[Upgrade] Socket S1G2
i know there is:
Turion X2 Ultra (S1G2)
Turion 2 Ultra (S1G3)
one is K8 and other one is K10.5
i am wondering if anyone tried to install the K10.5 Version onto S1G2?
does the S1 has backward compatible like AM3 Cpu works on AM2+, b/c AM3 has DDR2 contoller build in?
-
Without BIOS support, I doubt it would work. AM2+ desktop boards from many vendors had frequent BIOS updates to support the range of AM3 cpus, not so much platform interchangeability on the notebook side of things.
-
lets just ignore bios support, as i can do micro-code injection, i am just want to know if they are backward or forward compatible
aka, S1G3 cpu on S1G2 socket, since S1G3 cpu is base of phenom 2, which has dual memory controller (DDR2+DDR3) -

I think S1G2 is K8 only. An S1G3 could take either a K8 or K10. BTW, are you sure the Turion II Ultra is a K10.5 part? I thought K10.5 was the higher end 45nm desktop parts and mobile Phenom, and that's what Bulldozer will be pulling from... Also the Turion II Ultra is an S1G3 not S1G4 so I still think it's just K10.

Will it fit, yes. It is still 638-pin and both S1G2 and S1G3 cpus have DDR2 memory controllers (while S1G4 cpus have DDR3 controllers and won't work).
If you can add micro-code updates, why not just try it? -
Did you actually try this out? Did it work?
-
on ebay those phenom base or star base CPU are still too expensive

I want to upgrade my HP TX 2500 tablet. It came with a S1G2 socket, originally with a ZM-82 CPU and currently on a ZM-87 CPU. I upgraded the CPU so many times, I could probably open and close the whole tablet case blindfolded now
I don't know anything about microcode updates though. But, I really want to try one of those compatible DDR2 S1G3 CPU's on this.
Anybody who can teach me about microcode updates?
