    Hi,

I've been experiencing packet loss with this card and wanted to do an upgrade. I've ordered a 4965 ABG/N with 3 antenna cables. I know this card will fit, but will my notebook recognise it?
Will the card show up in my devices list? Do i just plug it in and install the drivers? or what?

    Need help fast :p

    Grtz,

    Tax.

Acer's don't have lock on what cards you can use. Hopefully, you didn't buy a card designated for an HP/Lenovo, those cards won't work. Not sure if you will have 3 antenna already in there but it will run ok with 2 as well.

My 5920G (dead now) had the intel 4965 and it worked fine. You shouldn't have any problems. BTW, even though the card has ports for 3 antennas, my laptop was using only two. Just plugged it in and windows will install the drivers automatically or you can download the drivers from Acer website

    I don't have a router that supports 'n' anyway so, 2 antenna's is fine, for now :p

    Thanks guys.

What made you go with a 4965 instead of a 5300?

Well the 5300 is the top of the line card and is the same price as its predecessor, the card you bought.

Well, actually, if you were looking to buy a 5300 now's the time to hit up eBay--I see a card 10 hours away from ending that is auctioned for just ~$4 free shipping..if I hadn't bought a CPU yet I'd bid away here..(got a 5100 though so not much of an upgrade there)

Well, when I was upgrading from 3945ABG to higher class Wi-Fi card, I'd searched quite a lot. Many people having both cards (4965 and 5300) claimed that 4965 is far better. I'd ended up with 4965AGN and it's two galaxies better than my 3945. I don't have 5300 to compare it, but I don't care, because 4965 works flawlessly :D

Yeah I was reading the same thing from some threads couple months back. Like you though don't really care to compare as the 4965 is so much better than the previous 3945 piece of junk.

I have a problem with upgrading 3945ABG to 4965AGN on my Asus F3Sr.
The card is recognized OK, drivers are present in Windows 7, but I can't switch radion on, because Asus Wireless console can't(?) work with this module. Is it possible to make it work? Maybe I need another BIOS version or another Wireless console version, or something else?
    Thanks!

Maybe delete the "Asus Wireless console" and use either Windows' or Intel's connection software.

I've tried. It seems, that Wireless console is controlling the wireless ON/OFF button. Without it bluetooth and wifi are inactive :(

In the bios you might be able to disable the wireless switch so that the wireless card will be constantly on. That is the case in at least a few laptops I've seen.

That would be great. But there is no such option in BIOS on my laptop.

Problem solved. I've updated ATK100, ATK Hotkey, ATK Generic Service to the versions compatible with Windows 7.(At first, Win7 picked them from original vista installation and there were no updated versions for my laptop, so I've used versions for X50n). Then I've installed latest Intel wireless driver and ProSet. Now everything is OK and working as intended to.
