    I am close to purchasing an e1505 laptop and I am really hesitating between the following two options for customization:

    Intel® Core™ Duo processor T2300E (2MB Cache/1.66GHz/667MH) or Intel® Core™ Duo processor T2400 (2MB Cache/1.83GHz/667MHz FSB)

    $53 difference.

    Also,
    15.4 inch Wide Screen XGA Display and
    15.4 inch UltraSharp™ Wide Screen SXGA+ Display with TrueLife

    $70 difference

    What should I do? Does the cost overweigh the benefits or vice versa?

    the difference between the processors is negligable. however, glossy vs. matte screen is a very personal decision. i am a huge fan of matte, but many people prefer glossy.

    Between the processors, there isnt much difference. I would say get the upgrade if you have choosen all the other options feel like spending the $50 more.

    Regarding the screen, I would have to agree with dragon. I would add that the Ultrasharp screen is WSXGA+(1680X1050), so has a higher resolution(smaller text but larger viewing area) than the WXGA(1280X800) in the matte screen

    Like they have said, the difference between the two CPUs will not be noticed. But for 50 bucks, I'd probably do it.

    I agree about the screen.

    does the E on the end of the T2300E indicate a low-voltage part? if so, that will be useful for battery life.

    I'm not a fan of the glossy screens, but I would def. want the higher resolution. So a tough choice there.

    The "E" means "without virtualization," a technology that makes emulation (such as Rosetta on the Mac or VMWare on Linux) run a lot faster. I'd say gaining that is worth $50 to me almost (although I use Linux), and the speed bump is just icing.

    As for the screen, the added real estate and color depth is also well worth the minimal price tag, IMO - but I happen to like glossy. Try looking at some in a store before buying.

    I would go for the T2400, just to get a little bit extra power.

    The screen is up to you. Some like the glossy, some don't. If you'll be using this outdoors, you probably want matte. If you'll be using it under flourescent lights, you might want matte. The glossy screen does usually create a "deeper" looking picture, but the screen is more susceptible to glare.

    The resolutions differences are preference too. For some, the WSXGA+ resolution on the glossy would create text that's far too small on a 15.4". It can be difficult to read for some. Of course, that higher resolution gives you more room to display data on the screen. The WXGA resolution might be too limited in real estate for some though.

    No one can tell you what you'll want. You need to go look at some laptops with similar configurations and determine what you'd prefer.

    I would add the extra power for only $50. The price seems worth it. And I love my glossy screen, but I would recommend you go to a Best Buy and check a lappy with a glossy screen to make sure you like it, because with some people the glare is annoying.

    Many people say that you wont be able to see the difference. Is this true? Btw, I dont use virtual pc or whatever so thats not a big deal for me, its just the extra speed.

    1.66 -> 1.83 is .17 difference.
    .17 = 50 bux?
