I will be buying a laptop soon and I think I am going with the 3D version of the laptop I am thinking about getting because it is actually cheaper right now. Now I am not sure if I will ever actually use the 3D or not but I guess its not to have if I did use it. Problem is my choice between screens is a tough decision because my choice is 120Hz 3D matte screen vs 60Hz 90% NTSC 2D glossy. I have always used glossy screens and I feel the color is better with glossy screens. I will not be using my laptop for any professional picture editing or anything but what is your opinion on the screen types?

In your case I would take a 'let's take a look' approach until you can get a hands on with the 120Hz matte screen - I would much prefer the higher speed/lower latency of the 120Hz version vs. the over the top (and slower) glossy.

Can you compare both screens in person? Are there no restocking fees on returns? While the glossy gives a seemingly better/deeper 'wet' look to the image - that is not accurate (to real life) at all.

Like with stereo's - when we're 13 we wanted booming bass (above all else). As we get better educated ears, we want quality midrange that doesn't crumble with a little volume (it will sound better/louder than the 'booming bass' approach if done right).

Will be curious to see how this plays out for you (always looking for a new point of view).

    Good luck.

I appreciate your input. I wouldnt be able to see the specific laptop with the specific screen in person but I can go to microcenter and try to compare there.

you should ask if the 120hz 3d screen is capable of outputting 120hz 2d signal, thus in games you will see even smoother actions on 2D mode when compared to the 60hz screen

Where do you plan on using the laptop?

I usually use mine next to large double-windows that face the sun... Using a glossy laptop next to them will turn it into a mirror.

I meant where/how will you be using the laptop? Indoors? On the move? Outside? Next to windows? Darkroom?

Indoors, sometimes with light other times in the dark. I am using a glossy screen right now so I know what it would be like to have a glossy screen.

I have the same uncertainty , as I want to buy the same laptop Sager 9370 with single GTX780m , but I am realy puzzled on the screen part of things , the glossy is more sharp and have punchy colors , while the matte is more "washed out" but still interested in the 120hz (dont care about the 3D thing). can anyone help ?
ps:I have no place to compare these two :/

    Just to throw this out...

I had a Sager 9370 (w/780) for a few days and I was not impressed with the 120Hz LCD. I found that it looked washed out and the viewing angles were not that great. I compared it to the screen in my friend's Dell Insiron 17R Special Edition (also 120Hz, different panel) and my BenQ XL2404.
