I'm interested in the T400s but it has a 1.8" HDD and have found that the traditional height is 5mm. Can anyone confirm this height and if any notebooks with 1.8" HDDs can hold thicker drives?

Why does this matter? Well I was curious as to how Intel coded their product names, specifically their SSDs since there are actually many different varieties and codes, and ran across a few issues.

    1. X18-M 160GB is only 8mm thickness
    2. X18-M 80GB is only 5mm thickness
    3. Multiple codes for same product and all 2.5" models have multiple thicknesses

For example, a search through Google reveals these 1.8" models and next to them what I have deciphered:

    SSDSA1MH080G1 - 5mm (std) thickness
    SSDSA1MH080G101 - 5mm (std) thickness, nothing from Intel.com
    SSDSA1MH080G105 - 5mm (std) thickness

For 2.5" models, there is even more variety!

    SSDSA2MH080G1 - 7mm thickness
    SSDSA2MH080G101 - 7mm thickness, nothing from Intel.com
    SSDSA2MH080G105 - 7mm thickness, nothing from Intel.com
    SSDSA2MH080G1C1 - 9.5mm (std) thickness
    SSDSA2MH080G1C5 - 9.5mm (std) thickness
    SSDSA2MH080G2 - 2nd generation, coming soon

What's the difference between G1, G101, and G105 - is one better/newer than the other? Same with G1C1 vs. G1C5 for the 2.5"?

If anyone who owns an Intel can pop the hood and let me know if there is a model written on your SSD, the date on it and the height, I'd appreciate it!

but i can't take it out again without potentially damaging my notebook, so i can't really help. but it was quite thick (but fit perfectly..). but i have a different notebook.

    12.1" HP 2510P ultraportable = 1.8" 80GB Toshiba MK8009GAH = 8mm tall
    12.1" HP 2530P ultraportable = 1.8" 120GB Samsung HS122JC = 8mm tall

All the ultraportables, including HP Mini 1001 and Dell Mini 12 use 8mm tall 1.8" HDDs. Some *very thin* Macbook Air and Sony Vaio P's use 5mm drives.

    I would say your T400s uses a 8mm tall 1.8" drive.

Good to know! I'm still curious about the product name though, davepermen, does it tell you what model you have in any disk benching software?

I'll check this weekend. I've made pics, maybe one can read/measure stuff based on those photos. I'll host them on the weekend, too :)
