No need to post multiple times.
How much space do you have on your external harddrive?
    And
How big is the file you want to copy to it?

For example if your external harddrive is formatted in FAT32, the biggest file you can copy is 4GB
If you try copying a 6Gb file it will fail

NTFS can copy any size file you want.

If your external is in FAT or FAT32, you should copy all of your files to your laptop/desktop and than format your external in NTFS. Than copy all of the files back to the drive.

You only need to do this if your external is formatted as FAT32

You can see the type in "My Computer" right click the harddrive and go to properties. It will state if it is in NTFS or FAT
