Hey guys, My BenQ S41-447 just come an hour ago, since the ram equipped from factory only 512 mb DDR2, I'm thinking to upgrade soon. Unfortunately, the shop nearby only sells 1 gb DDR2. So I'm wondering, is 1,5 gb Ram is considered good enough? Is it ok to use ram from two different producers?

1.5 Gb RAM is enogh to handle Vista but If you have extra money I really suggest you buy 2 Stick of 1gb RAM.

I find it wierd that your laptop has such a nice GPU but with only a 512 amount of RAM.

Yes it is fine to buy from different producers but be sure to buy the same frequency

Frequency? you mean the 667mhz right? I will keep in mind when purchasing it then.

and Johnny, I will use dual partition of XP home edition and Ubuntu. I wont' use vista for sure.

honestly I'm pretty noob when it comes to ram-related stuff. What else should I consider before/after I buy the ram?

1.5GB is plenty for XP :) Well I am using 2 GB with XP...LOL :p

And yeah you will need to look for 200pin (notebook ram), PC5300/5400 (same thing) which means 667mhz. Dont get 800mhz(PC6400) people might tell you its faster but it actually downclocks to 667mhz since the notebook chipset isnt compatible with 800mhz ram.

Thanks for the explanation Johnny, the ram I'm gonna buy is 5300 so I guess they are same frequency. Gonna buy it tomorrow since the shop closed already... :)

and Shadowfate, I only want to play Heroes of Might and Magic V, seriously, this is the sole reason I've been wanting a new laptop :D

thanks for the replies guys, I guess it's pretty much answered everything.
