    Saw this page here:

Newegg.com - Computer Hardware, Hard Drives, Laptop Hard Drives, 10000 RPM

If you look deeper, you will see apparently there are also 15k laptop hard drives available.

I am not 100% sure if these are made for laptop usage, or just an error. I heard there are no 10,000rpm drives for laptops at other places but the category on Newegg clearly says "laptop."

    Thoughts?

No they're designed for servers, they won't work in laptops mainly for power and heat reasons. If you're after speed then SSD's are the way to go, they're much faster than 10k RPM drives anyway.

I think it would be fun to stick one of these in a laptop and watch it melt :D

WD's Raptor drives are 2.5" in a 3.5" heatsink. My friend modded one to fit inside his notebook, needless to say the drive failed in about 1 week.

Technically, WD Velociraptor's are 2.5" and are not the same drive as the original "Raptor" are 3.5" - since so many make that mistake, maybe they should have come up with another name for the 2.5".

Velociraptor's are also 15mm thick, vs. standard laptop of 9.5mm, and although their power requirements are less than a regular desktop drive and run cooler, they still have significant higher power requirements than a true laptop drive.

Newegg should really fix their site. I am not aware of any true laptop 2.5"x9.5mm drives that roatate faster than 7200rpm.

Those 10-15k hard drives aren't much cheaper than an SSD of a similar capacity, and the latter will be much faster, produce virtually no heat, absolutely no vibration, be immune to bumps/shock, and use way less power.

There's not much point to trying to upgrade an HDD for speed (upgrades for capacity make sense) when the slowest SSD is still going to be faster than the fastest HDD.
