Since i'm always tinkering around with the hardware configurations of my notebooks, I've come across an interesting "problem" regarding playback of HD videos.
On my Asus Z84 in my sig I tried playing back an Imax film "blue planet" encoded in Blueray(VC.1) When I had the T2500 in this notebook playback was not possible, stuttering all the time. Threw in a T7200 and performance inproved but still stuttered to the point where the video is not watchable. (Cpu almost @ 100% all the time) GPU is Geforce 7700 go, i figured the small amount of vid acceleration from the 7700 would help, but it didn't.
Now, on to my W5Fm, threw the T7200 into that notebook, GMA950 graphics, try playing the video and bang, no dropped frames, it plays like a dream no dropped frames or anything, cpu % is around 60-70%.
I"m really struggling as to why the GMA 950 graphics are playing this video better than the 7700 go in my laptop. Anyone have any ideas?
PS the file in the above post was downloaded as a torrent.

I'm guessing there was something in the configuration of your other notebook that caused the slowdowns. Like a process running in the background, or some other software, or even crappy drivers. So my guess is that the second laptop is configured better, thus there is no wasted processing power and it can play the video just fine.

I guess i should mention, both systems were running Xp 32bit and using media player classic, i'm not sure about processes, I usually keep everything running in tip top shape, i'm gonna switch out cpu's and try again, i'll post results shortly.

try installing the coreavc codec pack.

if it still doesnt work with coreavc installed, i will lose faith in the hd gods. -

It has to be due to the codec being used. Different codecs use different amounts of cpu power. You can have the same media player installed on both machines but it has a different codec priority. I forget how to bring it up but there is a screen that shows all your codecs installed and list them in order of priority, you want to put the good ones at the top. I just install CCCP and have always been fine from there, I dont know for sure what codecs I actully use.
In adition you can always try other players too, VCL is a good one and comes with the CCCP, if MPC doesnt work for me 99.9% of the time VCL does. -
he totally meant to say vlc

Well i'm still at a loss as to why I can't play this video on my Z84,

Please be patient i'm new to the whole hd playback on pc's, can't imagine why I shoudln't be able to play most titles as I should have enough cpu power alone.
I guess i should also add that it doesn't seem to be using both cores on my cpu, which would seem to fix the problem i don't know i'm all out of ideas. I do have the K-Lite codec pack installed would that be causing an issue? -
Use Gspot to see if you have the correct codec installed:
