Sorry if this is a really bad question but I'm new to computers. What exactly does 1.83 Ghz mean? Also, if I were ordering a notebook that I wanted to last for a long time (at least 4 years), would it be beneficial to get the best processor available (Since processors can't be upgraded correct?)? I'm debating whether or not getting the 2.13 Ghz Core Duo is worth the extra $300 it'll take to get it. I'll be using my notebook for surfing the internet, mild gameplay (nothing new like FEAR but maybe wc3 ft), watching movies, and word processing. Any advise would be greatly apperciated.

No for your use you won't need the 2.13GHz core duo.
The new intel processors (Core 2 Duo) will be releasing very soon. Sometime in the next 3-7 weeks i imagine. These will replace the current core duo's overtime. You may want to wait for these to be placed into notebooks. Just something to consider. -
well.. 1.83ghz means that the process or runs at 1600mhz... 1000mhz is 1ghz.. so basically simply put its around 2-3 pent 3 processors (speed wise)(just a simple comparison dont take it literly)
like "i need money said" if your going to play wc3 u dont need 2.13ghz.. forgodsakes i play wc3 on my pc (see signature for specs)..and i get about 1-2sec delay cause my graphics card is well really outdated.
you can replace a processor sometimes depends on the processor and the computer that its put into... i know for a fact that i "can" take this processor out of this computer its just very tough lol.. However my graphics card is soldered onto my motherboard... -
Also, just a word of caution - only compare speed ratings with the same processor. A Turion X-2 is clocked slower than a Turion, but I am pretty sure it runs faster.

1.83GHz is the operating frequency of the processor. Any of the Core Duos will be very fast, so you shouldn't worry about clock speed.
It might be worth it to wait for the Core 2 Duo as posted - they are going to be officially released on July 27th, and should be in notebooks at the end of August. -
Great, thanks for all the advice and explanations. I think I actaully am going to wait for the Core 2 Duo.

it basically means the cpu pulses 1.83 billion times a second (1.83ghz...you get the point). To be technical and all. The 2.16 is 15.27% faster then the 1.83. Not too much unless your a hair splitter and /or require every bit of cpu power you can get. But in that case youll fork up the extra $200+ to get the t2700 @2.33ghz. But thats a huge price premium...50% price increase for a marginal increase...if that.
1.83 vs 2.16 Ghz
