120Hz 1440p G-Sync screen for Clevo 17.3" laptop: is this display good or crap?

I'm interested in buying a 17.3" Clevo P775TM laptop and would prefer to get it with a 1440p display.

I noticed most resellers only offer the 1080p and 4K options. But e.g. HIDevolution also has the 1440p version (unfortunately I'm in Europe and haven't found a reseller selling this model in Europe yet).

It even comes in two variants: the AUO B173QTN01.0 at $195 or the B173QTN01.4 at $295 (note only the last digit of the model number is different). If I'm not mistaken, both are 2560x1440 120Hz G-Sync displays. I can't find much about these screens but it appears the B173QTN01.4 one is better (which is also reflected by the price difference).

My question: does anyone have experience with this display? How good / bad / great is it?
Does anyone know the difference between these two? And I'm especially concerned if the B173QTN01.4 suffers from any sigifnicant backlight bleeding?

 

BLB shouldn’t be much of an issue as both are TN panels. The main issue is that neither are great panels, with high G2G response time, poor contrast ratio, and less than sRGB color space. The 01.0 revision also suffers from banding, which was fixed in the 01.4 revision. However, the 01.4 revision lacks G-Sync certification for Clevo Pascal GPUs unlike the 01.0, and neither revision supports G-Sync on Clevo Turing GPUs. I had it (ver1.4) on an Alienware 17 R4.
I really liked the resolution for a 17.3" display. Still wonder why there aren't more choices at this resolution, it looks very nice.
It was reasonably fast but still slower than most 120Hz and 144Hz TN screens today.
The colors were a bit washed out comparing to pretty much anything in the same league (60Hz IPS on a RP6-G, 120Hz Chi Mei on MSIs, 15.6" IPS 144Hz on an Asus GM501), but still reasonable. It was very bright which was a bit plus for me, made it possible to use outdoors and in bright conditions.
I had very little backlight bleed, but your mileage may vary.

Having said that, trying out the 120Hz 1080p 17.3" on a MSI still felt like an upgrade. I feel like the 1080p panels just have it better. Better colors and faster panels. The 1440p only has the resolution as a strongsuit

 

Thanks for the feedback. That is actually quite concerning. Just to be clear: even though this laptop is being sold with RTX GPUs and this G-Sync display through various resellers, G-Sync is not actually supported (i.e. does not work) in this setup?

Are you sure? Because G-Sync is quite important for me. As in, anything without (working) G-Sync is hardly an option.

 

The 1440p panels are not certified for G-Sync in Clevo RTX laptops yet, to the best of my knowledge.

 

OK I see... and not certified, does that mean it won't work?
Or could it actually be working fine and they're just waiting to receive official certification?

I'm gonna give it one last shot and see if I can find another 1440p laptop display that does have proper G-Sync support. I would REALLY love to have 1440p on this thing. Otherwise I'll probably settle for 1080p.
