...

 

Doing a fresh OS install won't help, though lot of ASUS laptops do come with a fair amount of bloatware.

If this was my notebook, I would look into repasting it. Has it ever gotten this hot before? Try monitoring your temperatures just doing normal tasks and see your max temperatures.

 

Well I did a fresh intall right after I got it ... meh ... well at normals it varies from 43-47 ( CPU Cores ) and ~45-50C ( CPU itself ) ... I'd say GPU approx the same.

I tried to open it up but it, I was unable to get out one screw ( really tight and did not want to mess it up, even tho I did mess it up a bit ). I haven't really any experience cleaning laptops. I used to clean really older Acer laptop( was pretty straight-forward bottom opening), but this one's has got a lot harder access point to CPU (?) Should I take it guarantee repair ( if applies ? ). Or some IT Shop to get it cleaned ?

 

Get it to a service shop or centre and have them reapply the paste on your CPU and GPU. You should have warranty still. it certainly needs treatement and best thing to do is let them do it since you'll void your warranty if you break something in the process of doing so or break the seals on your CPU.
