Guys,
Im wondering, how much difference of battery life IF the display using LED backlight and without backlight ??

That depends on the notebook, the display size and the proportion of the power used by the the other hardware. For example, if you have a notebook where the battery drain is 10W, then if the LED backlight saves 1W, you would get a 10% increase in the battery run time. However, if the notebook's power drain on battery is 20W then a 1W reduction would only be 5%. Without having specific results for two otherwise similar displays, I would guess that this 5% to 10% range is a fair indication.
LED backlighting offers two other advantages: The displays can be thinner; and the backlighting should be more reliable since the is no inverter needed.

I am asking this because the price between sony sz premium carbon casing and magnesium casing is quite different in my local store. i assume that the carbon casing will used LED back lighting tecnology.
I wonder whether the difference about the battery life would be noticeable or not between those 2 models ?
thanks -
if battery life is your main concern then getting extended battery is the better option. LED wont give you significant increase in battery life or brightness. the main advantage is it's slim form and light weight. you won't be disappointed going with SZ premium as their LED screens are very thin.
-
if so, then i should go to sony sz non carbon casing model, shouldnt I ?
because the price is quite different between those 2 models and my budget is limited.
is it true that the difference is not quite significant ??? -
if you don't care about the overall weight and form factor and are working with limited budget, then yes you should go with the non-carbon casing model and extended battery (if it even exist for SZ models). i'm just giving you heads up because the thickness between the two screens are quite noticeable

There could be a significant difference in the battery time for the SZ. The headline description for a SZ with LED backlight says "Work for longer cable-free with extended battery life of up to 5½ hours in Stamina Mode" while the corresponding text for the non-LED backlit version says "Work for longer cable-free with extended battery life of up to 4½ hours in Stamina Mode". However, the times in the detailed specs further down the page are the same.
I have seen reports of some SZs running for over 5 hours on battery but I can't find the relevant thread. It's somewhere in the Sony forum.

i guess the SZ may be different. i was basing my generalization off my XPS M1330 w/ LED screen.

Some very good points. Thanks guys for educating me.
Since you're on a limited budget and assuming that you're ok to carry slightly thicker lappy, i'd say go for the non-carbon one. The reason being most batteries (if not all) starts to depreciate faster after round 1 yr. So even if you buy extended battery, the marginal benefit will last only for around 1 yr.
But, if you want a carbon one then go ahead, but without he extended battery- unless you REALLY need it.
Perhaps some users with those two models can share their experience here.
Do let us know how
PS: i MAY BE WRONG ABOUT THIS- some viaos don't come with OS/Recovery and Driver ROMs. Did I hear correctly? -
If you can wait, I would advice you to do so. You'll be able to get the new Sony SR with LED screen and the newest generation Intel CPU for about $1300. Check the Sony forums for more details.

@ all
thank for your quick response. i really much appreciate it.
until now, i still haven't find yet the exact information both this sony sz model. esp related to led-consuming-battery thing
it is true that led backlight will give longer battery life, but the difference is still questionable for me.
I'm still waiting a good news from you.
thanks -
Maybe 10 minutes on 3:30 hours. Nothing to get too excited about. The LED screen is brighter and is better visible outside, even in sunlight.
But really why would you buy a model that's going to be replaced by a new platform in a couple of weeks. The newer platform will have better battery life. -
Here's a picture of the SZ woth LED screen next to ccfl.

well, actually if the new platform were launched in my country, the old model price will drop quiet high. my local store will do the clearance sale to empty the old stock.
I'm not that envy too much about the new model or platform or any advancement in technology, since in every seconds new technology will replace the old.
btw, thanks for any input.
