I just picked up a new 2710p tablet for $550 and I'd like to maximize the battery life out of it. I've also gotten an ultraslim battery slice for it, but i want to see what else I can get out of it. The first thing that came to mind was an SSD.

However, I was thinking that a 1.8" HDD probably doesn't consume much power anyway and that moving to a SSD would have minimal effect. Can anyone verify/disprove my theory?

The SSD i was looking into was the following:

    32GB for $105 shipped

    Thanks :)

Not going to work. Your 2710P has a ZIF PATA 1.8" drive interface. Consider the 1.8" ZIF SSDs instead. The just released Runcore ProIV being the best bang-per-buck solution. US$140 for 32GB or US$229 for 64GB, very good performance too. If you do get the Runcore ProIV please post your crystaldiskmark results.

Ohhh, didn't realize it was PATA heh. Any idea if the battery savings are worth it?

it's difficult to say. so far, no-one got one yet. in theory, it could save much power. but if it really does, that's another question.

and yes, the hdd you have in yet is allready quite powersaving. at least, it runs (in my case) on an individual usb plug :)

The 1.8" Runcore ProIV_ZIF_SSD has 0.45/0.85W sleep/active power consumption. A 1.8" Toshiba_80GB_MK8009GAH has 0.4/1W sleep/active. You will get some power consumption benefits from the SSD since it's speed means it will spend more time in sleep but it will not be a major difference. The big difference will be performance.
