    Hi,

I would like to upgrade my hard drive on my laptop and would prefer a ssd but i am concerned with the capacity, can only really afford the 120gb corsair. I was wondering whether is is worth it to just use windows on the hard drive and for files/movies/music etc just use an external hard drive as my laptop has usb 3.0 so speed would be ok. Or should i just get the WD scorpio black which is 7200rpm and has a large enough memory for me but at the end of the day its not an ssd :( Would really appreciate any advice as I'm not the most clued up up on this

    Thanks :)

What laptop do you have? Having to hook up an external hard drive to access movies/music/etc is annoying and not something I personally would recommend.

If 120GB is not enough for data you use everyday, then it seems your only choice is HDD.

Sometimes the Samsung 256GB drives can be found rather cheap .... have you looked at eBay? Also keep an eye on our Tech Bargains forum:

Reds, what size harddrive do you have now?

I'd go with the SSD because that is one of the few things that really makes a difference on a computer. However, forget the corsair 120 ssd. Get something that doesn't pair the Sandforce 2281 controller with 25nm nand memory.

So that means, get Crucial M4, Samsung 470/830, OCZ OCtane

Why not look at the Momentus XT? Once it figures your usage patterns, it gives near SSD performance. Plus you'd have a lot of space left over.

120GB is too less for internal drive....

Momentus XT 750GB will be best bet for this kind of situation....

    Hi guys

Thanks for all of the replys, i have ordered a sony vaio c series ( i like the colours) with an i7 and 8gb ram, i chose the standard 320gb 5400rpm as i would be replacing it anyway, i think i'll look at the momentus or look around for ssd's

As stated above, if 120gb is not enough, get a xt.

The Vaio C has a optical drive. If you don't need it, you could consider getting a 120gb ssd for your programs and files and then swap out the OD for a caddy with the 750gb hd.

That's the configuration I'm using for set up and it works great!
