Considering there's no real 1TB options at the moment, this is a good thing. Some people actually want a storage drive for, well, storage. I'll take a 550MB/sec TLC drive over a 1200MB/sec PCIe when it's half the cost and for all intents and purposes won't make a lick of difference for uses I (and many others) would have for it.

Well whichever 1 tb ssd I buy I'm likely to end up getting 3 of them so I think oh have to wait for reviews. Maybe even a comparison

Ssd life says my Samsung 850 is going to live 8 years. Its not that mlc is not worth more to me it is. But not a lot more. 8 years from now a 1tb ssd is going to be like a vhs tape. There will be 100 tb ssds in 8 years

No, there won't. Just like there are no 2TB+ HDD's today.

Will the storage be 100TB or so? Yeah, that I could see in a post 2025 world. But it won't be SSD's that will be delivering it. ;)

Absolutely the silicon concept could be worthless.

Well Samsung has an 8 tb drive on the plate for 2016.

If they only double every 2 years ssd will be in the 64 tb in 8 years.

And that's with just the existing ssd tech.

But whatever it is my data does not have to live past 8 years and if it does I doubt a 1 tb stuck is going to matter.

The main point is all ssds are pretty good. All of them.

Even the worst ones are pretty good.

And they're not so expensive that you need to be super attached or brand loyal.

Like investing 800 dollars well sure you want the Mercedes.

    Unless the M.2 SSD or the manufacturer of the notebook incorporates something like this;

    See:
    http://water.usgs.gov/edu/gallery/watercyclekids/evaporation.html

I'm not holding my breath for an M.2 drive worth buying (from anyone). Especially if I want higher than SATA3 sustained, performance over time.

    :D :D :D

Huh, wonder how long it will take to get a fast, 1TB M.2 at 42mm.

Great! Hope those make their way to US soon. I actually have a couple Transcend M.2 SSD's 256GB and 512GB and they work great. No they're not the fastest, but they actually run reasonably cool and are very affordable. Great option for slim notebooks that lack a 2.5" drive bay.

I was going to tell you the size and number of the nand squares

So you can see the transcend controller and then you see only 2 nand for 1 tb.

But ivtake it back it's just not a 1 tb ssd in the picture at all its the 256gb version

Just to add onto what OsCeZrCd said, here's the link. The seller has 8 available.
It's tempting to buy it, especially to replace smaller M.2 SSDs.

That seller is solid and ships fast I got my X400 1TB m.2 yesterday from them.

I ordered last Thursday and received it yesterday

A plus is their prices aren't as steep as other vendors and they have them in stock.

    I'm liking it so far

This SSD isn't as fast as Samsung 950 Pro though since it's SATA signal only. :(
But, would love to see 1TB version of 950 Pro.

Not hugely different but it's not up to Samsung 850 speed .

Does anyone know if there is a method of ghosting a M.2 drive with another M.2? I just ordered a 1Tb M.2 SSD. Thanks in advance.

Use Reflect Free to create an image to an external hard drive, install new M.2 and then have that image installed on the new M.2.

It will be an exact image of your system so everything is maintained.

There will not be a 1tb m2 2280 Sata ssd that is not 3d tlc for sale ever.

The obsolete technology called planar mlc will not fit 1 tb on this size board.....
And they are not working on shrinking it. Its done.

Ever. That is why they stopped making it.
The good news is these new 3d tlc drives have normally a much longer lifespan.

    So scratch what?

    who knows what that is.

gloway is not a ssd manufacturer. If there was a 1 tb planar mlc m2 drive made....the manufacturer chose not to sell it . whether it was micron or sandisk.
it was likely one of those 2 though. i have the micron 500 gb m2 drive, and i had the samsun 850 same size. theres no more room on the board for 1 tb in chips.

they definitely made 1 tb they were110 mm

so maybe some exist in china maybe not. buy one and tell us what it is.

but its something the manufacturers stopped making. they are dumping those chips to resellers. like this gloway. mushkin. there may be some last off market mlc ssds for cheap

I have one actually it uses micron mlc nand. micron wont be making any more of these but they may still have some to sell to remanufacturers.

I wouldnt wait for it though. I mean I got this for dirt cheap to me like 175 out the door.

Why can't they give me a 2 TB m.2 SSD (non NVME)? I mean they are already manufacturing 2 TB mSATA drives (without directly selling them), why is there no m.2 variant?

*edit: Sorry for the thread-resurrection. Didn't watch out for the date...

Yes, but i don't want to pay that much for that unnecessary sequential speeds and the nvme hassle. Give me a m.2 850 Evo 2 TB and I'm fine.
