Hello everyone, I recently returned my dv6000t and have been wondering if there would be a huge difference between 1 and 2 gigs of ram.
I have a Core 2 Duo 2.0 GHZ notebook with a Geforce 7400 (dedicated) 256 graphics card. It came with 1 gig of ram but I had to return it to get a brighter screen.
I am going to be upgrading it to Windows Vista when it comes out, I do audio/video editing sometimes and use Photoshop on occasion. I also play HL2 and F.E.A.R. do you think that there would be a noticable difference between the 1 and 2 gigs, would it be worth it?
I'd like my notebook to run fast for the next 4-5 years or so with Vista, however I must choose between 2 gigs of ram or 1 gig of ram and a docking station, any thoughts/comments will be appreciated, thanks.

1 gig of ram is the standard recomended amount now. For gameing at high resolutions with AA, ect 2 gigs will come in handy. Vista Will probubly run smoother with the extra gig. It will only cost you about 100$ if you buy the ram from a place like newegg. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16820227110

Well if I end up going with 1 gig then if I ever need to upgrade to (2) gigs I would need to buy 2- 1 gig sticks, as the 1 gig is 2x512
I mean in terms of encoding and decoding audio would the extra gig make any difference? Would my system be bottle-necked by only having 1 gig on the C2D? -
It would still save you money probubly. Hp charges like what 270$ for 2 gigs.
You could allways go with 1.5 gigs -
$200 for 2 Gigs if I get them with the laptop and not after.

Its up to you, 1.5gigs would be 100$ and 2gigs is 200. You can allways upgrade later. You are not saveing any money geting the ram from hp.

I think buy more RAM from laptops' manufacturer directly is quite costly. Buy more RAM at retail shops.

i got my 2 gig RAM free as an upgrade from 1 gig from dell...was worth 300$, and i got it as a free upgrade

I'm going to see how my 1gig does right now...and if need be, will get another 1gb stick.

Until you play games or run memory intensive apps such as Photoshop you won't see a difference by upgrading to 2 GB. My recommendation is that you save your money and wait for 2 GB sticks to come out and put those in when you upgrade to Vista.
