I have another problem with my laptop.
I tried running age of empires 3, only to be met with a message that my processor is only running at 800mhz so could not run the game.
So I quickly downloaded a CPU utility and lo and behold, my 1600Mhz Pentium M 725 is running at 600mhz!
I have posted a screenshot here of the utility.
Surely I dont have to mess with multiplier settings etc to make it run at its real speed?
Does anyone know why it is only running at half speed?
Why would it be restricted like this straight out of the factory?
Any help appreciated!![]()

Its probably doing so to save on battery life etc. though usually when the power is needed it will step up and deliver. try using speedswitch to get it to run at its maximum speed and make sure the system's fans are adjusted (or automatically) handle the heat.
Mine used to run at 1.2ghz instead of 1.6 until I used speedswitch.
best of luck! -
I'm using the power cable though, it's not running on batteries right now.

Try changing the power scheme to "Always On". That should make the processor run at full speed 24/7. The 600MHz might be due to the Speedstep. Have you checked to see if the speed increases when you do anything processor intensive? This should make the processor go upto full speed.

I guess I wont run it on that power scheme unless I'm playing games.
Thanks again -
I'd suggest getting Notebook Hardware Control so that you can easily change these kinds of settings on the fly.

Thanks -
I suggest leaving it on "Portable/Laptop" all the time, unless there really is such a dumb game that fails to detect the CPU properly and not only throws a warning, but prevents you from run it altogether.

Download NHC like dagamer said. You can set it to max performance which should be a fix to your problem.
-
You shouldn't worry as it is Intel Speed Step Tech works normally.

I downloaded NHC and it's great, I like the battery notification too.
Im leaving it on portable profile, AOE worked so it must have upped the CPU speed on its own.
thanks everyone.
