I bought a sony vaio 15.5 laptop that has 1080p. Bought it for online poker and playing many tables and also browsing with internet. However, the letters are REALLY TINY when using firefox.. I know i can change the resolution but after i change the resolution to a much lower one, is there a reason why my screen is stretched inside? Also, i seem to lose about 2-3 inches from each side and its black. Is there a way to fix it?

Also, is there a way to make the letters bigger? I have an old dell inspiron 6000 laptop with 1280x800 resolution and when i have firefox browser opened, letters are very good and clear because they are big. I heard you have to change the font size? I did this but is there a reason why when i use google to search things, those letters are still so small? I'm talking about the search results.

Also, can someone tell me if its possible to see my screen as 1368x766 resolution with my 1080p laptop just as if i had bought this laptop with 1368x766resolution as oppose to 1080p? Can someone tell me how to do this step by step?

    Thank you!

what resolutions does your PC allow you to set it to?

Resolutions that are 16:9 like 1280x720, 1680x945 should not have black bars on the side of the screen. 1366x768 is pretty close as well.

Dont lower the resolution, just change the DPI values. Also browsers like firefox have zoom functions.

If you insist on a resolution change the reason the black bars are there is because you have apsect scaling turned on so its not stretching the image across the screen because it would distort the image.

There are two ways to do this:

    1) Since this is a new laptop, I assume it is running Windows 7. Right-click on your desktop, and go to Screen Resolution --> Make text and other items larger or smaller. Set that setting from the default (100%) to another setting (125% or 150%). This will adjust text and icon sizes for everything in Windows, if this is what you want.

    2) In Firefox specifically, you can go to View menu --> Zoom, and set the zoom level in the browser. This will make text larger / smaller in Firefox only, which may be what you want.

Increasing font size. Are you talking about increasing it from small 100 percent to medium 125 percent? Or are you talking about something else? I also noticed if i try to increase it to large 150 percent... then its too big because my pokerstars table would look way too big. I did it but is there anything else i can do?

Also, i tried to solve my problem of text too small in firefox by clicking ctrl and + to zoom it. It is good but do i need to do this every single time on a webpage? I mean if i go to yahoo and then zoom it, it looks great. But once i type something in and go to another site to read something, text is back to small like it was originally.

Also, would you guys say having 1080P on a 15 inch laptop is a pretty bad idea? Someone said its better to have it at native resolution which is 1366x768.

But can someone tell me what are the reasons people get 1080p as oppose to 720p with a 15' laptop? I did it mainly for poker but will be returning my sony vaio and don't know if i should get a 1080p laptop.

Also, how do you turn off aspect scaling then because of the black bars on the left and right side when i lower the resolution. DPI values are the 100 , 125 and 150 percent right?

i used firefox and scalling was horrendus.. IE9 and Chrome solve the scalling problem for me. I just set zoom to 120% in Chrome and text is clear and perfect.. same as my previous WXGA+ screen.. i suggest you get Chrome... its really worth it.. scalling wise , IE9 also doesn't come close although it is better than firefox.
