Looking for an 7mm high drive to speed up my netbook, which should i buy, the 128GB SSD is Sandisk or the HDD+SSD is Toshiba it has to be 7mm high or under.
The Sandisk 128gb SSD is around £60 and the Toshiba 500gb HDD+SSD is around £53
I dont really need 500gb of space, though 128gb is a bit small.
Any other options brands in 7mm at around the £60 mark.
thanks
John.

Toshiba makes HDD + SSD drives in 7mm form factor? Huh, didn't know they had something like that.
From experience though, if this is an ultrabook and you don't plan to store a lot of data on it, you'll feel the ssd much more than the hybrid. -

Yeah, i am just worried after i install the OS and a few programs i will only have around 60gb, thinking about it that should be enough, though video`s take up a lot of space.
I was wondering if there were any other brand in 7mm around the same price.
The Toshiba HDD+8GBSSD is in the link below.

I decided to get the Toshiba HDD+8GBSSD for the size, 128gb is too small
One other point Seagate now sells an 7mm HDD+8GBSSD they have dropped the Momentus name, but it uses MLC flash memory, when the Toshiba uses SLC which is faster and longer lasting.

I think what they're finding is that MLC lasts a lot longer than they initially thought, and SLC is expensive. My biggest concern with the drive would be the idle power of 1W and active speed of 2.9W. That could be a significant drain on the battery if those values are correct. I'm still surprised though that they're still only putting 8GB on there. With MLC 16GB wouldn't be that expensive and offer acceleration of more stuff and longer lasting.

No; they're not finding MLC is lasting longer than they expected. What they're doing is putting this class of devices even lower on the scale of performance and reliability.
What they're finding is that at this size, with 'real' SSD's available for (relatively) cheap at the same capacity, the consumer market still doesn't find the limits/compromises with their decisions a barrier for purchase. So, any cost/material savings is even more $$ in their pockets.
Take care. -

SLC is supposed to use less power than MLC though by how much i could not find out, is it 50% less, 10% less anybody know?
