Ok these might be really stupid questions.. but I am pretty computer illiterate so please be patient with me. I have a DVD-RW drive. I am trying to burn an audio CD.
1) Can I use a CD-R disc? I tried using a CD-R disc but my stereo system couldn't play it.
2) What kinda of disc do I need to copy data or videos?
Thanks so much! (I have a Dell Inspiron 1520)

1) Yes.
2) If you want to store a video on a disk, you'd probably be best off using a DVD. -
1) What program did you use when you burned music to the disc.
2) It depends on how big the file you need to copy onto it. -
1.) Yes, a CD-R is the proper thing to burn music to. What kind of CD did you make? You will probably have to make an audio CD, especially if your stereo is older. Also, make sure to "finalize" the CD before attempting to play it; older stereos are quirky in this regard sometimes.
2.) You can use either to store data ... if you want to burn video and play it in most DVD players you should use a DVD and the appropriate software. If you're just backing up documents, pictures and other records, a CD-R will probably work well. The advantage of a DVD is its ability to store MUCH, MUCH more data. If you are in the habit of backing up larger files regularly, you may want to consider a rewritable disc or an external hard disk. -
I used Roxio Media Creator 9. When I put the disc into my stereo system..it spun a few times and then it said "No Disc".

I just checked again.. apparently I have a TSSTcorp DVD+/- RW TS-L632H. It has no problem reading an original CD or DVD. But it would not play an audio CD I created. Does anyone know how to solve my problem?

I would try a different brand of media. Also, I edited your post this time, but consider this a warning. We don't talk about illegal stuff here; next time points will be docked. See the forum rules and PM a moderator if you have questions.

My guess is your not burning it correct. Try using windows media player.

I updated the drivers today. I don't think the DVD+/-RW drive is entirely defective. It can read original CD and DVD. It can kind of burn CD too. When I put the burned CD into my stereo.. it would take about 10 seconds for the stereo to go from one track to the next. But occasionally it would not recognize the CD.
When I put the burned CD into the drive in my laptop.. songs become choppy. It would play for one second then stop for a few seconds before it played another second.
Does my problem sound familiar to you guys? Any solutions? Thank you. -

Sounds like when you are burning you are getting errors.
Burn in very slow speed, do error correction, finalize the disk, and use the best media you can (IMO nothing is better than Black Memorex CDs for Audio, in my experience they usually [almost always] play on player that normally refuses to play CDRs).
Otherwise your burner may be reaching end of life or the laser is slightly off.
(possibly) really dumb DVD burner questions
