I pretty much just ordered a new laptop, and I wanted to know if 1 1GB stick of ram would affect performance alot compared to going with the 2x512?

    Thanks

The best thing about getting 1 stick of 1gb ram is that it is very easy to upgrade to 2gb in the future by just buying another 1gb stick and putting it in the open slot. If you have 2x512, you will have to replace both with 1gb sticks to make 2gb.

As far as performance goes, I'm pretty sure that there is little difference, if any, between running with 2 and 1 sticks.

the difference is neglible. I doubt you can tell the difference between driving 60mph vs. 61 mph.

Good Question. I found a site, AnandTech that reviewed a 1705. They seem to suggest that while the Intel 945 supports dual channel, or two same memory chips, there are not any performance benefits from it…other than what is gained from more memory.

I’m still digging on this but it’s starting to look like Intel marketing strikes again?

    Anyone?
