just checking a few places that offer the two differences...

is there truley a difference that i would notice?
are these just for serious gamers who want a few extra fps?
i game, but i have been told that the difference between the FSB and RAM as noted in title would be negligable at best....

    true or no?

Montevina is new, try it out. There is a performance difference, but I don't know how much. Buying DDR3 at this point of time (low frequency models), doesn't make sense. Stick to DDR2-800.

you mean DDR2 800 if you use the new montevina right?
cause the older one i think maxes at 667 no?

You can use DDR2-800 RAM in both Santa Rosa and Montevina platform laptops.

Santa Rosa will accept DDR2-800 but downclock it to 667MHz. Depending on the RAM, it might run at CL=4 latency instead of the normal CL=5.

If it is DDR2-800 CL=6, then it will downclock to DDR2-667 CL=5 (in santa rosa notebooks)

Yeah, DDR2-800 for montevina. (and DDR3-1066 max)

does it take any xtra from the system to downclock?
so i guess it may be better to keep to the 667.
and i guess there is no noticable difference i will see from the 1033 vs 800 either?

    thx all

I am confused? Here is a link that will show a little. Yes they are desktops but FSB is 1066 and does run the RAM speeds discussed so should at least indicate.

Edit: Santa Rosa PC5300 is about 4333MB/s (John Ratsey)

great info, but i am wondering if desktops are really different in this realm then.
seems most agree that the 800 would downclock to 667 as compared to the desktop review i read that you posted the link to

I thought the desktop would be good for a relative comparison. I also at the bottom gave a Santa Rosa 667Mhz number I would not compare that to the others too much.

What is the question you have? What platform are we talking about? When you start talking about 667Mhz I get confused as mostly Santa Rosa unless for example a thinkpad Montevina maybe? And the ThinkPad won't downclock so I guess you are not talking about that.

Please re ask your question again.

For what it is worth Sager memory bandwidth will be higher. Does it matter? The Sager will have a better card? Will the Sager cost less?

In overall performance the Montevina may not be a leap above Santa Rosa but overall it will be better.

    I would go Sager myself.
