What is the difference? I want to get a 1GB for a Lenovo Thinkpad and I can get either option. Which one allows me to add a card in the future (and does it limit which one I can add?)

Ordering the 1 DIMM configuration gives you an empty slot to upgrade but not worth much more than $20 as you can buy 2X1GB for $40.

1Gb 1 dimm means...1 single stick of 1GB ram, meaning it leaves the 2nd slot for you to upgrade at a later date
2 dimm means 2x512mb sticks...taking up both slots but its usually cheaper.

There are only two memory slots. If you get 2 DIMMs you'll have to throw out at least half your existing memory to upgrade.
If you get 1 DIMM and you plan to upgrade to 3GB, you can just buy a 2GB stick and pop it in.
If you plan to upgrade to 4GB (if you have an operating system that supports that much), it doesn't matter whether your 1GB is 1 or 2 sticks, you'll have to replace both.
1 DIMM or 2 DIMM? The Difference?
